No Sh!t, Spock!
ST:O would function just about as well as a single player game with Online Team Deathmatch.
I have my suspicion that it's only called ST:O so they could use Ubisoft's DRM without the backlash.

So the author that doesn't like the science fiction genre writes an article attempting to compare the two "top contenders" in space MMOs? The article series seems like one that's designed just to stir up contraversy and draw attention and impassioned arguments to the site.
Either way, I thought I'd see what the STO community's reaction to the article was, presuming they had noticed it. Sure enough, there was a threadnaught.

The threadnaught is a good read. Makes me want to see the EVE community and STO community face off in an epic space battle.

ST:O would win, all they'd end up doing is modifying the deflector dish to the "win" position.

While they would have a barely organized group of less then 200, A group who doesn't realize that calling primary is the ground floor of fleet ops.

They would just reverse the polarity on a couple of photon torpedoes and destroy the whole fleet.

Edited by: Akita T on 20/10/2010 06:47:01 Now that was a perfectly awful little biased EVE-sugar-coating article. Not that ST:O wasn't presented in a rather mild light, it got far higher marks than it probably deserved. I'd basically halve most of the scores presented there. The ratio still stands though _

The word fair has no place in a competetive business environment like the MMO market. Fair's big brother, realism, also has priority over such fanciful "what if STO could timetravel to the past" -fantasy type comparisons. You compete and are compared to what is actually on the market, and not to how other products happened to be over half a decade ago.

IF EVE payers fought ST:O players, this is why we would win:
1) Their biggest vessel is no bigger than a battleship.
2) They all shield tank, and everyone knows that shield tanking in a fleet is a bad idea...
3) They don't have good logistics.
4) We have capital ships <3

I'm a hardcore Trek fan (seen all the movies and episodes + extras + bla bla bla what more) I was in the closed beta of ST:O and later in open beta of ST:O and it still sucked :'(
Like the link said, ST:O basically a "mod" for champions online. I give it 2/10 ________________________________ ACXtreme @ deviantart |

If we're to believe the people who were playing in 2004, EVE was far better then than it is now. So it would have been even more one-sided.

Sadly I still have about 4 months I have left on the year sub I got to STO before it was even started... Then I found EVE granted I did max out 3 toons before they redid all the crafting stuff makeing it tons easyer. I don't even have STO installed on my computer any more and im up to 3 EVE accounts im never going back and yes EVE vs ST EVE would destory them we would even kill off the Borg

The only reasons for :bittervet: are missiles not having a explosion radius/speed mechanic, lack of stacking penalties, less people and the universe still being new and fresh.

Cant belive there are some sto fan boys saying that STO had more combat depth.
I mean how often are you faced with the fact that you are outnumbered outgunned and caught in surprise and the pernament concequences of losing can mean the end for everything you helped build in the last few months to a few years in sto? As much as i like Eve. If it comes to ship to ship combat Star Trek would win hands down. A stupid Frigate from Star Trek would Roflpwn an Eve Dreadnought. Star Trek technology borders on magic. They moved a friggin MOON with their warp engines, and let's not forget the I win setting on the deflector dish. torpedo that can crack a planet. They've harnessed the power of black holes. And invented some weird red goop they keep in a fancy lava lamp that creates artificial blackholes. One Startrek ship let loose in the eve universe would be like setting loose godzilla on the ancient Romans.
in STO's defense I did like thier ship combat more than eve's it was more indepth. Shields and guns had facings and going behind objects dropped lock and blocked torpedoes. But that's something eve won't have until we are all on fiberoptic networks and the cell processor is standard issue for servers.

I love how the guy says Eve PVE is a bit rubbish, Eve PVP is a bit rubbish, but still gives high scores; then says STO PVE is good, and STO PVP is good, then gives it bad scores.
Reading the article it sounds like he's given the scores the wrong way round.
