Hia guys, I know eve-online doesn't compare to regular MMO classes, but I was still wondering what kind of ship would fit the light tank role better. ;)
Something with high dps that doesn't really have too much tank like a blademaster in DAOC. :p

Well, the thing in EvE is that you can customise your ships for your own needs, for example:
The Maller class cruiser can be fitted with a 1600mm armour plate to make it into an brick-wall of a ship(bait-maller), it, however, can also be fitted with a bunch of heat-sinks so that it become a glass-cannon which does a lot of damage for its size but very fragile (gank-maller).

What is it that you want to do in this light tank -role exactly? A **** poor tank with the ability to do face melting damage? It sounds like you just want a ship fitted for DPS to me, but I don't know my DAOC, so please enlighten me.

Edited by: Billy Cornpipe on 20/08/2010 18:16:11 Your ship's tank all depends on how you decide to fit it. Take the Gallente Thorax for example, an armor tanked ship. Armor tanking requires use of the low slots. You could put some nice medium guns on there with some damage mods in the lows for some nice DPS. But that doesn't leave room (PG + cpu) for massive armor plates.
alternatively, you could stack up some huge armor plates with resistance mods, but that doesn't leave room for much dps. You'll most likely have to switch to light guns and forgo multiple damage mods.
On the other hand, shield tanks utilize the mid slots. With this you can fit your weapons and your damage mods. However a heavy shield tank doesn't leave room for other mid slot mods such as, ewar, mwd, web, scram, etc.
what you should do, if you haven't already, is download EFT. From Battleclinic ONLY. With this tool you can play around with fits and see what fits within your powergrid and CPU restrictions. It also give you some numbers to base your dps and tanking ability on.

Your question is kind of complicated. In EVE people usually don't fly the biggest ships they can when PvPing but rather spilt up to do different tasks. Some fly fast small ships, some have utility ships, some fly huge ships that only the combined effort of a corporation can manufacture. Not everyone is equally strong and there's huge differences between ship's abilities.
If you're talking PvE I'd pick a ship that's fast and agile, preferably a speed tanking cruiser or battlecruiser. Because of their speed and other abilities they're often hard to hit and can sacrifice most of the repair and shield/armor tanking modules for speed and for instance a smaller signature radius.

You were going well until here. EFT should only be downloaded from the forum here (Link).
As for the question, you may want to look into the assault ships (assault frigates/heavy assault cruisers), which are tech 2 but more specialised for damage (for later on).

if you're really just looking for glass cannon type ships I'd say go gallente. The Thorax cruiser, Deimos heavy assault cruiser and Brutix battlecruiser can all easily mount fits that have facemelting amounts of dps at the cost of having very little tank. Having said that its possible to do it with any races ships, its just easier to do it with gallente than anyone else as its one of the design philosophies behind their ships.

Vagabond is pretty much what you have described (as well as most Minmatar ships).
