First I'm aware you can't currently log on to Sisi however I'm reporting an issue with the SisiLauncher that has been happening to me for a week or two.
Bascially the Fix Singularity Client button (or the click to play if you choose a new directory and let it make a new copy) seems to hang on updating the client. It always seem to just hang at the same point. The most recent messages are as follows (not sure if the 'Patching ...' lines are the same however the final line is alwys the same:
...lots of other Patching lines.... Patching "script\compiled.code" Patching known files: 100.0% 5.3GB/5.3GB, 9.3MB/s 02m29s repair url: http://content.eveonline.com/test/RepairData_181725.dat client directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\Sisi2
I'm running Vista 64 bit

Update on my post above - I'd left the SisiLauncher running since before I made that post, it has just actually moved passed the client directory line, it is now checksumming client (and actually appears to be doing something.
There needs to be _some_ indication that something is happening (oh and taking hours is also not really practical, it was only because I'd forgotten to close it that it was left running).

i want to extend my feedback a few posts before (on page 5 or so). since i went through all that testing stuff with updating yesterday and because sisi was open for connections today, i first tried the totally manual made sisi copy and it worked, all was fine.
i then started sisi launcher on the build 181725 i had left from yesterdays test, clicked play eve and it started to update right away (patch url: http://content.eveonline.com/test/PatchData_185489.dat) to the current sisi version (like i expected it to do yesterday).
so sisilauncher in fact seems to do very well and does what it is supposed to do and it was the update probably hold back because of the issues you were facing.
but this brings me back to my initial resumee, you have to tell people, and please not in the forums, but in the client via the motd and/or sisilauncher what is going on. it has not to be a long story, you may link the forum page with a long version (if exists) in the server motd for that, but additionally a short info in the server-motd too, just like you do when facing problems on tq - like right now we have on tq "We discovered a critical issue during the final stages of deployment. We are currently working to resolve the issue and expect Tranquility to return to service at 18:00 UTC". this kind of info on sisi and maybe within the sisilauncher would be just great.

Wishful thinking:
Information that would make sense on launcher main screen:
Current installed client build/branch Current server build May be server MOTD
Else it's very possible in some cases to destroy installed client, instead of repair it, with launcher. -- Thanks CCP for cu |

Downloaded tool and had a few issues, running on Vista:
- Constantly asks for downloading the new version, even if it's already at the last version (1.07 as we speak) - After correctly downloading and patching, actually launching the client gave the following error: "there are extra files in your eve client installation", referring to python25.dll. Rebooting the machine, re-checking with the tool twice and rebooting again didn't correct it, only manually deleteing the file did.
Other than that, good work!

Sisilauncher does not do anything to me.
I start it, it asks if i want to download a newer version, clicked Yes, downloads sth, and then quits when the dl is finished, and nothing happens.
It doesn't even ask me about the folder where my TQ/Sisi client exists.
XP SP3. Never had issues with my client(s).
Is this issue linked to the status of the (test)server?

1)I tried to install yesterday using the Sisi launcher tool. It did the auto update to the latest version, started copying the files but in the end (few files were missing, like eve.exe)it got into an infinite loop doing nothing. Not even canceling, or "end process", could stop it so i had to restart windows. (tried it 3 times)
2)copied the eve folder and tried to patch through the autoupdate. I don't get prompted eventhough mine is an incompatible version (tried it 2 times)
3) tried to download the TQ to Sisi patch...the link is not working (tried it many many times since clicking once is easy ;P)
I'm using Win 7 64 bit and i'm open to suggestions of any kind

I'm getting the infiniloop also, on 2 machines, both running winxp. The tool starts copying the eve folder but right before finishing it gets stuck in a loop (opening and closing the "copy window"). Killing the process and copying the executables manually does it for me. Then i can run the tool again and the patching works fine. Now if someone would reactivate my sisi account...

Vista here.
Program copies my Tranq folder, then the window begins to loop and blink and nothing happens. Maybe you guys should ask the CSM's to download these kinds of things things and actually test them before they are released.
Or:
Buy a few random computers with diff operating systems, and see if it actually works as intended?

Edited by: Ric Adburr on 03/10/2010 20:43:54 Edited by: Ric Adburr on 03/10/2010 20:43:04 Ok so my EVE client is installed at Y:\Program Files\CCP\EVE and I told this tool to copy to Y:\Program Files\CCP\Singularity. It makes a copy of everything in the new folder, except there are no copies of the EVE.exe, eve.exe (safe mode), uninstall.exe, logserver.exe, or repair.exe files.
After the copying process is complete and I click the play button on the tool it just tried to start the copying all over again.
Did I do something wrong?

Same here.
I let it go for about 30 mins or so and noticed there was no progress.. At which point I noticed the cancel button does not work either. You have to end task from the task manager.

Any chance you could actually show us the log? It should dump to a text file in the same directory as the launcher. That would help us more than not having the log

ok, i think i found a workaround for the latest errors people have been having. I say "i think because i can't actually be sure that this will work for everyone. I have Win 7 64-bit.
1)Before running the sisilauncher.exe you manually copy your main eve folder into another folder (example c:\program files(x86)\ccp\singularity). 2)run the sisilauncher.exe and it will auto-update 3)now, instead of clicking "play eve on singularity" you will have to manually browse to the folder you just created (bottom left option) 4)after you selected the folder you click the "fix singularity client" option. 5)after the repair is done exit the sisilauncher and go into the folder you created and make a shortcut for eve.exe (send it to desktop or wherever) 6)add the usual /server:Singularity to the command line of the shortcut aaaand you're done 7)run EVE using the shortcut you just created
it took some time and it did have to download some files for the repair process (about 450 MB for me) but in the end it worked and the resulting Test Client is up to date.
Hope this works for all

So idk whats wrong with that this time, when it worked fine before. this is occuring on my Desktop. I havent tried on my laptop yet, I'll edit in the results of that.

Sadly i have no repair.log and the SisiLauncher window for repairing the singularity client closes too fast.(can't even copy the text inside) I think i just need the correct eve.exe. Somehow your launcher does not seem to update that file for some weird reason. (And yes, i copied the files from my tranquility installation and then started the sisilauncher)
PS: Your method that the launcher uses is not good for my firewall, it asks me everytime if it should allow connection because it seems to extract itself into a random temporary folder. (Using Kaspersky, and it can't remember the setting for a program (to allow/disallow connection) if the path changes.) This is just a small problem, but its kinda annoying if your firewall asks you everytime although you tell it to remember the setting.

Alright, i tried it again. Copied folder from main installation. Started SisiLauncher.exe. That Launcher tried to update, but just created a file. I renamed the extension to ".exe" and replaced the original launcher to be able to use the new version. (Else it would allways try to update and does nothing after that). Then i tried to fix it to Singularity. I get this output: http://eve.pastebin.com/raw.php?i=wSMzJc4T If i try to start eve i just get an error about eve.exe having a wrong crc sum. The log i mentioned above says something about not beeing able to patch that file. Sadly there is no "Restoring: eve.exe" entry. So my guess is ... it just does not fix the eve.exe.

Edited by: Blue Harrier on 05/10/2010 11:44:59 Just tried to set up a new SiSi client ready for the test tomorrow and found the following problem;
The Launcher copied my TQ folder to the new SiSi location and then reverted back to the browse for my TQ folder with an error message. It seemed to just go round in a circle.
Comparing the file contents of my old TQ folder to the new SiSi folder revealed the problem; the Launcher had failed to copy any of the exe files. Doh!
You might like to check the file copy options in your new version and change if required.
Edit: This was version 1.09 btw.

Is there an ETA for when you're rolling this tool out for Tranquility? Especially with all this optional patch business running riot. I have two clients and I think ones updated with one patch and the other is updated with the other, or neither - which creates obvious headache~ It'd be nice to have this tool available for tranquility as it IS really neat.

Hey this thing is pretty sweet.
Some ideas to make it stupid proof.
Since most of us are on Windows, we're used to wizards. So.
1. "Welcome to SISI Launcher.. copyright blah...etc.."
[NEXT]
(checks latest version...[OK] updates... proceeds )
2. Please select the option below that suites you best: a) New install of SISI b) Existing SISI user. [NEXT]
3a. Select the directory of EVE Online.
(this will not modify etc..)
[BACK] [NEXT *to 3b*]
3b. Select the directory where SISI is/will be installed
[BACK][NEXT]
4. Copying/Verifying Files
[BACK][NEXT]
5. Downloading necessary files.
[NEXT]
6. Finished!
[] cretate deskop shortcut to SISI? [] delete cached files etc.. [] install bladdy blah toolbar JUST KIDDING GOD DON'T!
[OK]
A PERSONAL REQUEST:
PLEASE!!! Include multiple colored / designed icon files in the eve.exe file!!!
Why on earth would they clog a nice and clean UI with such a messy wizard ? Seriously, the current UI is not perfect, but still far much better than a wizard doing only one thing.
I still think this tool should aim to be the perfect user-testing platform : - Ability to check if Sisi client is there & up-to-date, install/update it otherwise. - Ability to launch logserver before launching client, link to EVElopedia to explain what is logserver, just in case. - Ability to send logs directly to CCP, maybe with comments to include user experience point of view (basically, a form with pilot name, date & time of the test, remarks and stuff).
And voila. You have the tool every people willing to help CCP with testing stuff should use, and there's no need for a single-task oriented wizard.

Its just the awesome ingame browser. (next time google yourself)
Btw: Can anybody with a working test-client upload the eve.exe somewhere? The SisiLauncher really does not update it for me. Can't believe i'm the only one with that problem. I already tried to uninstall the optional patches on the main-client,copied the files and runned the SisiLauncher, but had no luck.

Edited by: Tergiminius on 06/10/2010 11:44:17 Get same problem as CrazyT, run the sisi-client and click to play, asks me for my tranquility folder so select it. It keeps on asking me no matter how many times I locate it till I give up. If I click cancel it does all the check-sum stuff then justs exists.
If I click cancel all the way through it tells me I've got no eve.exe file. I tried copying the one over from the Tranq folder but that pops up with an error than the client might be broken and in need of repair.
It looks like I also need a way to get this eve.exe.
Forgot to add, it's windows 7 64 bit version. |
