Seeing as the GM's are useless and refuse to help since I am running an eve client on server 2008 R2 I will ask you geniuses. The client used to work however after changing some settings and then copying my settings files from my other pc to this one the client somehow is corrupted. It appears to be looking for font files that did not exist but even after adding them it still does not load. I get a black screen when loading client and that is all. I have uninstalled and deleted all settings in the app data and documents folders and it did not help. The only thing that worked was when I reformatted the server for another issue I was having. So obviously there is some setting somewhere that EVE is looking at otherwise why would only a reformat fix it and not removing files / uninstall. Anyone have ideas if there are other locations or hidden registry entries it is looking at and loading the bad settings?

The desktop experience is enabled and I can play other games like DDO no problems. The client used to work until I copied settings from my win 7 pc. After a reformat it worked again but without realizing it was the settings causing the issue I copied them again and messed it up lol. The logserver was run and the GM's even looked at it and said it was the font file which it says. I copy the font file missing from the win 7 pc to the server and it still has the error.

EVE Online has only one or two keys in the registry. And they are useless, so useless that you can make EVE work just after a format if the client was in an another partition, without had to modify registry or whatever. It is better to keep your settings file if you don't want redo all the bookmark classification, but still, it work out-the-box.
For me, it sound like an hardware fault.
You can have a stable system even with faulty RAMs, but get few troubles in specific cases like the one you actually encounter. I accused wrongly CCP one day because of a problem of corrupted EVE installers, and even if apparently the system was alright (games was fine etc...), Memtest+ confirmed that it wasn't. My RAMs corrupted the downloaded files.
I suggest you to make a test.
What you dont understand is the client worked fine until copying settings files from my other pc. The other pc runs at a different resolution as well and maybe be part of the problem if the client is trying to launch at a resolution that is unsupported. There is no hardware fault.

Originally by: Taedrin Backup the settings file and try deleting it then. Usually if you do something, and it breaks after you do that something, that something is the issue causing the problem (*cough* stealth Dominion whine *cough*)
I already said I did a complete uninstall and removed ALL settings files including deleting the eve folder and app data eve folders. It is still loading settings from somewhere else

Yes I tried installing to a new path and it did not help. Also installed latest DX runtime, it is running as admin. The logserver still shows that the font service is failing to start and that blue.dll is also failing

What you don't understand is that EVE Online only use this settings files to store 3D options, resolution mode & size, etc... The registry is not concerned, and there is no backup copy of this files. If you remove them, the client recreate new ones with the default settings, not the one you had before. I did it so much times that I am sure of it.
So if you screwed up the client by copying a new set of settings files, it is obvious that the problem don't concern this files or EVE itself, but something above them. For me, it is an hardware fault.
Its obvious your deduction is fail considering this. Upon reformat client worked. Drivers have not changed since. Client stopped working after copying settings files over. Same problem happened before a reformat. Eve is searching for a font file that it is not loading correctly which only happened AFTER loading these settings files. Until then there were no issues running the client so something is causing it to look for files that I did not have installed but even after installing them it is failing to load. Explain how the client had no issues before and suddenly now its a hardware fault? You fail at troubleshooting.

Edited by: Ascendic on 10/09/2010 19:51:21 Edited by: Ascendic on 10/09/2010 19:50:26 The path was the same on both machines until I did an install to a new directory. But what you are saying just made me remember something. Until I put it back to the original path (the one the same as the pc settings were copied from) in the server log there was an entry that said it could not find the folder path for something. This makes me think there is deffinitely a file somewhere that is telling EVE where to look. I cleared both the appdata and user folders of any eve related files multiple times. When I copied settings though it was only from the appdata folder not the documents folder. I ran a registry search and it turned up nothing besides an installation ID code.
Also I reinstalled using an older client running Dominion to see if that would clear anything and nope.
