I have perfect gun skills, and I'm already using a pulsepoc to run missions where EM does good damage. I'm about to get a Nightmare, and maybe train Amarr BS V for the Paladin. I cross trained from Caldari, so I have Caldari BS 5, and currently use a Golem for Angel/Gurista missions.
I'm wondering how effective the NM or Pally is at replacing the Golem. I love how lasers just melt all the frigs and cruisers fast as I can activate the guns, and it'll save me ammo costs as well. I'm just not sure if doing EM and thermal damage in missions against BS rats like Guristas and Angels is going to be worth the tradeoff of killing small stuff faster.

I've been using my NM to against other types of rats recently just to see. It basically annihilates everything out there. The exception being Angels, which I did notice a fairly big dip in performance.
As for its performance toe to toe with a Golem vs Guristas or something I couldn't say as I dont fly the Golem. However it's effective enough I've basically moth balled my missile boat except when I get AE or something.

that's really a personal preferance according to what mission comes up and how you decided to run it. for instance, in "The assult" guristas, I love fitting a sebo to get that little xtra targeting range, loading up my tach NM w/standard ammo and blitzing it. those longer range rats die soo much faster than had you use a torp golem or cruise cnr.
you know yourself as you're skilled with both ships which works best at sniping many frigs and cruisers.
so, I would say it's situational. you souldn't bring a lazer boat to run guristas extravaganza. but, a mega pulse nm works fairly well in the angels extra mish, just like other close range angel missions like damsel.

I'd use the nightmare/pally for, blood/sansha/drones/mercs/EOM/The Assault, and the golem for Gruistas/Angels/Serp
why replace when you can have both?

The paladin is no where near the nightmare in terms of melting everything. If you just want to kill and not loot the nightmare is much better.
Guristas keep there distance which makes them great for the nightmare's tachs.
Angels are a royal pain in the nightmare. Low damage and when they get close you begin to miss (i've got 2 faction tracking enhancers and the 5% implant for .0300 tracking) a noticeable amount. Angels you might be better off in a paladin with megapulse for the up close tracking but the golem would beat either by a mile.

I always see a noticeable performance drop against Angels on every ship I've ever used against them. Even their BS move fast enough to mitigate some damage from torps while painted, and their resists are more varied and generally higher than other rats. Given how they like to get extremely close and cause tracking problems, I'm thinking you could solve that on the NM by refitting to pulses.
And yeah, I'm just looking for pure killing power. I do loot and salvage, but even with the Golem, I'd rather just do 2 hours of missions and then go salvage my bookmarks. It sounded great on paper when I first got the thing, but I find it annoying trying to keep track of what needs to be looted while simultaneously managing targets, tank, ammo, etc. Even when I do bother, I usually can't keep up with how fast the stuff dies, and end up having to sit there for 5-10 minutes in every pocket, cleaning up with only 3 slots worth of salvage gear.

That's pretty much why I don't care for getting a marauder and I never had to fly one to figure that out, lol. Just the idea of it made me go, 'meh'. I love my Nightmare, it works pretty good vs Guristas as long as you're using a high therm crystal, like multi's.
For Angels though, I keep a Maelstrom around.
And Damsel is Mercs :P

Well, like I said, it sounded good on paper. I think it actually would be great if I had Salvage V, but I won't be training that for months. I've actually been using my Golem as a full fledged salvage ship. A couple of nanofibers and a SB with a res script, and it's as fast as a BC, but with twice the cargo space, and 40km tractors.

I'm tempted to fit rigs to it like this, but that feels kinda like wiping my ass with $100 bills.
