Edited by: Aragoni on 26/10/2010 15:53:46 Edit: Oh crap. wrong section. Sorry.
Since it's only a few days 'til Halloween I think it's time we recommend scary movies!
Zombies: Dawn Of The Dead Dawn Of The Dead 2004 Day Of The Dead Diary of The Dead 28 Days Later 28 Weeks Later [REC] [REC] 2 Both [REC]-films have English subtitles if you know where to look Dead Set
H.P. Lovecraft: In The Mouth Of Madness The Call Of Cthulhu Dagon Masters Of Horrors episode 'H.P. Lovecraft Dreams In The Witchhouse' Re-Animator I'd recommend that you read all the stories written by H.P. Lovecraft as he is the best writer ever to have walked the earth. The stories can be found here
Stephen King: Pet Semetary IT The Mangler The Mist
Other: Paranormal Activity Nosferatu (A classic from the 1920's!) Shadow Of The Vampire (Watch Nosferatu before watching this one, as Shadow Of The Vampire is about it) House Of 1000 Corpses The Devil's Rejects(A follow-up to House Of 1000 Corpses) The Mothman Prophecies The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Last but not least: Marble Hornets ( http://www.youtube.com/user/MarbleHornets#p/u/28/Wmhfn3mgWUI watch the whole series on youtube. I **** bricks when I think about it )

Wrong section, this should be in out-of-pod.
On that note, take THIS for a suggestion:

Drag Me To Hell = Evil Dead 4? Frozen = anyone who has been stuck on a chairlift for more than 1 minute has thought about this scenario.

^^ Yes this is a good one, I saw it in the late 90's, gonna add to my Netflix.
Alien 3 is another good one. The rest of the trilogy is more action and gore, but part 3 was the scariest one (IMO). It had an eeriness to it.
Transformers 2 was another scary one. I cried at how terrible the script was (sorry, but that movie was a crime against intelligence). ____________________

This is a stealth Scientology brainwashing thread.
My suggestions...
I am sure most people have already seen these...
Braindead "A young man's mother is bitten by a Sumatran rat-monkey. She gets sick and dies, at which time she comes back to life, killing and eating dogs, nurses, friends, and neighbors."
Bad Taste "The population of a small town disappears and is replaced by aliens that chase human flesh for their intergalactic fast-food chain."
Evil Dead II "The lone survivor of an onslaught of flesh-possessing spirits holds up in a cabin with a group of strangers while the demons continue their attack."
Army of Darkness "A man is accidentally transported to 1300 A.D., where he must battle an army of the dead and retrieve the Necronomicon so he can return home."
Most horror is just terrible so you might as well make comedy out of them. The first two are early Peter Jackson and the last two are early Sam Raimi.

The Road - Not a typical titillating horror film but still a deeply harrowing film about the moral abyss humanity can fall into when civilization is destroyed.

Marebito or Stranger from Afar.
It was made by the same person who made Ju-on(The Grudge).
It was filmed in 8 days and is one of the most surreal movies I have ever seen.

I'd recommend Fallen
A supernatural thriller, won't spoil the plot, but it's a very nice suspenseful film.
Lovely opening quote too: "This is the story about the time I almost died." And you can practically hear the italics here.

Just a fair warning to the good people of EVE that this is less of an traditional horror film and more of an "I wish I didn't see it" -soul raping film. If you just want horror, avoid this. If you want to see things like mutilation, child **** or a man raping a newborn baby, go right a head and watch it.

I won't defend it, only to say that those 4 scenes don't really show you those things, but rather 'heavily' imply them. The film though, is not about that, but it will **** your soul. Proceed with caution.

I'm not trying to say people should never watch it or that it is a pedo**** film, but it is a film of aquired taste, lets just put it that way. The chances are that if you already haven't heard about it or didn't know what it is all about, you will propably find it disgusting instead of enjoyable, and not the good kind of disgusting you can get from normal horror films.

Kirk Vs. Gorn
Advertisement before the clip starts.
Question to those of you who watched this back in the day when it was on TV in the 60's.
Were "effects" like this treated as "Wow! This is the sh**!!!!!! Gorn looks so real!"
Or was it more like, "This is the most ridiculous/hilarious thing I've ever seen!!!" ____________________

"Serbian film" is not scary, it's disgusting and completely meaningless pile of steaming crap. The director's first movie and hopefully the last.

Of course, i totally agree. It is one of the most 'horrifying' films i've ever seen in exactly the way you've just described. Its torture, there's zero 'feel good' about it. Proceed with caution! |
