Signed, but I do think the old name should appear somewhere in your character's info.

I actually support this so long as the name is logged. While I would not use it, it would be nice for some of the really odd/video game reference names to be changed to something more fitting.

NO --------------------------------------------------------------------
I would totally trade the character avatar remake for new ship models CCP is really turning into WOW fast and ignoring its roots and focusing on silly mmo aspects.
This will never be a mainstream game with 5 million subscribers unless your going to have us shoot boars in the woods for XP so GETS the Hell over it CCP
Scrap this stupid Character revamp whats it for a prelude to walking in stations agian GMFB WTF do we need any of that for ?
New Ship models and fixes now XOXOXOXO |

Aegis hasn't played for like 4 years. Aegix hasn't played for like 4 years. Aegixx hasn't played for like 4 years. DarkAegis hasn't played for like 4 years.
Why should I be DarkAegix, when other names are completely inactive?

Originally by: Saint Evonivon EVE is not like other mmo's where you can just spend a few months grinding up a new character if you want to redo it. You are stuck forever with the name, .... I know many out there including myself have a toon that really needs a name we enjoy.
Actions have consequences in this game and it should stay that way.
I have a terrible name because I thought I'd make a trial account for some kicks rather than resubbing fully to eve then got horribly hooked and now have this daft name. Nonetheless its a name with a reputation for better or for worse and if everyone could rename their characters it would utterly devalue the permanency that is this beautiful, messy, one sharded mmo ♥
i have to agree with the spank, i mean i have done some terrible things in game and spammed the hell out of this forum one time ago but it goes against the fabric fundamental core of the game that cause and effect, action and reaction is what this game is and your name is on both through the duration of this game.

So come incwhatevers when you get to redo you're avatar (Oh the unending joy that'll be 15 min of mild annoyance), you also want to be able to change your name?
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you've ****ed some one or some group of people off and they keep chasing after you? That or you've played alot of wow and change your name on a weekly basis?
Either way, eve is alot more perminant, that's the point, you do something stupid\brilliant and you're name is stuck with that action for as long as people recall.
Being able to trawl through someones employment history\sec status would tell you very little about who that player is other than that they've shot at some stuff or they've bounced between a number of corps(all of which wouldn't know who the player was because of the name change)
Plus.... I do stupid stuff... I kinda want people to remember the stupid stuff I do and mock me for it :D --
Nothing is worthless, you may have gotten it for free but it still has an inherent value

And even if it was, it would end up to be a nightmare for all killboards, 1 character ID (that should be unique and linked to a unique character name) become 2 different character names or more linked to the same character ID, oh well it would require a LOT of code rewriting.
Anyway, the idea may be cool, but the problem is always the same, even if your "old names" are listed, it ends up to the point where in eve your name is your identity, get over it, having the "old names" listed is not the same.
If you are known to be a idiot is good that you should carry that name forever.

Personally, I always thought that we should be buying skill sheets that could be implated in the character of our choice. We already have implants so it seems the most logical way that fits right into the story of the game.
I don't mind the idea behind character sales but it's far too easy to abuse it with so little protection on the corp alliance area of the game.
If we could buy skill sheets and implant them with say at a limit to 1 time a year per toon, it would require people to build their identities for trust rather than just buy a new toon to complete a new scam or have a new spy a day after the other is exposed.
It's not that I'm against spying or scamming they are valid forms of play, but it should come with it's consequences. Just as my piracy comes with the consequences of being -10.
Doing it this way would require the identity to be built around the character which couldn't be bought and sold. The major draw back would be not being able to size up a target by it's age.

I love that idea so much more, I brought up a similar thing once but people pew pew'ed it, also thank you for being someone that see's just how much more powerful the character bazaar is over just a simple name change. It's a point I'm trying to get though to CCP. For them to say you can totaly wipe all your history and take on someone else'es history without anyone knowing who you are and having a record that reflects nothing about you is ok, but its not ok to do a simple name change and keep all your history and deeds.

No they have not. Your actions only have consequences if you are lazy, stupid or actually want those consequences. Everyone can just create an alt to do mean or good things or simply create a second account. And the character bazaar makes it ridiculously easy to avoid any unwanted attention.
With alts, second, third or whatever accounts and the possibility to buy and sell characters at will actions have no consequences at all unless you want them.

So basically you want to buy a skillset for money. Microtransactions thread --> that way.
OP: As one of the above posters said, it¦s already too easy to change "identity", and by renaming you make it more easy.
Btw i like the idea that a noob is buying a char at the bazar, not knowing this one is hated by half of new eden, and will be hunted down for ever, sold or not.
Knowing this, will it make much harder or near to impossible to sell the "bad boy". But griefers/scammers/other lowlifes will find a way around it, i¦m sure.
That said, and having a personal list of the "lowlifes" i¦ve met in new eden i don¦t want to update this list every now and than. So no.

Yes, only for minor changes such as correcting a typo or perhaps adding a prefix or suffix to the name. Don't allow anything that does alter the identity of the character otherwise it's just too damn easy to get away with it. If you steer up **** you get to smell that ****, that's a core aspect of this universe.

Hmm let me see ..
Your security status screwed up? You can undo it by ratting! Your faction standing screwed up? You can undo it by missioning! Your ship blew up? You can undo it by making ISK and buying a new one! And oh, you get insurance! Your remaps screwed up? You can undo it by PLEX (soon)! Your character portrait isn't what you envisioned? Remake for $10 or create a new in Incursions. Your character name screwed up? ................. ?

In a world where immortal billionaires can transfer their consciousness between cloned physical shells - forcing people to adhere to a race or bloodline seems utterly ******ed.
Names however. That's something else entirely.

I don't see a reason for changing an active character's name, but it might be an idea to prune trial accounts after a given ammount of time, to free up unused names.

All of the "consequences" based counterarguments in this thread are totally refuted by having the previous, old character name appear somewhere in your character's info. Big and bold. Maybe even right there on the nameplate: "Prince Rogers Nelson, formerly known as Prince".
