"It wasn't until the introduction of online gaming that my husband constantly kept his back turned to me and our young son for up to 10 hours a day, seven days a week. I can understand how you can be obsessed with gaming, I loved gaming for a little while myself, but now I don't have time. My husband and I did share a lot of interests before out son was born. Now I'm left holding the baby whilst he battles it out on Eve Online, often going to bed at 3am. A bit of time to remember he's a dad as well as a husband would be the nice, just to show us he's not turned into some deaf, selfish Elf at Christmas! Andrea, England"
Found in this article on the bbc news site about gaming widows/widowers.
From this related article on slashdot "You will see these new vengeful game widows appearing as griefers. They are the ones throwing pots and pans at you.". So pirates aren't psychotic teenager males with hairy palms and bad eyesight after all, they're really gameing widows/widowers out to get thier own back against thier carebear other halves.

My first thought when I saw this thread was to reply "When you see this thread and your first thought is "not ANOTHER of those threads"", but then it turned into some combination of and "would never happen to me, I'm not married"

It¦s a little funny but I most thinks it¦s sad. Some guys really need to step away from the computer sometimes and spend some time witht their friends and family.

Well tbh this article is lopsided...
Seems to be all about addicted guys/gals ingnoring and neglecting their partners/kids and playing games instead.
Well ok i can understand the kid part but seriously...howmany people are STUCK in some worn out, hellish marriage they can't get out of for any number of reasons. In most cases those relationships are about as fixable as a broken cpu... why waste time and tons of money on boring marriage councelors and some such things when you can just ignore your wife/husband by playing online games and have fun while at it two.
Seriously, this is just another one of those 'my spouse has no time for me and its not cause im an annoying person its cause of this other thing' wether its games or a warkaholic problem, most of the time its a bad relationship that is at the foundation.
People complaining about their partners being addicted to games, pubs or work should maybe realize its because their relationship sucks and end it asap...
No offence ot any 'victims'
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

The balance is hard. I tend to plan my Eve time around the family. Knowing what needs to be done.
To PVP with a family is very hard, being an industrial on the other hand is easier. --------------------------
Garsh ma it soo cool killing people in there space thingies |

Last week a good friend of mine went like "What, you playing Eve agßin?!". Was kinda funny, considering that he has lost one wife and two jobs over his own fav MMORPG- makes one very wary about ones own gaming behaviour... because computer games are bloody addictive, even without the social pressure and the need to keep up with the in-game Joneses: it is simply the most effective way to get an endorfine rush I know.
(of course I am lucky enough to be in an industrial corp where almost everybody thinks of Eve as a game to be played on the side... being in one of the big alliances is probably be much worse for your health ) ------------------------------------------ My bio

Real Life > Online Life
Online gaming should be used in your spare time (other then that that spend with friends / family). If you are taking time away from over activites to play more online... then its time to re-evaluate your values and step away from the computer.

I find that the time I play eve is "ME time," away from the gf, away from the world. I come home from work, turn on the computer, ts, eve, and forget about all the problems of the day for a few hours. Alas, after a while, sanity returns, usually, after I lose yet another taranis. So I come back to the gf, and spend the rest of the evning with her.
She does complain that I spend too much time playing eve and not paying atention to her. But does not everyone deserve some time that they can spend alone, without the significant other being ever present, ever nagging, ever telling the same old story you heard 20 times already...
10 hours a day of eve is something I pull when she is out of town, and I enjoy it greatly. I cannot imagine though doing that day after day. Especially when you got a kid in the background.

People basically do what they enjoy. As long as it doesn't harm others, what's the problem?
I lead a fairly normal life, I have some great friends and we go out together and have fun. I typically have a fairly easy (arm's length) relationship going on, anything more than that and they stop respecting you and start nagging . When I'm able to tolerate the constant *****ing I spend time with my family (Mum Dad Bro etc). I get up and go to work every day like a billion other wage slaves... But, generally speaking I personally find life a bit of a disappointment..
All the fluffy stuff they tell you when you are young about everything being wonderful and how we are all special is basically a complete lie, designed to stop you committing suicide before reaching adulthood. (Maybe that's a little too cynical) The point is, games like EVE, or whatever your poison is, fulfil a need. Surrounded by all the drudgery, repetitiveness and general bull**** of everyday life its hardly a wonder that people choose to spent as much time as they can in a fantasy world where they can lead an exciting and interesting alternate life. EVE is cerebral, strategic, social fantasy, and I love it.
I'm not a teenager or new to gaming, I've been playing games for around 15 years now. And I'll tell you something... When they do finally invent a proper neural interface for games like this, I'll be towards the front of the que shouting, "Plug me the fk in!"
