Hi,
Not a new player but hoping this is the best forum to ask my question in and hopefully it'll help any new folks as well.
As the subject suggests, I have problems connnecting from my laptop when I'm abroad. I am going to South France (I'm normally UK based) and have wireless access there. When I was there last year, it (the laptop) wouldn't let me log in to Eve. :(
I can barely recall the message but it was something akin to "you cannot connect to that server from your present location".
Is there something I can do to my firewall or client that would allow me access when I'm abroad - I assume it's the same client for one and all so I'm anticipating it to be an ISP thing but figured it can't hurt to ask.
You've all got very little information to go on I know, but any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. If this should have been posted in another forum, please let me know.
I've got my long skill training planned just in case I get no joy.

I can only assume you selected to only allow EVE to connect from a "home" network (the default value when the question first pops up on Win7, suppose it's the same on Vista), and you probably selected your UK wireless as "home"... as opposed to a "public" network (like you probably selected the wireless in France). So now in the firewall settings, you have EVE ("CCP ExeFile") selected as only allowed to connect "when connection is secure". All you need to do is go into control panel, firewall, advanced settings, and select it to allow from "only when secure" to "always". Alternatively, just set the France wireless as "home" too.
I give it 90% odds that's the problem.

Ah yes, the great French firewall. It slows down attacking hackers which gives the french time to flee Signature locked for editing a moderator's warning. Zymurgist |

I thought the French firewall was the one where all the defenders are stuck watching ports that noone uses while the hackers parachute in behind the lines and disable the defenses which aren't designed to handle attacks from inside the firewall?

@ the replies.
Many thanks Akita, that would make sense. I'll hopefully post with a "Yay, it worked!" this time next week.

How frusterating! I hope you get it fixed. I have stayed with XP for a long, long, time. Why did Microsoft make it so 7 handles internet connections so different than XP? Is it in the name of security?

"Yay, it worked"
I took the option of putting the internet connection as 'home', as it might have helped me with other apps as well, rather than setting it as 'public'.
Many thanks for the help.
