It probably sounds silly at first- but I'm going to put out this idea anyway
Intro
In current fleet warfare, you see many Battleships, Battlecruisers and Cruiser class ships. I have noticed, apart from the odd Dramiel, SB and the fleet's tackle inty, there are barely any frigate class ships flown. This is, quite frankly, because they are so easy to kill. If they cannot speed tank or cloak, they are nearly useless. I think this is why so few assault ships are flown.
Another reason for frigate's under usage, is because Anything > Frigates. Cruisers kill frigates with ease. BCs kill frigates with ease. Even Battleships with their drones kill Frigates with ease.
So I suggest to bring in Frigate-Class Logistics.
What would the Frigate Logistics be like?
They would be extremely similar to their cruiser-sized equivalents, with bonuses to range of RR's, and the ability to use multiple RR's of the size above (Current Logi's use large, so a frig-sized Logi would use medium sized reps)
They would rely much more on their speed and maneuverability to keep themselves alive.
So How would a Frig-Sized Logi Ship help?
It would make Groups of frigates powerful again. Just a few with 1 of these ships with them could take out a battleship with ease, without dying one by one to it's drones, while still vulnerable to Cruisers and BCs. You would actually see more frigate roams (Best roams ). I can imagine a small group of frigates being able to take on a group of Battleships equal, if not bigger than them. The point is, It would give us;
Battleships > Battlecruisers > Cruisers > Destroyers > Frigates > Battleships
You would need small ships to protect the big ships from the tiny ships.
So here are what I can believe are the pros and cons of introducing this new class of ship:
Pros
1) It means that frigates can be much more dangerous in groups than before.
2) Therefore more frigs are flown (Like Assault ships)
3) Makes battleships more vulnerable to frigates.
4) More frig roams- as the Frig Logis can actually keep up with the frigates.
5) They would still be useful in normal fleet battles, as they would have much faster locking speed than their cruiser equivalents, so they could concentrate on keeping the small ships alive, while the normal Logistics concentrated on the battleships and co.
5) It'll Be fun!
*Starts clutching straws*
7) Makes lowsec safer... (yes, safer) As battleships, the staple diet of all lowsec gatecamps, would be vulnerable to frigates without support, but the support would be vulnerable to the gate guns.
8) A new T2 Frig that made Assault ships/Other frigs more useful would be awesome.
Cons
1) For certain ships, being RR'd would make them practically invincible (Dramiel with 3 Medium Shield RR's) although the Frigate Logi is vulnerable itself.
2) Not very useful for repping larger ships.
Any suggestions are more than welcome, but please remember, this is just a ship class concept, if you hate it, please just post it in a way that I can pull it right into into the 'Cons section'.
Cheers.
