While waiting for my friends to log on, one activity I want to do is just mine veldspar while watching TV. But with the "Hulkageddon" thing going on, it makes me wonder if I'm going to have to keep a close eye on anyone in the neighboring vicinity.
I'm aware that I am vulnerable anywhere the moment I click "undock" but it makes me wonder how vulnerable I'll be.
For the record I'm going to be flying a retriever.
Honest answers are appreciated. |

Chances are fairly low but... always mine pointed towards a station. Never mine afk and add some tank to your retriever. You don't need massive amounts of cargo space, just run back and forth to station when you fill up. Do not jet can mine, since people like me will flip it on you (just a heads up). Also, if a few destroyers or a battle cruiser shows up in your belt, you may want to dock. Chances are only dessies and smaller will try to shoot you since it's a waste of isk to use anything bigger on a retriever (though some just do it for the fun of it). fly safe. |

I don't mine AFK. Semi-AFK watching TV, yes. But I will more often than not have my eyes pointed at the screen if for no other reason than to watch my cargohold.
Speaking of, is the retriever/mackinaw cargohold buff serious? That's ****ing crazy. |

In all my time playing EVE, I've suffered from many can flippers when I used to mine in 1.0 space. I was only ever attacked once though, in a Covetor. I walked away for 3 minutes to get a drink, and I came back, and was podded. It doesn't normally happen, but the one time it does will probably be when you least expect it. On the bright side though, they're improving the EHP of Barges/Exhumers. Self Appointed Police of the Character Bazaar

Also depends heavily on what system in hisec you are idling around. In or around a mission hub, a well travelled trade route or a popular mining system near a trade hub, your chances of being attacked increase dramatically. |

Out of curiousity, how do you stay in range of what you're mining if you're aligned? Are you loading your ship down with every speed-decreasing module you can find, and then setting the speed somewhere below the 3/4 you need to warp? Because even with a full bank of expanders and armor rigs a lot of ships wouldn't get in more than a cycle or maybe two before you'd need to turn around and reset your flight path or lose range on your 'roid. What am I missing here?
(Or do you mean sit with your ship facing the station with no speed, i.e. it's _you_ that doesn't understand how alignment works?) |

I'm going with the latter. However, it's still possible to get this to work.
Station ------ belt ------ safespot
slowly align (e.g. 25% speed, or use speed-reducing modules) to the station or the SS, when you get nearly out of range, turn around and align to the other one. |

Don't try to do two things at once. Focus on one brain numbing activity at a time and you'll be able to maybe spark one of those braincells to life when a challenge presents itself. |

An alt in a frigate with three webs. Takes about 15 minutes of training.
Or simply change your alignment when you're getting out of range. |

Just insure your ship. Not that I'm an expert on the topic, but gankers are mostly after the 200+ mil Exhumer hulls that will drop t2 salvage, so few are going to bother for an easily-replaced t1 barge. If you're still concerned you can slap a damage control I on it to make yourself substantially tankier than will be expected, but it shouldn't make too big a difference.

Just to point out - Hulkagedon is just that - mass muder of Hulks.
If you are in any other ship mining, you are safe from suicide Hulkagedonists.
The idea is to grief macro miners, not new players trying to carve their path in EVE. |

Just to point out, this is not, in fact, true.
If you're mining, you're a target. (http://hulkageddon5.machine9.net/?page_id=5)
As for "mining while aligned", please note that the direction your ship is facing at speed 0 has no effect on how fast you'll align to it. Just like after jumping through a stargate, if your speed is 0, you aren't aligned to anything, regardless of what your ship looks like it's pointing at. You will align to something "behind you" just as quickly as you would "in front of you". "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. GǪ" |

Rules
The rules:
For the purposes of all prizes other than the junior league prize, only the following ships count:
Hulk Mackinaw Skiff Orca
You must register an API key on EVE-kill.net which will serve as our killboard for the event this year. Failure to do so, and only posting manually may lead to being disqualified for your prize money.
All running totals are based on killing blows, while we realize this can be a bit random, it is the easiest way to tally kills for us.
For every TEN killing blows on an Exhumer or Orca you score, Goonswarm will automatically receive an internal message to pay you your bounty prize of 100 million isk. Please allow for up to 48hours before payment.
We reserve the right to amend the rules if need be, though we will endeavour to keep things loose and fun.
**********************************
So not really a big deal for new players.
After new patch things might change, but right now ... |
