Simple one this...
The art assets exist already. It shouldn't be terribly hard to allow players to fly the remaining faction specific ships. I for one would enjoy flying a shiny black Dominix. I can see the argument that there are not specific roles for some of these ships... but I am not sure they'd need one exactly, I like the idea of increased variety.
If the overall number of faction ships available to players were higher, we'd see a drop in price, and presumably more of these ships used in direct PvP.

"more variety" is not really putting details into ideas.

Umm... different part of the post. You might have missed it by not reading it, so I will quote it for the second time.
Paraphrasing, I am of the opinion that we would see a greater number of faction ships used in PvP if there were more faction ships available for players to buy. It wouldn't possible to keep the price of these ships artificially high with more competition in the market from other sellers.
In saying that, I also don't particularly see why all faction ships and modules are not added to the market. Named items were not originally in the market... their addition was very useful.

Edited by: Sephiroth CloneIIV on 28/09/2010 16:43:30 More variety wouldn't increase the quanity of faction ships, that would require increased drops of blueprints, or increase from other sources such as buy one get two at the serpetes corporation rewards store.
The idea is good and can be done (and has a clear idea of how it could be done). Have more faction ships based off current existing models, such as black dominix's or everything the serpentes have that is a 'back in black' version of gallente ships.
Another example would be equilibrium of man, they have distinct color variation of ammar, with distinct weapons for the hull, but alas no way to fly them at the moment. Signature removed for having inappropriate content. Zymurgist |

Edited by: LordElfa on 28/09/2010 17:01:47 More faction ships would be awesome but I'd like to see them release the Concord ships, albeit with realistic stats, to the population at large.
I wants me a Concord Battleship and a Concord Megathron!
That said, the current prices keep the amount of factions ships right where they should be IMO, make them too cheap and it'll turn into Faction Ships Online.

Why only more faction ships ? I will love more navy versions of ships - I will love to see navy versions of BCs and DDs. ------------------------------------------------

I'm not against Navy ships, but I don't know if I could take more "camo in space" with some of them. Personally, I'd like to see some faction and tech 2 capital ships made available before we start adding more faction versions of ships that already have multiple versions available.

Well the faction models exist for everything. I would love to see Concord battleships made available for players, along with literally every type of NPC ship that's not currently flyable.
(I feel like we are looking at at least a dozen more frigates, 10 or so cruisers, several battleships and with the build on sisi, at least one capital ship)
I meant to imply that with more faction ship types, I was expecting more frequent drops because these new drops would simply be added to the old ones.
The stats of faction ships would need to be very carefully looked at though, because as they became more common, their capacity to unbalance the game would increase.

In my mind that's exactly why faction ships shouldn't become more common. We pay the high price for both their rarity and amazing stats. Make them more frequent and less powerful and whats the point? I agree that all the current ships in game that aren't available should be.
Let's all be honest though, what we all really want are Jove faction sips to come out...
...and all that that implies.

Interesting idea. The models are there. If there was just a way to reverse engineer some of those ships.
I would like to fly one of those Drone AI Domi's.

Now that would be an interesting ship to fly. I wonder what they'd do with it....

Most faction ships aren't artificially high in price unless they are FOTM. If you check contracts for the BPC vs. Manufactured ships, the difference in price is the cost of the minerals for manufacturing. Most BPCs, when purchased outright from a faction LP store, do in fact cost a boat-load of money to begin with, whether it be the difficulty of running pirate missions for LP or any other number of factors. Due to the rarity of the BPCs, things will follow a standard supply/demand curve, i.e. because Drams are highly valued due to their awesomeness, they get flown and destroyed rather frequently, and their supply of BPCs is relatively low, their price is then high. More alternatives wont necessarily lower their cost unfortunately.
That said, I would still love to fly a sexeh EOM Arbitrator and Apoc. Gotta love their blue paint scheme on an Amarr hull. ------------------------ Peace through superior firepower: a guiding principle for uncertain times. |

You clearly had a misunderstanding of markets, a higher variety of faction ships would proberly increase the cost. Supply and demand.

Call me crazy... but why would it increase the cost if there were more ships to be had overall?

because LP are used to buy faction ships. LP spread over 10 ships means a decent supply of each of those 10. The same LP spread over 20 types means half the supply, and higer prices.

True enough, maybe the ships could cost less LP. Also there mission giving factions that currently don't have any flyable ships to give out.
However, I am also not sure that was what he meant...
