Okay, after a bit of trouble with the install, I finally got Eve starting. Now, though, I can't get past the EULA - it won't load the text. I've tried these things, all of which I dug up from other threads...
Copying the font folder from my Vista machine Running the winetricks corefonts Running winetricks Gecko Renaming the arial.ttf to Arial.TTF Running EVE in a virtual window
I'm really stuck and this is really frustrating, what else can I do?

Odd. That's the easy step for most. :/

the eula is displayed in arial.ttf located in c:\windows\Fonts\arial.ttf which translates to /home/username/.wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts/arial.ttf
replace "/home/username/.wine" with the correct wineprefix if needed

I'm having the same problems with my Eee 901 running EeeBuntu 4.1 beta... Just annoys me.. On my main comp running Gentoo I've not had this problem, there I got EVE working in the blink of an eye...
I've done the following: Installed wine (v1.2) copied the arial.ttf to the ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts/ (Copied arial.ttf both from the corefonts package and from my main computer!) winetricks gecko corefonts
And I've been googling this issue quite some aswell.. still no luck. So any advice on what to do now would be appreciated.

I guess that would kind of bomb out at the same place. However, the EULA font issue still brings up the splash and login screens but has a blank popup window that would normally display the EULA text. And it waits for the user to scroll to the bottom of said text.
I'm guessing you are splash'n'crash and not getting to the EULA popup at all, correct?

I'm getting the game to start correctly and giving me the EULA pop-up box.. but no text in it.

I'm impressed. Never would have thought a netbook had the GPU for the job.
At any rate, the Intel OpenGL driver doesn't have the needed support even on a laptop/desktop setup. I think this is true for Intel's Windoze OpenGL driver also. You need to pester Intel.

Well... The game runs on it.. tho slowly... But for now there seems to be no problem with the OpenGL driver, the problem lies in the Font/Text not showing issue with the EULA.

Considering this is under the Linux part of the forums I'd say it runs under Linux. And yes I've had eve running on my Eee with Wintendo on it aswell, and on the Eee with another distro on it for quite some time ago. Tho back then I couldn't see the text as other than white blobs.. I could log on and reading things was waaay to difficult with white blobs. Right now the setup is as follows: Asus Eee 901 with an updated EeeBuntu 4.1beta.. (This seems to be the only way to get 'AuroraOS' onto the Eee for now. Wine has been installed, corefonts was installed from scratch. Eve has been installed. Copied arial.ttf from the corefonts package to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts/ = Still no text in the EULA. executed 'winetricks corefonts' and still no text in the EULA. Copied the arial.ttf from my main computer (runs EVE under Gentoo) and this didn't help either.
So right now I'm just quite clueless to what to do.

Getting up to speed ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asus_Eee_PC#Specifications tells me the Eee PC 901 has an Intel GMA950 GPU.
And http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMA950#GMA_950 has this little gem - "The GMA 950 shares the same architectural weakness as the GMA 900: no hardware geometry processing. Neither basic hardware transform and lighting, nor more advanced vertex shaders are handled in the GMA hardware."
So that explains why it's painfully slow.
I still am surprised that Eve works at all. I was under the impression that Intel's OpenGL driver didn't support shaders and the likes.
Have you installed/compiled anything particular to get this functionality?

I've not compiled anything yet. What I've done is the following: Installed EB 4.1beta, updated through the update system. Installed wine via synaptics package manager. (Thinking of compiling the source instead just for the sake of it.) Copied the arial.ttf (no result in the Eula text.) installed winetricks, ran winetricks to get gecko & corefonts.
And that's about it. What's the current end result? EVE Launches, I get the login screen and the EULA window pops up. There's no text in it so I can't scroll down even a pixel, hence I can't accept the EULA and logon to the game.

Well, believe it or not I've got a 901 sitting around collecting dust and slowly ruining it's battery ever since the 4GB drive clogged up with too much data. I'd always meant to install Ubuntu on it at some stage ... so I spent some time today doing just that. Boy, updates take forever with the SSD! :( Maybe I should have formatted to ext2 instead.
So, I've got similar setup to you now. And yep, the invisible EULA gets in the way. :( What I did next was copy the settings directory from my desktop box on to the 901. That got me past the EULA nicely but then the resolution problems began.
I couldn't get Eve to be happy with a resolution less than the current in-game setting. And the smallest setting I could set was 1024x768. This was manageable though. I could view most of the game and the login screen is nice enough to auto-select the password entry so I didn't need to click on anything to login. :)
At pilot selection things were looking decidedly bleak. All three portraits were missing most of their parts and characteristics - just a bare expressionless face. I then click on one, loading starts and moments later the game quits to desktop.
So, I still think the Intel driver is not up to par. Or at least the default driver with Ubuntu.

I believe this is the relevant driver info:
OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 945GME GEM 20091221 2009Q4 x86/MMX/SSE2 OpenGL version string: 1.4 Mesa 7.7.1 which when compared with my desktop PC:
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 8800 GT/PCI/SSE2/3DNOW! OpenGL version string: 3.2.0 NVIDIA 195.36.24 OpenGL shading language version string: 1.50 NVIDIA via Cg compiler it does look like the 901's driver is not actually from Intel.
6:12AM here, I'm knackered :)

Now this helped me alot, now I got rid of the EULA, thanks for that. As for not getting the correct resolution you can start eve like this: wine explorer /desktop=0,1024x600 "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe"
