It's so wee like. Were all crammed in together. I guess adding half a million systems would sort things out a bit. It is still a space sim isn't it?

Is there a way of checking? Without counting on my fingers that is.
A cursory glance at the "systems I've visited" map suggests I've been to about half of the known systems, mostly on the eastern side.
That said, I'm not all that bothered with new space though I wouldn't complain if some were added.

Well, actually, EVE has grown since I started to play. First, they've opened Drone Regions (Cobalt Edge, Oasa, Perrigen Falls...) and then added 2,000+ systems in wormhole space.Anyway, take a look at the map sometimes. You can see that there are many 0.0 systems that are completely empty, so I wouldn't agree that we are "crammed in together".

I'm sure black rise was between them.. That even had a few new highsec systems..

Edited by: Jennifer Fenring on 03/09/2010 07:14:37 I also do miss some space "wilderness".
When I look at the map and see that most systems are part of some alliance or other EVE looks more like a suburb with 50k inhabitants than "endless space" that's supposed to be 99.99% empty. It looks like space but it doesn't really feel like space.

Only way to enforce wilderness is making regions like Outer Ring. Lack of stations, poor sec and unclaimable. Want a few regions like that on the edge or something?

Eve isn't really space, planets are'nt really there, pretty background is just wallpaper, and there is no where to get lost in. Wilderness isn't made by stamping a name on it, that's what enforcement does and it kills everything it comes into contact with. (Like Concord) The only way to have 'real' space and therefore 'feel' like space is to add .... space.

Ever flown 35 jumps from where you are based to a new staging area / mission system / etc? You have the choice of staring at the screen for an hour straight while clicking a button once a minute, or not playing EVE at all for two hours while the autopilot takes you there.
Wanna make that 488 jumps instead? Over 24 hours straight autopilot? Sounds like fun? Because that's what you're suggesting.
P.S.: You can start making EVE feel less cramped by putting your post in the appropriate forum (Features and Ideas Discussion) instead of dumping it in general discussion without spending a moment's thought.

Yes, I think that is what he's suggesting, and no, it doesn't sound like fun. Which is the entire point.
When EVE becomes so "big" again that; people wont just move all their assets across the map, for a slightly better agent, alliances don't bat an eye at moving cap fleets to the other side of the map and people won't ferry freighters from one end of an Empire to anoother, for a small lousy profit...
... that's when EVE is "big" enough again. When distance and regional politics and trade matter again.

they are all variations of the same. Space seems so small becasue CCP trys to cluster us around focal points, eg gates and stations and travel is very simple and fast which makes the vast expanses of space seem small and crowded. |

Of course there's more to that. IRL millions of people inhabit a single planet and have a lot to do there. In EVE it's a bit different. It's also the limited options you have within a given system that makes space seem smaller; if not quality then quantity.
And I wouldn't mind far away systems that may take an hour to get to. It may be nice to at least have an option to spend some time far away from empire and the surrounding alliance territory and to make a settlement in space "wilderness". A bit like a WH but without a changing entrance that may lead to densely populated space.

Edited by: Alara IonStorm on 03/09/2010 09:46:15 Personally if EVE was to get bigger, IE adding more Hi, Lo and Null, I would want to see new travel methods.
Auto is boring so is manual warping to sytems. New Jump gates that connect you half way accross the Galaxy would be interesting. If the found ways to make sure they could not be WTFBBQPWN'D camped in dangerous space. Unless you owned the space, and even then prepare to defend it.
A super jump network connecting to 10-15 regions would be pretty win. Then again it could break the game, what do know?

Looking at the map with the players in system filter, probably half the systems in EVE are empty. Its only certain high sec systems which are rammed.

The point of EVE is to be a SF Sim. The way around problems is with more technology. Create WH links to random places throughout these new vast areas, getting rid of the need to spend 24H travelling on autopilot to get there. The way to get there is by WH, and your entry point is random.
Realistically, CCP have to fix lag first before adding new systems. |

So it might be bigger than you think! Do you want to try it?

Actually it would make the EVE universe alot smaller, even if it quadruppled in size, because you would be only a few jumps away from your destination ( 1 big jump and a couple of small jumps ... ).

Yes Eve's map is quite big. But in any given system your options are, warp to station, warp to gate ect and your their in a few seconds. Most players will group here becasue this is where the space is developed. The only other places players are allowed to delvelop themselves are at moons and we are restricted to one POS per moon! All that space inbettween these warpto points is dead space imo becasue all we can do is make a BM to warp their to use as a safe spot or to anchor a can. If players were allowed to spread out from these focal points space would not seem so crowded without the need to add more systems. |

If they really wanted to make the universe bigger, move the moon goo moons around randomly every 60 days or so.
You'd REALLY see stuff spread out then.

Sort of like before the 'Warp to Zero' patch? Yeah.... those were the days... you know, the days when you could actually catch people in the 15km gap between what they warped to and actually getting to it. Mmmmm... carebear tears.

Gladly, because so many people, like yourself apparently, wouldn't.
Would also seriously screw with pirates if their fish in a barrel were suddenly released to the sea.
Size of the universe should be at least doubled, maybe quadrupled.

Thats not CCPs falt. Its the falt of players not having the balls or willpower to try something new/risky.

Check the Q1 economics report from a few month ago. Loads of players have taken up residence in wormholes using POSes, and some just wander from WH system to WH system, occasionally dropping of loot and restocking when they find a way out to K-Space.
Lots of people are using WHs all the time, the ones that aren't are the usual risk averse mission runners and TBH i really don't understand their mentality so can't really figure out a way of changing that.
