Edited by: Researcher Anabiosis on 24/08/2010 01:39:02 hey all,
so I've been doing a lot more invention lately and my encryption / datacore skills are all at 4, and I'm wondering about the change I may or may not see if I invest around 20 days per skill to get them to 5? I'm very familiar with the invention calculator, which tells me I'll get around a 2% better success rate by getting skills to 5, but I'm uncertain if this is really a good trade-off for 100+ days of training.
Anyone got any insight or input?
thanks in advance Anabiosis

If you are doing ships, especially bigger ships like jump freighters and battleships it might be worth it. For modules, 4 is good enough and even most of my alts only have them at 3, and I run several hundred invention jobs per day.
There are much better ways to spend 100 days of training.

Taking the datacore skills from 4 to 5 will also give you extra daily RP's with R&D agents. Maybe taking one or two of the most-used datacore skills to 5 could be worth it if you factor that on top of slightly improved invention chances.

Raising the datacore skills from 4 to 5 will raise your RP income by about 30% (from about 80-ish RP per day to about 110-ish RP per day, for example). The extra income from datacore farming might be worth the training time :)

With a full int/mem remap and +5 implants it takes 17,25 days to get them to 5. I haven't done so myself but plan to do it in a few months. I don't expect a huge impact on my success rate, but if you just get that extra success on a BS invention once in a while it might be worth it.
Besides, if you've got a pure S&I (without mining/refining crap) char, you'll train all the science skills to 4 fairly quickly anyway.

same deal on my alt... i have all of them at 4..
only reason id train em to 5 is when id start doing BS/CS and mybe freighter invention.
for mods the change is so minimal... dont think its that worth it.
currently im happy with the skills i got and o get very good returns on mods (doing well above 100 inventions per day (not on 1 char only)) ---------------------------------- Fighting for something

I have a pure invention alt, so far she has maxed her minnie/amarr, other racial skills are 5-4 (both race & starship)
I did this because i tend to split my 11 jobs between 5 ships and 6 mod inventions every day.
The way i see it, if your going into invention the extra 2% makes a difference. 5 jobs a day = 150 jobs a month that 2% is 3 more sucesses which if we assume are 3 kronos *insert any other maurader or equivelent here* equates to about 240mill profit per month. (i always use datacores and get about 80mill profit after build costs etc)
Now you decide :)
Or look at it another way, if you were (or have) a pvp alt, would you train the ship skill to 5 to get that extra 5% ? I know i would, and i do :)
Every 1% is difference between good and very good results in my opinion

Yeah. The same reason I never train basic learning skills past 4, because that'd just take over a year before it would benefit me any. Who'd play EVE that long
