Hello dear capsuleers,
it's been a long time since i played in high sec and now i'am a bit curious about how the aggression/killrights work. Some relativly new player jumped into my level 3 mission and stole my bik.. eh i mean missionloot. And he went flashy red, while i was sitting in my domi and thought WTF! Because i have the bad habit to lock and shoot at flashy reds, if they are not coincidentally in my gang or friends,i instantly(thats a lie.. it took aeons) locked his little rifter an blew him up.
Then in my paranoid mind i had thouhgts, that this maybe was not the best idea. And at that moment a Vexor arrived and locked me. He wasn't flashy and so i avoided to blow him up,too. I warped to station before bigger and more dangerous ships arrived. I suppose i was lucky that nothing else happened.
Okay now the question. I know that the little newcomer-thief can come in a bigger ship and try to take revenge for 15 minutes, which would be slightly entertaining. But can his corpmates or his ally can take revenge during the 15 minutes, too? (which would't be that entertaining). Does he get killrights or his corp for blowing up his ship. Can he, if he has killrights, come later attack me and when i shoot back, his mates blow me up?
I'am thankful for every reply that can enlight me about all that high-sec mumbo-jumbo. Sincerly Kaladra

If he was flashy you had agro rights. His corp has no rights to aggro you in this situation. They were just hoping that you would feel confident after blowing up the rifter, that you would shoot the slightly bigger vexor, and when you did that they would warp in the rest of their corp fleet. You did right by not engaging the vexor.

If you take from someone's can, you gain aggression from the person whom the can belonged to AS WELL as their corp for 15 minutes (i.e that Rifer could have been shot at by you or anyone in your corp). Should you kill your loot thief, HE will gain killrights on you, not his corp. Since you killed his Rifter he can now legally engage you wherever, whenever for 30 days (I think, might be less).
That Vexor you encountered... not sure what he was doing. If they were part of the same corp then I'm guessing they they didn't quite understand the aggression mechanics themselves and thought the same thing you did (that they could engage back if you killed their corpie).
You made a move to go back to station after that encounter. Now watch your back for the next 30 days and you should be okay. _______________________

Edited by: Kaladra on 23/09/2010 03:53:27 Thx for the answer Slade,
but wouldn't CONCORD blow me up if i would have shot the Vexor? That was my first thought: "Don't fire at the Vexor or CONCORD will Roflpwn me". And did his corp/ally get aggro for me when i shot his ship? I'am still a bit confused.
Edit:SHahFluffers thx for the answer that was the info i was looking for. Are you sure with that killright thingy for 30 days? because that could be a pain when i'am traveling with a non combat ship or sitting in a barge. Don't want that newb jumping out of nowhere and roflpwn me, i would be the laughing stock of my corp.

The thief you blew up had standard aggression rights for 15 minutes, not 30 days. His only recourse was to switch to a meaner ship and come find you in that small window; however there are aggro extension mechanics that involve shooting your wrecks etc that may have extended the aggro rights beyond 15 minutes if your thief knew what he was doing. Which, as he lost his Rifter to a PvE Domi, he probably didn't.
The only way the thief's corp would gain aggression rights on you is if you stole back "your" loot from the thief - including, I believe, looting the Rifter's wreck.
30 day kill rights only apply if you are unlawfully killed in empire space and make no move to defend yourself - it most commonly applies to suicide ganks. Destroying a ship flagged flashy red for stealing is a legal response.

CONCORD would indeed have omgwtfpwned you if you'd shot the Vexor. Your pirate's corp didn't get aggro when you shot the pirate, only he did, and only for 15 minutes.

Thx Silent Shaz,
Okay that makes sense.Because i remembered that killrights only are granted when i get killed in low-sec, or something like that, wasn't sure myself. But the last thing that bothered me, his wreck was white? Shouldn' it be yellow if it's not "my wreck"?
Only wanted to know, because i was temted to get my mssion loot back.

Killrights happen if you were killed in concord space (that includes lowsec) while you weren't aggressed to the target and you didn't aggres back. So if you're not "blinky" to the one shooting you and you don't shoot/scramble/ecm back then you get killrights. This has nothing to do with the 15 minute aggression timer after the "steal can, go blinky, get shot at" routine.
If you destroy a ship the wreck will be white for you, meaning you can take loot from that wreck without becoming aggressed to the wreck owner's corp. This has always been the case but recently CCP made the wrecks actually appear white to you.

As for the purpose of the Vexor... it could be had was planning to rep the rifter. If he had Shield/armor rep drones in his bay, he could have remote repped the rifter, hoping you would engage either the drones of the vexor to stop it, letting the vexor join the fight, bringing combat drones into play.
