Well my main works for Republic Security Services, which is a Minmatar company. I have trained for the Harpy and ramping up my hybrid skills so I really would like to give the Harpy a try. Thanks.

I have fought one of these things, and believe me, they are scary. He tanked My Malediction + my corpmates rupture AND my other corp m8's Crow!!
Eventually got back at him once he had killed my Malediction. Came back in a Vengeance + a Harpy with the same setup and beat him.

Well this is the set-up Im goona put on my harpy once I get it: (This is for PVE) High: 4 125mm II, Arbalest Standard (with what ever type missile is app) Med: 1m AB II, Small Shield Booster II, Passive/Active Hardner (dont have ne uber cap skils to probably be the passive one) and Cap Recharger 1 (wud like tech 2 but the prices put me off incase i lose the ship) Low 2 Mag Stab II
Now I want to get the Gistii Ab and SB but i thought i should do the relevant skills in shield/cap/gunnery/navigation first quite high before i risk more expensive items.
Anyway how will this ship fare in PVE such as level 3 missions or deadspacing

With that setup you'll probably do really well on most lvl 3 missions. I love doing lvl 3s with a af its fun to watch the other larger ships blow up while they do crap damage to you. I have done most all of them with a similar setup to that. If you find yourself taking a lot of damage then switch out to defenders, but for most any lvl three you should be ok.
However dont get*****y due to the ease of lvl 3s with a harpy and try lvl 4s immediately. My friend and i wanted to try lvl fours with 2 afs and we almost got our asses handed to us. It was the new damsel mission with the four mercenary 30k frig npcs....wow...those things are ridiculously hard. I was almost completely out of armor on the enyo and barely made it out, as they scramble and hit like crazy. They were hitting for 30-50 damage on the enyo. Lucky my friend had a harpy there too to help polish em off. Have since tried other lvl 4s with harpy and enyo and some are doable, usually take a pal or two though if we want to do a 4 with afs..helps make it possible or faster.

My setup is:
High:
4x 125mm t2 /am 1x te-2100 /whatever suits me best for the moment
Med:
1x 1mn AB II 1x sm Shield Boost II 1x named active hardener of choise, mostly em 1x F-b10 cap recharger / cap recharger II
Low:
1x PDU II 1x Mag Field Stab II
Think it looks like a decent setup, but my tank is not very good, and damage is horrible, what should I do/change? Going to buy a gistii shield boost soon, but that wont increase my damage, my gunnery skills are pretty ok, mostly lvl 4, some lvl3... I get some real good hits sometimes, but that's 1 out of 30 shots, would prefer 20-25 out of 30... anyways I do 140+ at this lucky moments :)
Any good hints for what I can do about this?

Seems all our setups are pretty much the same I love the ship. Train your skills so you can have double T2 damage mods in lows, it is worth it. I use a passive t2 hardener for EM to save cap.

Its really a shame most of the setups are nearly identical, but the ship dosen't really have a fitting layout for a new abstract setup

High: 4x150mm Protos 1xArbalest Std/Rocket(defenders for bad BS spawn) Medium: 1xGistii Small Sheild booster 1xGistii 1MN Afterburner 2xCap Recharger II (can leave sheild booster on non stop with guns and ab on ) Low: 2xPower Diagnostic II or 2x tech2 damage modifiers
Works like a dream... the gistii booster is the best thing out there for a af... works very nice. Worth the investment getting top of the line AF gear

Edited by: Andrew Redburn on 21/07/2005 08:26:45 Edited by: Andrew Redburn on 21/07/2005 08:26:30 Right now I use for PvP and NPCing:
4 * 150mm II 1 * Rocket Launcher with defenders or rockets
1 * Gist Shield Booster 1 * named AB or Tech II (if u can fit it with everything else) 1 * named EM Hardener 1 * named Webber (works like a charm against close intys and at long range u kill them anyway)
1 * Dmg Mod II 1 * OD I or if enough CPU/PG left low slot tracking or 2nd dmg mod
I got close to 600m/s with no sig penality which means I am hit quit hard and dmg of missles is greatly reduced as well. Tanking with the gist is just plain great and u can run everything almost forever (of course with maxed skills in any cap related fields).
actually if one is reading this thread some things are obvious: 1.) get a gist shield booster 2.) use AB and by no means MWD 3.) one dmg mod or more is most times recommended 4.) defenders are most times recommended
the rest depends on purpose and situation.

Signed... i actually started to use a setup like this not long ago... it rocks!
I say go for 4x150mm II forget the tracking of 125's... harpy has a 20% range bonus per skill level and you don't need that much tracking at 20km do you?

I saw a reply earlier where someone fitted neutron blasters on the Harpy. I think this is a good idea for those lvl 3 missions where you will have drones or inties which commonly close to less than 5k or so.
I have four proto 125s and I have always enjoyed them. However, I really like the blasters' higher tracking and damage modifier. Rate of fire is about the same.
Anyone else a fan of blasters on the Harpy??
P.S. I have also used blasters on an Eagle with great success(for PvE, of course). Very fun.

In most cases recharge is better than capacity. Unless someone wants to prove me wrong with the math. Slightly off topic, but... I love the similarities to the Enyo...
Enyo just has 2 Mids and 4 lows, rather than the other way around. Whats the shield hp total with max skills?
I get 300 shield and 750 armor with my current skills. Does the Harpy get something similar, like say 750 Shield and 300 armor?
Its a shame there isn't a decent named small armor rep that works as well as the Gistii SB...
Anyone think the Gisti AB would be worth it for an Enyo instead of the AB II, or is the cost prohibitive for that module? =============================================== The Nest

here is my PvE setup - this soloes all guristas lvl3s i have tried (ent been offered an extrav yet) with complete ease
4 x 150mm Railgun II (antimatter, optimal 20km) 1 x Arby Rocket
Gistii A-type shield booster (i paid 50mil for this - i woulda paid 80 happily) Shield hardener (kinetic for guristas) 1MN ABII Cap charger (fixed-link - ent got CPU for t2, didn't have an fb10 in hangar at the time)
t2 Mag field stabiliser (dmg mod) t2 tracking enhancer
This works beatifully - i use it for low sec ratting (ent taken it to 0.0), lvl3 missions and as the tank in level4 missions (it can take down a dread pith destroyer if u give it enough time and a few thousand antimatter )
i am considering fitting 125mms, and switching the tracking enhancer for another dmg mod, and adding a standard launcher instead of the rocket.

Edited by: Khristopher on 27/08/2005 08:07:50 I use:
4x 125mm II Arb Standard Launcher AB t2 Small Shield Boster t2 named active EM shield hard (only switch it on when needed) Named Cap Recharger (need to buy a t2) 2x t2 dmg mods
Can handle any lvl 3 mission (Caldari Navy and Mordu's Legion) including those angel/merc/drone missions. I can also kill gurista BS rats in 0.0 belts (biggest I've tried so far in it was a 750k rat with cruiser/frig escort). I'm sure with a gistii booster and more expensive gear it could handle even more as far as 0.0 belt hunting.

The beauty of cap batteries is they add capacity and as a side effect of that, more recharge as well.
Some quick numbers, with both cap skills at lv4.
With a t2 small cap battery, you have 430cap and 120regen, giving 3.5cap/sec base regen. With a t2 cap recharger, you have 330cap and 96regen, giving 3.4cap/sec base regen.
I've run a few other comparisons (t1, best named, etc) against each other and the small cap battery wins every time. The only problem is fitting, but its very viable in many setups.

Small Gistii vs. Medium Gistum SB
Is everyone using the Small Gisti SB because the medium still uses too much cap and/or gimps your fittings? Or is the medium even better but too expensive for most peeps?

That.. and they also dont drop. (Well, if they do, they're reeeeaaaallly rare)
And SB = shield booster, smartbomb, sensorbooster.. tis annoying. In this case, its shield booster.

Medium Tech II cost: 2-3m Gistii A-type cost: 50-60m :)
While the medium tech 2 does provide a few more shields per sec (30 vs 28.5, as you see the difference is very small) it's the cap cost that matters. A medium II uses 20 cap per sec, a gistii just 6.5.
If you have good cap skills you can leave the gistii running 24/7 while the medium II would dry out you cap in just a few boosts. This constant boost is what makes it possible to tank just about anything with it. Just today I went afk while tanking the whole guristas extravaganza level 3 bonuse level. Try doing that with a med 2 :)
And fitting matters as well of cource, 21 vs 58 cpu and 2 vs 13 pg.

For COSMOS lvl 3 missions vs. 3x Bandits/Mercenary Wingmen, bosses, assorted cruisers and frigs:
4x 125mm rails, EMP missiles/rockets Shield Booster, 2x Webbers, Kinetic passive hardener 2x Warp core stabs
Don't laugh... three tacklers are bad news. Use T2 mods only if you're 100% sure you'll survive the engagement. Then take them off, because you're probably wrong :)
No need for an AB/MWD when you're webbed three times over. Definate need for 2x WCS so you can warp away if needed after taking down one of the tacklers.
Surviving to be able to later refit the Harpy with T2 rails, mag stabs and ABs, and complete the mission, is well worth it.

I wouldn't call myself an experienced harpy pilot, but I've been flying one for a week or two now, and am quite pleased with it (although the Hawk works equally well, and is quite a bit cheaper).
Imho a gistii shield booster is a bit overkill. Sure it's nice to be able to run the sb pretty much non-stop, but the Harpy has enough shield resistance and agility to allow for quick 'warp out-regen shields-warp back in' tactics. As someone else already suggested above it's cheaper to invest in some damage/shield boosting implants.
I can do most lvl 3 mission solo in a harpy using the following setup:
Hi; 4x 125mm rails 1x arbalest std launcher
Med; 1x small SB II 1x active shield hardener (usually EM) 1x tracking comp II 1x afterburner II
low; 1x PDU II 1x heat sink II
If you insist on doing lvl4 missions and/or BS spawns in your Harpy, then yes, you'll probably need one of them gistii shield boosters. ---

Edited by: Spoony on 04/10/2005 13:38:54 NPC setup 4 125 II railguns (AM charges) 1 Standard Missile Launcher (best named) with racial missiles, em for guristus etc.
1 1mn AB II 1 Small shield Booster II 1 Target Painter II 1 Named Web
2 Mag Field Stab II's
That will be able to solo any BS spawn with or without inties, TP and web them, can handle the 750k Guristu BS, takes a while to break its tank though. Start on the intys (as ther the only things able to hit ya :P) then cruisers to BS.

Thats what I did, and now my Enyo tanks better, and since I use 2* PDUII in low I can use neutron blasters instead of ion blasters, increasing my damage as well.
I love blasters, so if/when I get an Harpy I will equipp it something like this: High: 4 * Neutron, 7.5km nos Mid: gisti AB, gisti SB, webifier, cap recharger II Low: Tracking mod, Mag Stab
With iron and this setup, you will be able to hit frigates 8km away, you will tank well and do some icky damage up close with antimatter. And you will never run out of cap with the nos and decent skills.
