PLEASE CCP, it is very irritating when you say something in corp and no one responds. You just have to sit their wondering who is away and who is ignoring you. Please put in an away command. It could be automatic and player controlled. And players please dont say "well the person can just log off" cause most people I know don't do that. They just sit there online. Like I do.

try using irc on the side. Works like a charm of you can choose your nick according to your current status.

I am all for the away button. If a character has not said anything or clicked on onything, or smoked anything, or screwed a minmitar slave... ummmm.... anyway, people not active should get their names dimmed, stamped with away message, etc.
Perhaps make this only appear in non-local chats.

it would be very easy, add a new chat command:
/afk
it would add a prefix: (afk)Your Name then if you say something in any channel, the (afk) is removed. A purely visual change.

But i know people who log on.. 5 mins later they headout to work for the day or away for like 15hrs or so... so bring it in..... ------------------------

If someone hails me in local I usually try to make sure I reply.
If I don't reply it's usually because I'm afk.
