Go for a natural relaxed pose for one. Second is turning down the lighting. A liitle below halfway. About 40 to 45%. And get it to shine from a good angle. And then go for nice smile. Make sure the eyes are tracked towards you when you set up. Natural lighting color is good unless you want a club style portrait. |

Oh I know what it is....lack of emotion.
Try to give her some sort of expression when you get to the portrait picking stage. Note that at that stage you can move parts of her face asymmetrically thus allowing you to create a raised eyebrow or a sideways smirk. Also the transformations don't effect the character in any permanent way. You can reset the expression if you want later. The Drake is a Lie |

These are just suggestions:
-Work with the chin and lower cheeks and try to add a bit more round-ness to her jaw-line. Currently her lower/mid cheeks look like she's about to blow out a candle. -Pull her chin forward a small bit as well. -Consider moving her nose upwards a little bit. -The mouth and nose can be moved up and down independently within a certain limit. It is possible to move them both up and have them look alright, but still need to raise the chin to make things look right. -Some of the puffyness around the eyes could be remedied by moving the eyes a little deeper into the sockets, as well as adjusting the eyelid itself -Don't be afraid to give her some brow structure (not a lot, but maybe a little more than she has currently). -When working with facial structure, I like to nuke the hair and makeup completely so none of it is distracting me. -Maybe darken the eyebrows a bit.
Not a whole lot needs to be changed drastically. A lot of "getting it right" has to do with subtle changes, which can be difficult at times because the characters keep moving around.

I'm no expert at all. I'm mostly a trial and error type person, but I think the same techniques apply to any character creation in any game with customization:
Take your sweet ridiculous amount of time while you're in the character creator. Extra time here means less irritation when you're looking at your flawed character later. I'm one of those weirdos who likes to look at a "close to perfect" character when I'm playing my games, and if I screw it up, it kinda ruins the whole thing for me.
First, I pick the most obvious feature that I don't like, and figure what needs to be changed about it. Most of the time this is either the jaw line or eye spacing for me. Once you have that first "problem" worked out, move on to the next biggest flaw. Maybe the chin, or nose length. I keep doing this repeatedly til I've gone over the whole face a couple or several times. Then Ifinetune the spacings between parts and transitions. It can take very very minor or subtle changes to the face to make a huge difference in overall appearance.
Once you've done all this, go have a smoke, do the dishes, whatever. Come back and look at it again later. Often, you'll see flaws or problems that you didn't see the first time.
When that's all done, you might oughta be good to go. Fortunately, all the cosmetic stuff, and even eyes/hair can be changed later if you need. Just make sure you took the time to get the foundation right.
I don't even know if any of this is helpful, and like I said, I'm no expert. But time spent earlier in the char create process will save you from much frustration later, when you're trying to find a good pose/light/background. I spent a good hour or so on this one, and even still, I notice flaws that I overlooked that kinda bug me now. |

Just got myself a reculpt ticket... really pondering about what to change
Tried using the golden ratio as a guideline but when ever you move any part of your facial feature ,you really mess up the other i/j and other ratios

I think giving any advise on specific facial qualities doesn't work since I have seen people make various traits like big nose, wide set eyes, high cheekbones, big ears and their opposites work.
Also there are personal preferences. I for one lean towards deep set eyes, which narrowed my choices to Civire or Gallente. I chose Gallente since Civire women have a more masculine jaw line and brow and Gallente have more pointed chins and noses. I also like big mouths and slight overbites which are not racial specific. I personally take these traits past the traditional "model" look intentionally to fit my personal preferences. Tweak your character until you hit your ideal look based off of characteristics you personally like or you can copy Hollywood and other peoples advice for a more conventional look.
The best (not easiest way) to achieve your ideal is to take a screen capture of your character in the portrait screen. Then go to the previous creator screen and adjust one or two elements slightly. Then go forward to the portrait screen again and take another screen capture without changing the pose. Then alt tab to your viewer and pull up the image to full screen. Flip between the before and after images with the arrows and determine which one works better. This is time consuming but should result in a very custom designed avatar that fits your individual tastes. |

What annoys me is that I get the avatar looking reasonable then you go to Captain's Quarters and it looks like a waxwork, bearing little resemblance to your "hero portrait".
Result? Never gone back to CQ. All that CCP development time wasted on me. |

I find moving the mouth is not good for in an avatar. Moving the eyes and getting a frown can work. Take the picture like a pro, don't have it staring straight at the screen, try to find the best distance and play around with backgrounds and lighting.
Don't overburden the face with tattoos and scars until you've had a bit of practice. |

I think your being overly critical. From a creative stand point if your only tweaking whats there and your still unhappy start over from scratch instead of experimenting with whats there already.
My alt was designed by me. Lyric here was actually designed by my Wife, who when I finally took the time to recreate this avatar from the revamp of the old system I called her over and had her call the shots. Getting input from another individual even one person who knows nothing about eve can help you make some good choices.
I couldn't see my avatar any other way, I may alter his clothes from time to time, but I tried to change his eye color to my RL eye color and It just didn't work so I set it back to its original.
You'll arrive at the right design decision when after you have left it alone for a few days if you try to alter it you feel like you need to go back to how it initially was.
I notice you have the same black on white uniform in every picture shake up there wardrobe as it will have a visual impact on other decisions you have made about your avatar.
Make some changes come to a stopping point play eve or do something else then come back to it after a couple of days. Noir. and Noir Academy are recruiting apply at www.noirmercs.comI Noir Academy: 60 days old must be able to fly at least one tech II frigate. I Noir. Recruits: 4:1 k/d ratio and can fly tech II cruisers. |

It takes awhile, just keep fiddling around with it - find a pose you like, stick with it for a day, take a fresh look at it the following day and decide where / what to change up.
Save your rescuplt until you're set on the pose (in my opinion), and capture the portraits of your character as you go from day to day to keep track of what you've done prior. On occaision, you wish you hadn't redone a portrait, and having a visual guide from the past to work off of is nice. |

Don't be afraid to click 'randomize' and then fiddle with what it gives you. It is a good way to force yourself out of your comfort zone. That zone ends up being a block to some neat creativity. |

Good advice, randomize can give you a good base to start with, something that gives a bit of inspiration, just keep clicking till you see something with potential. Google human face, the first will show you the "magic" formula for facial proportions, but that's also a small guideline. Also the mouth being out or in when moved from the side can make a big difference. Finally when all else fails try a different race. For me Minmatar and Gallante work best. |

I usually come up with a concept of what an avatar should express, what archetype I'm going for. I wanted mine to look a bit like a grizzled Minmatar combat engineer, say... Han Solo with a touch of Scotty, and a dash of the Shadow Broker's brooding arrogance. Once you have this mental picture, it becomes a lot easier to express it in the character creator. |

Also I don't know if it's just me, but your actual character model in game (That you walk around with) looks barely like the one you make in the character creator. |
