Since the database can distinguish between the two, how come you aren't doing it with icons?
Why not simply do: If BPC -> Red Icon, if BPO -> Blue.
It can't be hard to write a simple overwrite module to replace all blueprint icons with coloured once if your hard coded module of it wont allow it. Messy but works. It can be done client-side, since the client already receives the data tags that indicate whether it's a BPC or BPO.
Would make sorting our hangers and cans 1000x easier. When done client-side it also doesn't create extra server strain on say, killmails or what not. Whichever issue prevents you from doing something about it.
Thank you ------

Thus we apply it client side.
For example; Open your hangar, the game sends that data (nr of runs) and determines which blueprint is a bpo and which is a bpc. The client then puts an overlay image ontop of the blueprints in your hanger based on the bpc or bpo tag. Store it client side in cache to prevent having to load all the blueprints every time you open your hanger/cargo/can/lab.
That or it's about time the blueprint code gets an overhaul.
Personally I can't believe how the design intend got live in it's current state. ------

Not ships, merely a list of BPC/BPO you have, it would be nothing but a yes/no per blueprint, and based on yes/no a different icon is applied. ------

for the client to distinguish what is a bpo/c each bp would need another database call. This would add significant load to the database, resulting in a worse overall experiance to all.
hosting the list of BP's on the client's pc, could open it up to cheets, if they doctered the file to assosiate a bpc with a bpo.

When you open your hangar, you already get those calls from the database. The client would simple Go 'This blueprint has unlimited runs, thus is a bpo, there for I overlay the green coloured blueprint icon'. For other items you also get those database calls 'in this hanger there are x items y, z items a, etc'.
The client just has to load an additional icon and overlay it on the BPO. ------

If you read the link that Lady Spank posted. A fue post down ccp valar posted
There is the problem, BP info is not kept in the items table, and the join with the table its kept in is too costly.
and
Of course its possible to cache the info, however, imagine opening "Show info" on all BPs in your corp hangar at once. Imagine hundreds of people doing that. Imagine the lag

There is a very long thread form a couple of years ago where the devs and players discussed way to resolve this. the idea of having a client side cache of the items was looked at as part of this thread. Since CCP have not implemented it they must have foreseen a problem. You may want to find the thread and see that CCP said in response to the idea. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |
