Hi,
I'm trying to become a more effective EvE Player and for a long time now, I have ignored the uses and meaning of terms like Ladar, Radar, Transversal Velocity etc.
Is there a place or document or sticky some where that someone has that provides more detail to these kinds of things?
Thanks in advance

Seems to be lacking many words though... and somehow I get the feeling that HC isn't very commonly used by non ISD/CCP personell.

Hast, Scorpyn,
Thanks for the reponses, however what I'm looking for is more of a detailed description of what it does. Not just the TLA's
Thanks,

The "Ships and Modules" section of the forum is probably your best bet, along with the faq and the player guide.

Corpmates + Teamspeak = The Ultimate Guide
Seriously there is nothing that can explain all that stuff better and faster than your corpmates. If they are true corpmates they also won't have issues explaining most of the stuff to you or at least pointing you locations where you can read up.

Once again, Thanks for the reponces, but it just does not seems as if any one person has the answers I'm looking for.
I need the info, so that I can setup a FAQ for our noobs, but also to better understand the "inner workings" of the flight & fight model. If I'm going to teach something to noobs in my corp, I need to understand it as well. So far, I have had about 10 differend answers for 10 differend people.
Looks like my search might be invain...
Once again, thanks to those that have posted here.

I'll try to help then.
Ladar/Radar/Gravimetric/Magnetometric = sensor types Ladar-Minmatar Radar-Amarr Gravimetric-Caldari Magnetometric-Gallente
Transversal Velocity = one of many factors determining whether a gun hits a target.
A ship with high transversal velocity compared to yours is hard to hit (especially with large guns). A good plan is to try and keep the transversal velocity of your enemy under or around 50, which generally results in a good chance-to-hit.
(correct me if I'm wrong im not much a turret person)
But as said before, your corpmates and friends are your best source of info, there are far to many terms and things about eve to be discussed in one forum thread.
Always hit the big red button whenever you get the chance.

Transversal velocity is compared with turret tracking speed. If the transversal velocity is causing the ship to exceed the gun's tracking speed, then the turret will most likely miss. There's a bit of trig involved to compare the two, but the easy summary is:
Higher Transversal Velocity + Less Distance To Attacker = Harder to hit
Higher Turret Tracking Speed + More Distance To Attacker (not taking effective range into account) = Easier to hit
What I don't get is the difference between Radial Veolcity and Transversal Velocity. For some reason they are both expressed in m/s, but should Radial Velocity be expressed in radians/second like tracking speed?
Oh well -Dewar ---

ok, someone correct me if i'm wrong here... but I think of it like this:
- draw a right-triangle. call the vertices A, B (this is the vertex with the 90-deg angle), and C - put your ship at A. put target at C. - let's say target is moving from point C towards point B...(curved paths of orbit would operate similar, but i'm trying to be simple without having diagrams) - if your gun can track (i.e. turn fast enough) through the angle at your vertex A to keep up with the target... then you will have a greater chance of landing a hit.
yea? nay? I think this is kinda how it works

Edited by: Hakera on 04/01/2005 00:43:50 start here as a basic guide. Then use the forum search searching mainly the fighter or gameplay forums and you should glean all the information you need.

Draw a circle, your ship being the center, the other one forming the edge of the circle. The radial speed is how fast the other is approaching you along the RADIUS, so it's m/s.
Transversal is how fast the "90 degree turned vectors"* other of each ships vectors are approaching each other. So this is in m/s too.
*Sorry english is not my first language.. so i'll try that, the "->" are the ships, the "|" are the compared vectors

guess that's how it might work...
