As someone who was not blessed with a decent PC, I found myself at the disadvantage of being at the mercy of my frame rate.
To get around this, however, I actually just turned on the star map and relied on my overlay to perform general actions. And so far it works pretty well but I find myself at a significant disadvantage at times. Particularly, in combat, I never know where something is in relation to my ship. Let's say that I see that two ships are 40km away. I don't know if they're on opposite sides or together or what.
What I'm suggesting is a mode to view through that focuses more on conveying as much information as possible on the screen in front of you at the cost of pretty graphics. Sort of like a starmap for the immediate area. Even those with more decent PCs might be able to appreciate this as some people get in most PC intensive tangles involving over a hundred ships at once.
Essentially what I'm asking for is an option for anyone to fall back on if where they intend to function causes their PC to chug.
Would you agree? Would you like to see this? |

I don't see this happening. The eve "classic" client was dropped a few of years ago and that's basically what you are asking for. I'm sorry to say it, but if you want to play computer games beyond solitaire, you need something reasonably modern. It doesn't need to be fancy but it does have to have a dedicated graphics card. It doesn't need to be all that new either, my 4 year old mid-priced laptop runs eve just fine. The Troll is trolling. |

I agree this is something that needs to be put back into the game. And it wouldn't be that hard to implement.
The graphics are nice but just a distraction from the real game. Nice to look at but very difficult to run in a 100 ship battle.
As for anyone saying go get a better computer, I ain't rich, but if your buying..... (yeah, what I thought, won't put YOUR money where your mouth is) |

I'm not asking for old graphics, I'm asking for graphics entirely composed of the UI and no shiny graphics at all. With ships and their locations only represented by their icons. As well as other tools for quickly getting information crucial to getting an edge in fights.
This could also be used if you think the models get in the way. |

Have you tried using the 'optimize settings' menu and optimizing for memory?
Optimizing your settings for Performance will set Texture Quality to "Medium", Shader to "Low", LOD Quality to "Low" and if applicable, turn off Shadows, HDR and Bloom. This will also disable most of the graphical options if you are logged in. This setting is recommended for minimum spec hardware. Some settings will take effect on the next log in.
This would be the closest thing to what you are asking for. Further, you can set (manually) texture quality to 'low' and further reduce your lag. |
