I'll reply to your post-edit suggestion of LP for training multipliers, even though pre-edit you were suggesting it could be done for real money.
The LP stores *do* sell training multipliers. They're called attribute implants. Do a search on the market for "- standard" or "- improved". |

Edited by: Azemar on 19/10/2010 04:41:27 again, you know what i mean. By the way i said various times that i admitted i was wrong about that, so thats irrelevant now. gah this is impossible lol. i mean actually selling multipliers that are based off attributes and go on for a set amount of SP, within 1-1.5x. man the arrogance of the community is astounding. of course i know about implants. i have 5 of them, all standard. and all my learning skills level 4. so please don't troll and post things that aren't relevant to the topic. so far no one has come forth with a solid argument with the cons of turning in LP for multipliers based off current attributes.

I think a better way would be to give people a bonus at certain milestones of subscription time. At 3 months in, they could get x2 for 2 weeks. Same for 6, 9 and 12 months. They'd get 8 extra weeks of training. They could lower the bonus for further milestones to actually lower the gap rather than shift it over a bit. For year 2, they might get 4 bonus weeks. The numbers are just an idea and could be adjusted to whatever would be appropriate.
This way there's no buying skill points. There's no instant SP for new pilots (aside from the starting bonuses already there). They're bonus SP for time spent which works with the 'time for skills points' philosophy already in place.
But, i doubt this would have any influence on new pilots continuining their subs if they already feel they can't ever catch up and compete. Doubt anything would change that type of person's mind. But for the rational new guy, it's a nice reward.

unlike the crowd of rich kid haters, I actually support the idea of faster training (not instant SP increase), as long it is quite expensive. My rule of thumb is that accelerator, that increases training speed x1.3 (i.e. 30% faster than normal) for a month should cost 1 plex. This way one may choose to train and play 2 accs or 1 but faster, getting just 1/3 more SP per month but not getting additional play time.

OK, for the record... Just the MERE FACT of the mind set of "Give us a way to CATCH UP", is just WRONG. This is not WOW. It will not happen that way. You want to increase your training speed, buy improved implants OR better yet, push CCP to get those elite implants out there.
But, as another person stated, give a bonus for time played. Well, that does ZERO to "help catch up". Why you ask? Because CCP is going to retro assign SP to those of us that hav3e been here for, oh say since 2003. Hrmmm... Come to think of it. YES CCPP, PLEASE do this type of bonus SP for time spent in game.
I think my main would have around, oh say.... 20M EXTRA SP to assign after that retro assignment.
It's happened twice before. They made a change that caused more SP for new people and we got 100k bonus SP.
It would be the same thing but this time, in line of MILLIONS of SP...
You want x1.5 training multiplier, go play WOW.
nuf said.

i do really like the time idea. but in defense of mine, buying them using LP would also be a way for only characters who have been here a while to get them. they would easily be 30,000 at least

COuld jsut buy the performance implants with you lps...almost the same thing. Got skill you really don't want to 5, buy a 3% ability implant cheaper in the lp store.
Go for broke....hg sets like snake, crystal, etc. +3 stats...insane boosts, very sexy.

Using LP instead of isk forces everyone to be a massive care bear and grind missions in empire.
Your casual players will go, hold on a minute I want to train faster to! Then you will see less miners, builders etc in empire. Which would also mean a slow down in the amount of mineral flow, reduction in cost for all meta 4's, increase in price for everything else in lp store - which further makes more people do it.
Basically it would ruin the game with mineral prices increasing - again. Until everything crashed because everyone could make quick money on lp.
Implants are enough of a skillboost, and thats because you lose the boost when you die.

Micro transactions suck. They ruin any game they are part of. The day you can buy SP is the day Eve dies.

Like you may have faction ship w/o mission grinding, you would be able to buy 'SP booster' in the same way. And it is indifferent, whether it can be bought for plex or isk, as you may exchange them both ways freely.

They're not going to do it bud. Your money now is not worth as much to them as your money over time. Games failcascade, just like alliances do. Once the subscriber numbers start to fall, it's downhill from there.
It's in CCPs interest to keep you playing for a long time. Their training system is probably one of the reasons that this game increases in subscribers year after year.
