Then just stop mining..and jump in the water.PvP in cheap ships..so what if you die.Eve isnt an easy game to get into..I agree. But if you like it,Id say try something else.Read up on it..check out youtube..find something you like and set a goal.It wont come fast but when you get there you'll be glad you did.Even then..youll be worth something to a corp and another chapter of fun starts.
And find some people you like to hang out with..they will show you a few options.

No one here 'really' wants you to go, we're just testing your troll armor.
Go join someone like the Test Alliance.
Not a troll, they seem to have 16 day players pvp'ing in 0.0 (seriously, its hilarious).
They *have* to be having a laugh, no way they are bored.
Try it, its quite a buzz.
Get a sugar daddy first, you are going to lose a lot of ships starting out. Or, just 'loot' their wrecks to start off and get established.
Either way, leave the mining to the professionals, 'HUMANS' should be 'pew pewing'.

Edited by: DuKackBoon on 04/09/2010 18:31:59 Physically, a Wormhole is a Space-Time 'tunnel' that connects two points in space, and in case of the traversable Wormholes we have in EVE, instantly transfer information, energy and matter from point A to point B.
In EVE, it's a jumpgate that leads into distant solar systems, either normal space or wormhole space.
Oh yeah, if you do it right, they are ISK-printing machines that just need you to push the "Print" button.

Ah, this actually happened to me.
On my second or third day in EVE, after running through a bunch of the tutorials, I decided to take my newbie ship with its probe launcher outside of the academy system and see what I can find.
Naturally, with hi-sec probed to the extent it is, the first signature I found was a wormhole. I mentioned this on Rookie chat and some helpful soul said to bookmark both sides of the wormhole so I don't get trapped. I follow that advice and go in. Then, seeing something called a 'Hangar' of some sort on scans, I warp to it in my newb ship.
The scary, ominous Sleepers awakening message pops up, I see a bunch of red crosses on my overview, and I hightail it out. I ran all the way back to the academy, screaming like a little girl.
That was a rush.
A few months later, I've gone through two corps trying various hi-sec activities ranging from radar-site farming to mission-running, anomaly-busting, and even mining (ugh). Now I'm back in wormholes, shooting and salvaging Sleepers for profit. :D But yes, having 16 days of experience is not enough for solo wormhole activities. Though, you could act as a general prober, watchdog, and go-getter for a group delving into w-space.
In short, join a good corporation. Fun things will follow.

I'm surprised that no-one has really mentioned it before but look up Eve Uni they are brilliant if you want a corp that will help you learn the game, offer you a friendly and helpful instant community of people who are not only new to the game like yourself but also some very experienced players as well.
Don't give up just yet. I mined for the first 6 months of my Eve career but I did also do T1 frigate suicide PvP ops. I'm not actually sure we ever killed anything...but we had a lot of fun running away in our pods!
Also as a newer player I would recommend posting in the Eve New Citizens Q&A forum any questions you have and not General Discussion and it is a bit more new player friendly and less people will think you are trying to troll them.

I have summarized the most important things mentioned so far. A good corp is usually the key to enjoying Eve. Mining, while boring as hell, is much funnier when you have someone to laugh with over TS/Vent/Eve voice. Additionally, new players can be very useful to most corps, even in PvP. While some people, like Chribba, do very well without a corp, Eve is a social game. You play with, and against other players.
When you say there isn't much you can do, have you asked yourself what you want to do?

Exactry join "Helpmymission" ingame chat channel this a dedicated mission running channel with a group of people who will help you find you feet and make the game while you are skilling up alot more fun. If you ask nicely you may even be invited to a lvl4 mission and then you'll think holy @#$% and it just maybe trigger for you to keep playing.

Well I understand where you come from. When I started, I hadn't got a clue of all things that I could do. The tutorials are a necessary start but also limited and frankly, without a lot of skills and knowledge about skills and how to decently fit a ship L1 missions can be quite tough. Next to that neither mining nor missions get you a lot of rewards when you're low on skills and mining is quite a boring thing to do, at least if thatŠs all there was to the game I wouldnŠt play either.
Joining a corporation may get you up to speed. Although when I joined a corp it was wardecced and I was killed and podded in a Bantam - when I was just a week into the game - it was no fun at all. But most corps give you some good advice and ships and skillbooks - what may be a lot of money for you is nothing for a player that's already been playing for a few months. You'll be surprised how easy it is to earn money once you're past a certain point. Being able to really fit and fly a ship very well and making full use of it and thoroughly understanding it takes a lot more time though.
You may also opt to train some skills for a month or so and donŠt do a lot and read the forums so you have a better general idea how things work (and believe me, the game is very complex) or play another game until youŠre a bit stronger. Personally I must say that reading forums and wikis taught me more about the game than the members of the corporations I've been in.

Was going to launch off on one about how much fun EVE is if you play it not simply let it play you.
But then I noticed this post on podlogs.com that kinda illustrates it all nicely.
A typical hour or so in EVE having fun and sampling the infinite possibilities. Never the same twice! That's why EVE is the best and will eventually be the longest running MMO.

This is almost like a clever devil's advocate post. And it's functioning well if the intention was to get players to give advice on how to enjoy eve or to talk about what they like without *shock* *horror* being constructive and getting slammed
I think the 'betterfly effect' and 'causality' videos sum up what happened to this character well. His progress was dependant on intitial conditions which had the effect of causing him to be bored.
I certainly haven't found it easy to find people in game who I can easy identify with having began from day one as a trader using my Kestrel not for shooting but for smuggling spirits.
Only after years of leaving and returning to eve have I finally found a group that I can work with.
Sometimes it isn't so easy just to answer flipantly 'join a player corp' when no one wants a bantam nibbler or a novice tackler who has barely had time to Train his tackle skills.
I've tried to join 0.0 groups by crusing out into some 0.0 in a shuttle and trying to talk to players why point blank REFUSE to talk and go nuts to hunt down a worthless shuttle and kill it.
So I applaud this post becuase of the responses it has generated from those who had the intellect to not simply make accusations and hurl insults.

As someone else said, why in the hell are you mining? I've been playing eve for 2-3 years and I still haven't mined more than some odd missions required. STOP MINING!!!
Go into a good corporation and PLAY the game. Ps. you don't need skills to play or have fun, you only need skills to fly the big boats that are no fun anyways!

Have you actually been to the WoW forums? The only discussion about other games there is "This game will kill WoW" or "It's another stupid game that won't have any effect on WoW". And nowadays the only human interaction when playing the game boils down to "GS?" and the consequent "Lol you don't have over 6000" when doing heroics :/
You obviously have no idea neither about eve nor about wow.

EVE's full of interesting people. Most of whom are accomodating to new players. What most people won't do, especially in 0.0 is wipe your ass and pat you on the head if you soil yourself.
The difference at least in my experience is who turns up for basic orientation, who pays attention, who learns something etc. Most don't or join fail corps and fail to move on and instead linger around being bored and confused until they rage quit.
I agree its sometimes not easy to find the right crowd but there's enough crowds to make it a foregone conclusion as long as you keep trying. And keep learning. And keep trying. And keep learning ..

If you're looking for ideas of something to do, check out You First Days In Space and the subsequent page full of guides.
After you've had a quick read of that, check out the Career Agents guide. Pay attention to the type of work you're doing in those career agent tutorials, and think about which career interests you the most.
Talk to the folks in your rookie corp to find suggestions of things to do or see if anyone is recruiting players like you. Alternately check the (high traffic) recruitment forums.
And remember that EVE is a sandbox universe. The game is what you make it, there are no quest givers to direct you on to the next spoon-fed adventure. There are just people, some of whom are looking for friends to build great empires with, just as others are only interested in causing you grief.

28 days left with nothing left to lose.
Spend all of two of those days training Propulsion Jamming to II or III; Racial (go with Minmatar if you can so you can fly a Rifter) Frigate III or IV; some minimal gunnery skills; Hull Upgrades to I, Mechanic, Electronics and Engineering to III and whatever the prereqs are for 1MN Microwarpdrive. That's maybe two days training at double speed.
Now jump right into the deep end and put in with a corporation in a 0.0 alliance that sounds like a lot that you'd get along with. Every gang loves a fast tackler and any corporation worth its salt gives away free skillbooks as well as frigates and cruisers for you to get blown up with. You'll make e-friends, be credit to team, kill random people and keep their stuff, trash and belittle those same victims in local chat, have money literally showered upon you by wealthy corpmates, learn the game mechanics and PROTIPS from experienced players and most of all you'll get nice steady drip of adrenaline that you won't get in ... zzzZZZzzzZZZZzzzz ... empire.
Shooting people is where it's at. It's a pvp-centric game. Do THAT.
You really have nothing to lose if you plan on unsubscribing.
Barring that, contract your stuff to Aloe Cloveris. I'll put it to good use feeding orphans or something.

what he said. Sounds too me your too dam lazy to do research. Their are help channels for people like your self. Even local chat someone would help. If you done what he said above you would of learned something.
I will say this the tutorial for EVE is good enough with anyone has a brain cell to learn how to play the game. My Wife tried it once before they revamped it and it was too much. Once they done it she understood what to do in EVE and how to play. Though she likes the content of the game and love how the game is she fell in love with WoW. She just like simple fun I guess
So I think your just too dumb and lazy or your trolling!

Without wailing on the op's pecs any more than absolutely neccessary; it seems to be a common observation made about those 'not liking' EVE or successfully trolling those who do. I guess its because a lot of gamers expect linear progression with little to no human input required to achieve the 'end game' where you win, repeatedly, forever, with all your 'friends'. Tea bagging may also occur but the norm is probably just chronic obesity and welfare.
Gross generalization: It never stops making my arse twitch.

Go pirating .. explore wormholes ... that's for sure the advices which a 16 day old payer needs, who is about to find out the basic game features .
@OP: here is how you can have fun instantly. You need 300-400k isk for that, I guess you made so much with mining already. Buy yourself a frigate, I'd recommend a Kestrel, which is a solid ship and fits well for that task. Put 4x Missile Launcher I on it and buy a few hundred bloodclaw light missiles. Additionally you can put a small shield booster or shield extender in the medium slots and "power diagnostic systems" or "ballistic control system" in the low slots. Travel a bit around, until you find a system that has a security status of 0.8 or 0.7. Right-klick in space and travel to the asteroid belts, check them one by one. Kill some rats that fly around there, sell the loot, that's where the fun starts. With the isk you can upgrade your modules. When you get stronger, you can continue with systems that have a security of 0.6 or 0.5. This way you learn the basic stuff about ships, weapons, tanking, damage upgrades, rats etc. After that you'll probably start with missions, but getting in a frigate and starting to patrol asteroid belts can get you instant fun and enough isk for skills and such from day 1. __________________________ http://eveboard.com/pilot/iudex |
