Greetings my Fellow Capsuleers,
I'm doing a re-make of the great video that started me interested in Eve. I'm sure some of you remember it as well. Its been a long time since I've started waiting for a remake, so as others have suggested in this old thread, I'm embarking on an effort to revive Eve Never Fades with the much deserved latest HD post-Trinity graphics
Sneak preview in low res for now, to give a flavour of how far and where I'm heading. The vid is taking me a while because I'm a complete noob at After Effects/video editing. I'm figuring things out as I go along, so please be patient. The vid will be completed soon(TM).
I'm going to splice in many pvp shots that I'll scavenge for on the web. But I realised that this is best done as a community project, so I need YOUR help to send me your videos. I'm in particular need of the following footage:
Swing by views of deadspace complexes, anomalies, final kill mission locations, anything nice!! (ala original vid 1:00) Rear shot of 3 scorpions, sensor boosters on, firing stuff (ala original vid 2:12) First-person in-warp view with own ship hidden (ala original vid 3:06) PvP shots with NOS/webifier/weapons firing (ala original vid 3:35) Gallente freighter leaving planet (ala original vid 4:27) Raven firing torps/cruises (ala original vid 4:40)
I'm working on the composite shots that introduce all the 4 Empires. Still learning about masks and stuff in After Effects.
The vids will need to be in HD (ie 1280 X 720) If anyone has the vids, please post on youtube and send me a link here, or put it in eve files and send the link. I reserve the right to select the most suitable videos for this project. Credits will be given at the end of the completed vid :D
Any comments/help/suggestions/advice are very much welcome!
Thank you for your kind attention.

Woot!
About time someone 'upgraded' this classic.
Calling ZOND3 to the forums - your input is required!
(my two cents)
The original music track has had many, many remixes - some of them are very good, I would strongly recommend sourcing those, just to give your update a slightly different flavour to it.
ZOND3 edited by changing the scene/frame/image on the downbeat in one, two and three bars during the main chorus - I'd recommend sticking to this as it gives the video great pace. The sound FX can be found in the 'RES' folder for EVE, you will have to use a OGG to WAV/MP3 convertor prior to import.
Since the original video, some aspects of EVE have been added, such as planetary interaction - maybe these could get an inclusion?
Any other help I can provide, I will look into - and if you need me to be an 'actor' on SISI, PM me.

Edited by: Drake Iddon on 08/09/2010 13:13:45 You realize if you do this perfectly you'll get your very own chribba signed veldspar?
the preview looks very promising, although i personally think 1:28 - 1:40 should be kept as an updated version of the old video (zooming in on the ships with thier names, maybe change the ships if you want.)
other than that looks awesome.
Also i'll help with any sisi acting you need. just send me a message ingame

Edited by: Azuse on 08/09/2010 14:57:51 Eve Never Fades got most of the people on this forum, between four and five years ago, into eve. A lot of people have mulled remaking it (since every ccp video since then has been "cinematic"* rather than in-game footage) but decided against it because, while it souled be simple enough, it's offset by the possibility of annoying a great number of people :)
Advice? Sure, don't waste you're time with youtube (and it's compression issues) or other people's films. Organize something on sisi with the specific goal of recreating scenes from the first, unless cvas changed you'll have no shortage of volunteers :) Oh and try to work with as much raw footage as possible (or at least not heavily compressed).
*Given that this is the one most people remember, why have we had so much cinema rather than game films? -------------------------

Altough it looks very nice i dislike that you have used clips of other vids to make it. the opening sequence on the planet is taken from day of darkness II and the rest seems to be taken from ccp's recent trailers.
But ignoring that fact, its looks proimisiing so far

Looks ok for now.
But you want to take special care of the timings and what you are switching to.
Your visual have to follow your audio, so when there's low, slow-moving music parts, you want to keep your visual at the same (fly-bys, constructions, background, anything non-violent). When the music works itself up, you will go over to some more action-filled/to-be action filled visuals, then when it hit it's peak, you blast out the action, lasers, explotions and all that.
In short: Keep your timings tight. Keep visual and audio in-sync (action stuff with high/fast moving music, slow, peaceful visual with slow moving music).
And look into use as much official footage as possible, simply because they are rendered the same, with the same style. (you will instantly notice if it's non-official footage you are using, in-game footage is NOT pre-rendered trailers).

If you are going to remake EVE Never Fades, then you need to do it RIGHT.
First off. EVE Never Fades focuses on using in game footage. In your preview, you are taking a lot of footage from CCP's trailers - this is bad because CCP's trailers are NOT taken from in game. They are using other tools to add effects which make the trailers look MUCH nicer than in game models, even with settings maxxed and even using nhancer to force HDR+FSAA.
Second. EVE Never Fades is not a PvP video. It is a showcase of EVE, which covers all aspects of it, both PvP, PvE, in station and out of station.
Third. Personally, one of my favorite parts of the original trailer is from 1:27 to 1:41 where showcases ships one right after another in quick succession. I would hate you forever if you left that part out ----------

Yeah, I got to agree with Taedrin. Using the CCP trailers(not really a original) completely throws out the value of the eve never fades music video;original work is needed. Plus the video needs better syncing along with improved matching with the rhythm of the song.
To simply put, the video need's a lot of work.

Edited by: Venetian Tar on 15/09/2010 09:52:33 So basically you ripped a load of Eve trailers and chopped them to synch the music?
Edit: Ok, I know it's not the finished product, but use some original footage. |
