Why should i stick to Eve instead of WoW? anyone? WoW -Teambased, less/no lagg, no grinding forever to get new stuff cause you just got ganked by 100 others. Eve -"teambased", lagg, its all a big grind..

Well, the loss of gear is a good thing. It stops everyone pvping in "epic gear" since you can lose it easily, adds some economy.
Otherwise - best pvp around. That's why you play eve.
The main downside? CCP are horrible at game balance, leaving ships in complete uselesness for years before buffing them, making gameplay kind of monotonous.

Wow - Kids cartoon game, no thought required, repetative, its all a big grind, there are virtually no difference between chars of the same class except armour, the World is small, if you want to do end game content you have to play for hours every night and join up with loads of people you cant stand just to get stuff, Pvp is poor and players can have no effect on the game envoironment, crappy leveling mechanics and almost everything is instanced.
EVE - Adults game where alot of thought is required, huge map, lots of different things to do, constantly evolving market backed up with a good industry system, no two players are the same, PVP require alot of thought and skill, your char is always improving and you get to choose how he improves, your actions have the possibility to affect the game world and there is a penalty for losses that makes you want to improve for the next time.

EVE is the only MMO with a real working market, its pvp system does not get old like all of the other arena/run in a faceroll keyboard clones and there is risk to doing things.
Most importantly EVE offers freedom.

WoW to me is too ****** friendly and players are too insulated from each other. This leads to so limited MMO, that I just can't stand it. It might have less/no lagg, but the size and complexity of it all looks miniscule compared to EVE. Sure the single shard gameworld causes it's share of issues, but I'll take them anyday over that sharded, instanced and child proofed nonsense. But to each his own, so play what you enjoy the most.

WoW teambased? Are you kidding me? The heroic raids may require some form of team based gameplay but everything else is simply tank and spank. With the new dungeon tool (which is not bad by its own merits) the only conversation you may get is "lol you're only 3000 gs you can't do utgard keep heroic" About the grind - there is only two kinds of grind in wow. First the quest grind until 80 where you do indistinguishable quests one after the other and after that it's the dungeon grind where you do the same heroic dungeons over and over for a month or two at which point you've gotten the best possible gear besides the newest tier of raid and the only thing left to do is go one night a week on this said raid. And unless your guild is full of brainless idiots you'll be done with this raid in a couple of months at most. And after that it's a long wait for next raid which is basically the same as the ones before. And to top it all - there's no incentive whatsoever to be playing well. You can't ever losing anything and as long as you overgear the encounter you can literally faceroll it and still beat it. About the lag - you haven't played during the first months after the introduction of wintergrasp I take it?

cuz I played the fantasy dragons and magic and whatnot mmos for 4 years before I started eve, and I figure I'll probably play them in another few years when I get somewhat bored with eve. WoT took me for one hell of a ride over summer, played that hardcore for like a month, but now I'm back to eve.
but also in wow things I do don't really affect other players, and well I like blowing stuff up and having it actually blow up.

You really can not see teh difference in EVE and WOW?
Let my make it easy:
WOW: Blizzard holds you hand and gives you everything, with no risk, forever. Nothing you do affects anything in game or for other playes. EVE: CCP gives you some tools and tell you to make your own destiny. There is always risk and what you do actually affects the game and its players.
Based your your thoughtless post I suspect you have only ever done PVE. As such the best thing for you might be a singleplayer RPG. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edited by: Jennifer Starling on 13/10/2010 13:46:37 + for WoW balanced PvP fights when you want it get the skill or gear you want within a few months 50 character slots PvE more team based - for WoW all your accomplishements are worthless at the next expansion limited storage 90% of the world is useless once you've "outlevelled" it
+ for EVE unlimited storage space economy is the best in a game ever losing stuff in fights is more exciting prettier graphics players can occupy parts of the world - for EVE everything takes incredibly long: skilltraining, travel, finding fights etc lacks incarna unchallenging PvE can only train 1 character PvP more about numbers than about player skill
Originally by: Brian Ballsack Wow - its all a big grind, there are virtually no difference between chars of the same class
No, Drake blobs are non-existent in EVE and all the ships are very different, you can even customize the looks?!? And WoW is no bigger grind than EVE, in both games people basically grind their standings and money, be it in L4s or dungeons or whatever.

Yeah but you can actually do something else in eve besides non-consequential, extremely small scale pvp where everyone has either the same gear or has so much better gear that skill is irrelevant, and grinding dungeons. WoW is simply a gear grind. There isn't anything else to do. Whether it's pvp grind in the arena or pve grind in the dungeons it's still a grind towards the new tier of gear. Which consequently divides the players between those that have the newest gear and those that don't.

I agree that there's not that much to do in terms of progression once you get your best gear and end-game is always the Achilleus' heel of any game, only you reach it sooner in WoW.
I definitely don't agree on PvP, I've had a lot more fun in very long and close fights where the final outcome is actually determined by teamwork and individual player skill and not numbers and/or gear difference. In EVE, PvP isn't any fun at all in 95% of the cases and it takes so loooooong to actually find a challenging fight.

Choose EVE. Choose a capsuleer. Choose a career. Choose a ship. Choose a ****ing big ship, choose tachyon beams, smartbombs, drones and energized nano membranes. Choose insurance, up to date clone, and attribute implants. Choose corporations with low tax. Choose an alliance. Choose your friends. Choose your target and matching killmail. Choose a wormhole in some far of place in the middle of ****ing nowhere. Choose asteroids and wondering why the **** you are shooting them. Choose the satisfaction of tears, the thrill of the hunt, long training queues, spies, exotic dancers and little red boxes.
Choose your destiny.

You say this is a downside of Eve, when compared to WoW:
Originally by: Jennifer Starling can only train 1 character
This is the same in Eve as it is in Wow. Given that your character in WoW only gets any better while you're playing it, and you can only play one at a time, you can only level one at a time.
In fact, in Eve its EASIER to train more than one character at a time, because you can buy multiple accounts and set them all training. In WoW you would have to try and play more than one account at a time, which would be considerably more difficult.

Hmm, let's see...
WoW : a place where you have to grind, grind and grind some more for better gear each expansion, just so you can be on a "level" with all the countless others that did so on that particular server. And... yeah, well, that's pretty much it.
EVE : a place where you can use your brains to get much more with far less "physical" effort than any of the hardcore grinders if you're good enough, where every action you take can potentially have consequences (no matter how small) for EVERYBODY ELSE that plays the game, because it's all in a single game universe. But yeah, that's also pretty much it.
Granted, I don't do "physical" PvP much, mostly just economic PvP, so WoW has nothing to offer to me. I don't know about you, but I see absolutely no reason to bother with WoW at all. I guess it's a matter of taste. Mine goes fully towards EVE. Plus, I don't even have to pay RL cash to play it. Oh, and there's nothing else comparable on the market anyway.

Yes so another disadvantage would be double/triple subscription?
As I said before, training in EVE: training in other games = like welfare : work; you don't have to do anything for it but subsequently you get very little in comparison.

WoW's strengths: -- Easily accessible content -- Pacing driven by player effort, not real time -- Gear sticks, so you only have to earn/buy it once
WoW's weaknesses: -- Strong dependence on PvE and cooperative content -- Low barrier to entry means you have to put up with new folk even at high levels/gear score
Eve's Strengths: -- Sci-fi setting, so that's different -- Everything becomes PvP eventually -- Destructibility leads to a much more robust economy and a varied environment
Eve's weaknesses: -- Adversarial nature of the game means you're surrounded by douchebags all the time -- Real-time advancement pacing makes our equivalent of gearscore differential insurmountable ---

This pretty much sums it up. What i also like about eve is that you keep training your character even when you are not online.

As a former WOW PVP player this is the reason i changed to EVE.
Wow is a great game, it is relatively balanced, and newbie friendly(this is not a bad thing, MMOs need a constant flow of new players to thrive). And unlike what some people say, WOW arenas require skill and teamwork not just gear.
Yes, many players end up with the same gear as another so without skill and teamwork you cant do **** in arenas.
But however, arenas are the only place you can actually get some PVP and I like griefing people so when they implemented flying mounts and i couldnt spawncamp people for 2hours i started losing interest.
And watching people cry when they lose expensive **** is so much better than just spawncamping.
