Just conquered Calradia with several hundred Mamlukes, Vaegir and Swadian Knights (Charisma 30 4tw). What an awesome awesome game. Better still, the reasonably authentic medieval simulation is helping to teach my children history (what boy wouldn't be interested in the evolution of weaponry, or being able to walk around a virtual castle or village?).
Looking for something a bit extra now though, so would any of you like to recommend any mods?

Tbh I'm still wowed by the awesomeness of the stock game. Indie devs ftw.
Saying that you might want to look here as a starting point. ZOMG!!! |

The 'any decent mods for m&b' thing is pretty much what most people ask. The sad fact is its a kiddie fest with hardly any mods introducing balance or challenge (or extremes of those). Most never get finished either. I despaired of the total failfest tbh.
The single player game for Warband is a huge disappointment. They fixed a lot of the more irritating things in the original but it still looks hideous - the map is just so fail - and it just feels utterly empty and pointless. The new 'immersion' scripted encounters and marriage don't really do it for me either. They just slow the game down and are hideously tedious when you've been through them all a dozen times. I didn't bother buying it based on the trial. Multiplayer is fine (and the obvious focus) but there's a dearth of proper mods for it right now and the basic game has no levelling or experience/skill/eq retention.
I still go back to the original. About to release a native Overhaul mod next week as it happens.
I'll pimp ma link here in due course. :P

The Prophesy of Pendor mod is one of the best out there, but unfortunately it only works with the original M&B. It's very nicely done with some old school concepts that increases the difficulty in gameplay.
They're working on a port over to M&B Warband, but don't hold your breath when it'll be done. |

I'm also waiting for the Prophecy of Pendor port to Warband.
In the meantime, I've been playing one called Blood and Steel. It's pretty good, and wonderfully difficult, but I miss the depth of Pendor.

Same, I can't wait for it to be finished. PoP with some of the warband features will be even more amazing than the original, which I spent dozens and dozens of hours on.

I must be easy to please. Warband was a nice expansion to the stock mount and blade game imho and is still fun to boot up for an hour or two of fun. |

Edited by: Lance Fighter on 27/09/2010 03:32:12 im currently running blood and steel - its more a mod of empire management than your individual character, and its fairly frequently updated/improved.. Youll find me on the forums there fairly frequently :p
I am, however, largely dissapointed there is no 'original m&b mod compatibility mode' so i can play native enhanced... (port is in progress, no release yet)
edit: as for warband native - its exactly the same as native from m&b.... and thus, boring. I played m&b to death on native a few times, and generally felt that the improvements warband brought in (marriage, etc) didnt improve native enough to make it 'a new game' really. It largely felt like they just moved caladria to a new map, stuck in a new faction for fun.

Edited by: Florio on 27/09/2010 04:23:14 What Warband has, however, is the ability to set up your own faction. So for me that makes it better than the original. I must admit I didn't bother with the whole marriage thing, I just started conquering everyone and steamrollered them into oblivion. Once you get Charisma in the high 20s and all your companions with training at 3 or 4 you're pretty much there for the army building and conquering stage (and engineering is essential to enable rapid conquest). In fact I didn't even bother handing out castles or towns to any companions, just took them all for myself. I only ever needed the one army with a few hundred knights in a nearby town/castle to "top-up" losses and switch racial armies to cater for morale (Swadian knights don't like conquering Swadia etc). That's why I'm looking forward to the mods, to give me some more challenge.

I will hereby invoke the 'Native Enhanced did this better' clause of my previous post :p generally any mod worth its salt in m&b had similar faction building elements..
If you just want a light mod for warband, diplomacy might spice things up a bit. no gameplay changes, just changes in how treaties and such are formed.

I've been trying new mods left and right, and I may have found a winner:
1257 AD
Massive map. Tons of factions. Lots of new mechanics. Re-done environments. Realistic and DIFFICULT.
I'll have to spend a few more days with it, but so far it's better than Pendor.

That was a great mod and what I sought to reproduce with my own look and feel in my mod.
Diplomacy looks good but without a map overhaul, not going to make the game better. Its still empty and far too big alas.
1257 looks awesome .. but 900mb of downloads will have to wait until I can **** someone's fat pipe!

imagine a game like eve online wrapped in a game like mount and blade, all the same pvp, castle conquering etc etc, no hold your hand death approach.
armor, helmets, swords, shields etc = ships/mods.
castles = stations.
archer class = sniper armored infantry = HAC cavalry = nano hac? :P
siege machines = dread?
would be cool, every soldier in an army, an individual player. ------

and all the combat in mount and blade is instanced, so uh..

Just browsing the details of this mod. Wow, this is just what I've been looking for, thank you very much. I'm just constantly amazed by the brilliance of modders. Thank goodness I never got into consoles. I'm so going to **** Europe.
