I wish a dev would appear with an uptodate list of:
Total number of lap slots Total number of lap slots currently in use Average number of days a lab slot is used concurrently Corporation with the most lab slots Average ME of BP's currently in a lab slot.

The labslots will spike in rental costs and then the bottom will drop out of the market.
Right now, most of the labslot usage is out of paranoia. Paranoia that if they let their slots go, they wont be able to get it back in the future. Very soon the cost of the rentals will overcome the paranoia of folks and the labs will start opening up pretty quickly. After that there will be fairly sharp drop in lab slot costs. It's kind of like a fever, you just have to wait for the fever to break.
To be honest, the researching field needed some expense put into it. You have to do a fair amount of investing of isk into other fields and up until now there were virtually no operating expenses for running labslots. I mean for the longest time they were renting for 1000 isk! Then you can turn around and make isk selling bpc's. YOu could make profit with an alt and never even have to leave the station or invest much iskwise. Finally, they will have to budget and find a marketable price for bpcs or than anything greater than ZERO.
Sure bpc prices will go up, but I can't imagine that being a bad thing. Production will increase and people will consider buying BPO's instead. Instead of people buying bpc's to build their stuff, they might look for built products.
All in all, I dont see it as too much of a problem. If you want a labslot really bad, then you can find one if you search. It's not easy, but they come open on a regular basis. You wont be able to be too picky about the location though, but they're around to find.

I like the idea of you renting a lab not for a set period of time, but for a set amount of work on the BPO. One additional thing which might help the problem could be to set a Maximum level that a BP can be researched to. This thread Link shows how to calculate how many levels of ME are needed to make a BP so it has no waste at all. That figure should be the maximum number of levels that a BP can be researched to, this would stop the people who set a small ammo BPO for 1500 levels of ME, when they only actually need to do 20 levels to reach optimal. This would mean that instead of putting a cheap BP into the lab for 6 months and just paying the bills, people who want to block the labs up would have to buy a new BP every few days and visit each lab every few days as well to insert the new BP.
In addition, the ability to research PE on a BP should be removed from labs until CCP fix it so PE research actually does something, this would prevent people from blocking up labs doing infinite runs of PE research as well, which at most would only save 5s off any BP manufacturing time anyway.

I believe that if we have CCP remove "Copy" from the menu of labs, the entire EVE market will be alot better off. 1) Lab slots will become easy to get again. 2) Empire market will grow again. 3) Only people with the originals will be producing and buying minerals again. 4) Player rats would have alot tougher time getting replacement ships to 0.0 space without copies. 5) I would start building ships again :)

Supply and Demand god dangit. If this was a real economy, Donald Trumph would be outside over by Rens putting up 2 more factory's just to provide low lab slots to the DEMAND that is out there. So Donald could charge a decent rental fee and make a cool 100million in a month. CCP are idiots and so are the rest of you :P

I really like the idea of renting labs per job, with limits on max runs per job.
I'd expand on this just a bit...
Make the labs multi-function, say you want to run a BPo to max optimal ME, followed by max optimal PE (which is worthless atm)... make the drop downs able to have multiple settings so you could schedule jobs concurrently, and once the job is done your BP spits out into the hangar and the lab unrents.
Of course this is all academic, because the big fix is already in... escalating rent. ROFL
The only thing escalating rent has done is force the builders to offset costs by charging more for their product, be it item or BPc. In the end this only hurts the small guy who has a tough time making Isk trying to get started in the game. ________________________________________________ From deep in space where nobody hears my screams... I'm really sick of this stupid argument. When lab slots hit a million a week, they'll become more available, especially in lower-security systems. Until then, live with it, buy a few labslots, or start camping a station (more or less what I did to get mine).

yes. let's all do the exact same thing in game. it's what makes an MMOG what it is...
there is a fine, but dissasterous line between a fart and a shart. i suggest you make sure which side you want to be on... |

I've always thought ME caps were a decent idea. Cap ships at 50 ME, modules at 100 ME, and ammo at 1000 ME. Its not like anything above that is useful in any way whatsoever.

I want a labslot to make copies, because I live in different stations depending on what I do and you have nothing to buy in 0.0, you have to build it yourself.
I also want a labslot because it is an advertised feature, I created my character as scientist. There's no such thing ingame atm.
CCP really likes lottery, it seems. There's a slot there ! Where ? There ! Don't see it ? Oops, already rented.
Yeah, right

CCP are a bit like polititians...
They have a problem, they think for a bit abotu some solutions. then they slap em all in a big box and pull out a random idea nd go with it. Then they make some last minute changes in the few houres int akes them to implement it.
They just change, tweak and generally mess up the concept lateron to make it actually work for ****
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

My corp has 6, I use them all for research and makig copys for the corp....I'm running out of BPO's to research and will be giving them up soon....if you can catch them..you will be the winner of 6 lab slots at a highly increasing lab price rate You're only a martyr if someone cares about you. |
