I have been scratching my head for some time now trying to understand why it is you need all the skills for a Hulk to also fly a covetor??
I mean a Cov is a mining barge and should not need L5 Mining Barge skill, that should be reserved for Exhumers only.
Does anyone agree? If so should CCP change this?

For a miner, the Covetor is a big, big improvement to the Retriever. I don't necessarily think CCP should change it, but it is a bit much to train. Maybe a good 3 weeks to a month to get there after a Retriever (approx). Hey, at least once you have a Covetor. . the Hulk is just around the corner (though a bit more expensive). Lastly, once you've been playing for a while, 3 weeks to a month will not be such a long time for a skill to train.

I hate mining, mining related topics and the such, but even I find this weird.
It takes lvl3 3 to unlock all tech 1 frigs, cruisers, and battle cruisers. You think the Covi sould be flown at lvl 4, cause it takes a day to get the tech 2 equivilant, and a month or more for every other class.

The covetor is unique in that it is the only "normal" T1 ship in game that needs a level V ship skill to fly it.

I should point out that a covetor is T1 insurable, giving it a HUGE advantage over the Hulk. Fly a covetor when it is too dangerous to fly a Hulk - such as during a war, Hulkageddon, or when operating in a new low security environment. ----------

Naw bud don't be a newb, everyone knows you should fly you Hulk during Hulkageddon. Fit it with a Civi Shield Boast to stop Ganks and upgrade to ORE Strips as soon as you have money. In fact liquidate all your assets so you have money.

Covetors are the miners of choice for wormhole operations, imo.

Plain and simple, the Covetor is cheaper to replace. That's why they're more often used in dangerous situations.
As for the 10min training difference between Covetor and Hulk, that's a common complaint. With things being the way they are now, most miners train...
Procurer Retriever Covetor Skiff Mackinaw Hulk
Procurer is a waste of a ship, when the Retriever really does take about 10min more to get into. Covetor is about 3 days from a Hulk. Skiff is only useful for Mercoxit, and Mack is only good for ice.
Now if they lowered the Covetor reqs a little, it might see a bit more use before everyone sits down in a Hulk and never looks back. |

The training for Coveter always striked me as a bit odd. Mainly because once you can fly it you might aswell train exhumers and get a hulk
In all seriousness if you cant afford to lose a hulk never put it in danger and you'll be able to pay for it in no time mining.
In all situations i'd use a hulk. Better Mining Yield. Better Tank. Better all around.
