Edited by: SwissChris1 on 13/10/2010 08:32:09 Too bad you posted with an alt, I am curious to find out the name of this "expert PVP corp" that thinks the drake is the third worst ship in the game...you should probably switch corporations ASAP
edit: I understand where you're coming from though...I'm a Caldari pilot as well and I have to take so much crap for flying this race. The more I PVP in these ships though the more I feel comfortable that Caldari isn't just a fail race

Originally by: Verizon Installer i was to be flying the drake and rooks ships last year but gotten in new group of expert pvp pilot and they told me how caldari cannot be used for pvp and how terrible caldari ships is like drake being 3rd worst ship in entire game and rook not good for undocking.
i can still run the missions with them since caldari i guess only for missions but need good idea of what race can be used for pvp. now i have to start over so i dont want make any more mistake!!
The best advice I can give you is that the "expert PVP pilots" you fly with are drooling idiots and thus you should leave them (taking as much of their stuff with you as possible) and find people who aren't terrible. The only thing Caldari are lacking in are solo ships, and even then they have some good ones (the drake is one of them).
i think u may be wrong because these are elite top killers in pvp with almost over 75% efficiency kills. i had drake but they killed it and podded me in fleet and told me how caldari cant pvp to come back with pvp ship.
now i try find here better ship and fittings but is proven to me missile and drake cannot pvp already
75% efficiency is laughably bad - I wouldn't listen to anyone who claims authority based on that. The Drake and the Rook are both excellent PvP ships, not to mention that if you can fly a Rook, you can fly a Falcon, which is still the EW ship.
However. They're not applicable to every possible fleet. Caladri ships just dont work in an AHAC gang, for instance - except as support. You can just about get away with a Raven in a RRBS gang, if you fit it properly (2x 1600mm plates 2x EANM, DCU) but it's not great. You do get up to 5 mid slots free for EW though, which is nice, and helps to make up for your weak damage potential, and you can fit 2 remote reps. If you can add the Buzzard and Flycatcher to your repetoire then you're good to go in literally any PvP fleet worth the name. There are never enough dictors or probers, and for these roles, race really doesn't matter that much.
Caldari ships generally suck at some roles, and excel in others. That's EVE, and no race is excluded from this. In the end, my advice is not to specialise in any one race, but to specialise in the class of ships you enjoy.

Just fly in shield fleets, why would you put armor on your raven? That is just ******ed.

Nice fits, I think that's a bit overboard on painters though, you only need a couple in your gang, a few tracking disruptors would be very welcome.

Well yeah if you're the only raven in fleet, you gotta bring your own TPs. Otherwise sure, there's plenty of spare CPU for sensor damps, tracking disruptors, whatever. But I would always fit at least one, because hey, people get popped, modules get stuck in lag, people mess about and dont TP the primary etc etc.
Also, nothing helps with shooting those pesky logistics ships like having 6 Target Painter IIs on them* - every precious meter of sig radius you can put on them is an invaluable damage boost when most of the DPS is coming from BS.
*As I know to my cost.

The Rohk is an excellent PVP ship. It does well in fleet. It does well in solo PVP. i would suggest you find a better group of "expert pvpers". They don't know ****. Raven, Rohk, Drake all excellent PVP ships. Some ships are better in fleets than solo, but either way definitely not anywhere close to useless.

Caldari do have some solid PVP ships. Their main issue is that they were designed to perform a role that works better in larger size gangs (which is hitting from range). Their dedicated ECM ships are excellent addition to any gangs, but aside from that, they are outperformed by the other races in solo/small gang warfare. Just recognize their strengths. In a Caldari ship you don't ever want to get close enough to worry about having to tackle your own target.

yes i was killed and podded for bringing caldari ship drake to fleet. i lost all my +3 implant plus missile hardwires but this was a valuable lesson to not use caldari because they cannot be used in the pvp. i now know to do same thing to other people who bring caldari pve race ships. i already show these are elite pvpers so they doing right thing
i advice u to train gallente too

Yes, the OP is a troll, but...
With the exception of a couple ECM ships there is always a better choice than Caldari for your PvP ship. And even in the case of EW, the other races are effective as well -- in some ways better (ECM only works well on dedicated EW hulls while other forms of EW work well fitted to anything).

PVE needs removed from game. EVE is pvp only game and caldari cannot be used.

You're obviously trolling, but regardless I'll bite as I don't like people posting miss-information in a forum where new players come to learn PvP.
Drake is probably the hardiest battle-cruiser in a proper PvP configuration. It has more than double the effective hitpoints of the average Deimos fitting, and is only short on Deimos DPS by about 200~ or so. 500+~ versus around 700-~. It also has almost 10x the engagement range of the Deimos, is far more cost efficient, Doesn't die in a fire to any ship with kiting ability, doesn't die in a fire to any frigate with an afterburner and enough EHP to kill drones. The Drake is simply far more cost efficient, far more versatile, and much more options to disengage than the Deimos does, since it can kite in disruptor range and has more EHP to deaggro.
AML Caracal, Drake, Ferox, Rook, Moa, Merlin, Onyx, Cerberus, Tengu, Raven and Rokh can all solo, and can solo effectively. ---

Edited by: Joe Censored on 19/10/2010 00:55:46 Caldari have the two best recons in the game (Rook/Falcon) and one of the better BC's (Drake). All their BS's are good when not in RR armor gangs. Tengu is one of the better T3's in the game for PVP.
Caldari are weak on sniper HACs (Cerb is excellent but flight time is an issue, and the Eagle isn't at the Zealot level), and solo pvping isn't a strong point.
So it isn't that they suck at PVP, you will just suck at PVP if you think you can fly them like Minmatar or Amarr without changing your tactics.

No caldari are probably one of the better races to choose as a new character, as the flying style is easy and once your in a drake, you have a ship that will always get use.
I would say gallente or minmatar were the two worst to train for as a new player.
Gallente because hybrids arent great and manual piloting is needed with a few ships to get into range, and minmatar because kiting is fairly difficult, one mistake and you will either lose the kill (end up outside point range), cap yourself out from leaving your mwd on, or get scrammed (which generally means death).
