Edited by: UberHaqer on 13/10/2010 00:36:13 Hey.
I have been creating a management tool over the last 8 or 9 months. i created this so i could keep a log of my character changes, skillpoint changes, skills added, level changes, sell and buy transactions. you can also view all your transactions and they are searchable as well, all different types of activities are displayed on the sidebar. It was intended purely for personal use but it has got to a point that it might be a useful tool for other people.
it's all written in ruby on rails.
here is some screenshot of it, check them out
Screens
I will be releasing it in around 2 weeks but looking for some people to test it at the moment and hunt out bugs. if you are interested then drop me an email on

I've definitely been waiting for someone to do this properly. Looks great, keep at it. What you really need is a solid skill/character planner, then I would play with this quite a bit while at work.
Cheers. |

Skill planner has been in the works for a month or so. I moved to rails purely to help in the development of a skill planner. I tried using pure PHP and got really annoyed with it but since I starting developing it with rails its been very easy using nested sets etc. Hopefully, in between real life work, I will be able to get the skill planner pushed out 2/3 weeks after I have released the initial version 1000101 1000101 1000110 |

I will be releasing the source code eventually.
I have a lot of refactoring to do and write tests for any code that I haven't covered but once its in a stable condition ill stick the git repo online to be pulled.

I have an SSL certificate being processed for evecert.com which should make things more secure.
No one has access to the database where api keys are stores, except for me (the dev) and I do not have any interest in them. I certainly would not share them with anyone in any shape or form either.
Other than that its safe to enter your full API.

I love the idea and layout. Though I signed up (as this name) and "My Account" doesn't work.
That said, I've started one recently, too. (Though I've only just created the github repo and started installing eve api gems. Both eve-api and eve are ones I'm trying out.) ( https://github.com/sinisterchipmunk/eve )
Though, I really like your stuff. Do you have any plans for a mobile-phone based front end? Just CSS for smaller devices? That's where I really want to do my looking, so that's why I started my own project. But if you're doing it, I'll help you where I can.

Cheers for letting me know about the "My Account" issue you just had, caught it in the logs and fixed a bug.
I have also tried the gems that you talked about but didn't provide all of the functionality I was after, I ended up writing my own Eve API library, I used nokogiri for parsing the XML and mongoDB for caching, worked out nicely, once I have refactored it I will probably release it open source in the future.
I have plans for making the UI compatible with mobile browsers, I will be doing this nearer the end of development and also making it work for IE, it doesn't really work in IE. I also have plans for writing native iPhone and Android applications which use data provided by EveCert but this will after I have completed the site but the main thing I am working on at the moment is a decent skill planner as I have not seen any good web based ones.

Nice! I'll be watching this. I'm going to tinker with an app out on Heroku and use iphone client side DB stuff to see if I can get the users phones to store the data so "I" dont have to store anything. Ruby rules. Anyway, grats on the clean and smooth application. Your UI rocks!

I will release the source code when it's better. I have been taking a test first approach using rSpec, which keeps bugs at bay, well, most of them . When I do decide to release the source code it will all covered by specs and should be fairly easy to expand on.

Just a note for people using this application, with the patch today and the removal of learning skills EveCert will probably be down for a couple of hours while I deploy new code for training time calculations and changes to the database.

Looks good, though I seem to be getting a 404 error when attempting to retrieve my character.
I can enter my API key and select the character to import, but when I click add I get the "The page you were looking for doesn't exist.
You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved. "
URL is http://www.evecert.com/characters/retrieve_characters

Cheers for reporting that. I need to get hold of the new database it seems. Temporarily I will put a patch on to stop the application from throwing an error.
Thanks again for reporting this.

I have added the ORE industrial skill to the database, unfortunately I have not added the Noctis item to the database yet, I will add this when CCP release the database dump. Hopefully soon. Otherwise it should be up and running again.

I had a few emails about the assets viewer throwing errors. I had a look at this and it was due to the ship information about the Noctis not being present in the database. I have added this information manually from the static data extracted from the client, it should now show in the assets viewer ok.
It is also in available in the item browser and shows the skill prerequisites and training time for your characters. You have to search for it with the search field as it belongs to a market group which will not be available until CCP release the proper data dump.

I have thought about that yea
At the moment though I am the only person developing the application and I am working on a decent skill planner, it is about 50% done. Once I have finished developing the planner I will maybe move onto a fitting tool 1000101 1000101 1000110 |

Had more emails today about errors, this was due to learning skills removal, I have applied a patch to the app so it is not throwing errors due to learning skills being removed, it now shows the proper sp/h.
Also had a few questions about the skill planner, it is 95% complete and I will be releasing the first verison on saturday for testing, I will post a couple of screenshots tonight to show what it is like. Anyone using this app update your characters

I thought I would make a video of the skill planner to get some feedback on it. It is pretty much finished and I am testing it and putting it threw its paces. Everything seems in order. When adding skills etc its a little slow because its running locally in development mode, it much quicker on production. It pretty much a straight forward planner, but in the browser which means you can view your plans anywhere, I have not seen done decently in the past either.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHGcc0Bcej8
I will be putting it online for people to use tomorrow night. Let me know what you think.
