Maybe with a maxed-out setup in a heavily supported gang and in the good old days of 4++ ISK Tritanium (when Veldspar was actually THE best ore to mine in both highsec and most of lowsec), but not anymore, not even close.

Sounds about right for the starter-level solo Hulk mining Veldspar nowadays.
If you want to compare ore mining profitability, head on to sites like this one, for instance. You will notice that right now, the only ore that's less valuable than Veldspar is Omber, and Jaspet is roughly just as valuable as Veldspar. The best ore to mine in highsec right now would be Plagioclase, and in case you're in the proper highsec areas and you can find some, Kernite is better.

How about ninja mining? Seriously.
Loot has gotten so bad in level 4s that folks give their missions away left and right. If you were to max your scrapmetal processing skills, I'd bet you do just as well if not better than high sec Hulk mining and your ship needs are laughably cheap. With the ability to now abandon their wrecks, I'm sure you could work something out with a few mission runners in the popular mission hubs and end up with all sorts of minerals.

I agree wtih Solomar. In fact there was a thread on this forum a week or so ago for mission runners to advertise for salvagers to come tidy up after them.
Not all mission runners are whiny jerks who are overly protective about their salvage and will happily provide bookmarks etc to friendly salvagers who ask nicely.

Mining for mining to sell the ore maybe after refining it is pointless nowadays. At least if you want to make ISK quickly. I only mine to build stuff, gone are the days of 4 ISK tritanium. so there should be a sig here? |

1. Don't mine Veldspar. Ever. 2. Join a corp with more than one Orca. 3. Only mine in systems where the sec status is between 0.45 and 0.55. 4. Only mine single gate systems if possible, but no Rookie Hatcheries. 5. Make sure there is no corp mining going on in the system if you mine more than 6 hours after DT. 6. As Tau says, if there are more people in system than there are belts, move to a different system.

so why bother with mining ? im getting more money doing level 4 missions wihtout salvaging the loot. If I do salvage the loot I get as much as 6 times more money.

If all you care about is ISK, then don't mine.
There are some that enjoy mining though, or do it AFK.

Why work out a deal? I get ppl warping into my missions just about every 3-4 missions trying to steal my salv (too bad they can't, I run a Domi drone salver) Just head for a major hub, scan down some random ship, and be quick about the salving.
I'm not gonna bother with any type of hostile action, and I'm not sure who would, it's just salv.
