I know quite a few women who play this game and most have had mixed experiences with the male player base.
A women i know was considering leaving the game as she gets about 20 private convos a day from people inside her own alliance. She is flirted with constantly by a lot of married men and young boys who want to be facebook friends.
normal conversation for her (exagerated)
man: Hey i know that we are 3000 miles apart but why dont we date. ill hook you up on my facebook page and we can share pictures Women: i just want to play internet spaceships thanks man: Hey i know that we are 3000 miles apart but why dont we date. ill hook you up on my facebook page and we can share pictures Woman can you leave me alone please
Continue for ever
The women that seem to have the best experiences are those in small corps of people whose male player base are socially active outside the game.
Question
Do you think that it women are driven from the game or dont enjoy the game that much because of internet men TM (Socially inhibited, limited social life, know very few women most of whom they are related to and can but not always have very low intelligence)
Ive identified a few types of women in this game and how they do
1. carebear alliance member - take the brunt of the abuse by internet men 2. The pirate - tend to do better as she will kill anyone who gives her a hard time. 3. The scheming flirt - Has all of her stuff donated to her by internet men (works the system) 4. Corp talker only - Only talks to people she is comfortable with and does interact with the alliance members (very sad state of affairs)
I have no idea how to counter this problem as if you took Internet men out of MMOs then a huge chunk of the player base would disappear.
Ive got a lot of females in my corp who like it as they are treated as any other corp member. and this is what you find
1. The collect ships like shoes 2. They recruit other women as women like to hang out with other women do to there scarcity 3. They are mainly social and will participate in team work 4. They will follow a death vendetta to the end if an internet man has been or previously given them problems 5. As their CEO they are happy to send me one nudie pic per week (this part is a complete lie)
Last statement is to the internet men.
1. This is a game not a dating portal. 2. If you have been married for 15 years dont flirt with girls young enough to be your daughter to prove that you still have it.
Your thoughts and comments are welcome

I suspect that when we eventually get ambulation (sorry I lost track of the current name about 2 name changes ago) we may find more female players joining us as it will improve roleplaying/social aspects of the game somewhat.
With more female players around I imagine the problems you mention will be reduced somewhat. Just my 0.02 isk ____ ~ Guild Alliance ~ |

Edited by: Abdiel Kavash on 27/10/2010 15:26:09 Does this seriously happen? We have two female players in corp right now, and if I heard about anyone doing anything similar to them, the offender would be kicked immediately, with a friendly note sent to all the alliances I'm in contact with and possibly everyone who would ever recruit them again. ___________ EVE is dying! Who cares what gender a player is? It makes 100 percent no difference to anything at all.
If someone is being harrased by another player at any point they should be reported and blocked, at which point they are no longer a problem to the player.
Sexism is no different to Racism, or any of the more frequent "ism's" there are mechanics to deal with it, so use them. |

In my corp, we had a woman who would undock her Moros outside the station and pop any corp mate who harrassed her. It was entertaining. We haven't seen her around since the Moros' drone nerf =(

One of the big issues here is that intense sandbox MMOs like EVE appeal greatly to people who are naturally socially awkward and provides them with some semblence of a pseudo social life. Therefore they become easily attached to people on here.

Why is this a problem to quit over? Tell the harassing people to **** off and stop spamming, since she feels harassed. Blocking also works on some people. If the spammers are too stupid to take the hint, report their ugly hairy asses for harassment. If they are corp/alliance members, do the same after talking with someone in charge and giving them the opportunity to to deal with the issue or leave for a corp that doesn't let their members suffer that crap on a regular basis. There are even all female corps, if someone really wants a refuge from unwanted attention. Point being, that there are things people can do about such things and they shouldn't be afraid to use them. Most people will stop after being told the attention is not wanted and the rest deserve to get some sense *****slapped in to them by a GM.
Yes female players shouldn't have to do all that, but as long as their numbers are relatively so low and men remain men, it is just a reality you have to adapt to. Either cover your gender, learn to handle the harassers or join an all female/sensible male organisation. More female players would also help the situation, since at least the burden of having to deal with the negatives would get spread around on more shoulders and become lighter to bear.

OP lacks any real content or grammar.
But on internet spaceship women, there are some and they do play normally like us. Have notice the oddity that often a single woman will be in a corp, probably revelling in the attention.

5. As their CEO
So I take it from this that you are are CEO of a corporation in which your female members are being harassed. And instead of kicking the abusers from your corporation you prefer instead to whine on the forums.
The phrase "part of the problem" springs to mind.

You seem to lack problem solving skills... Just send a mail to the alliance stating that anyone who keeps harassing your members in that manner will be KOS for your corp in every fleet OP.
Either people take note and stop, or you get kicked out of the alliance. Either way the problem is solved.
Show some balls, that's why you got them. (I assume, purely statistically speaking)

That sounds like something I would do.
Speaking as a girl in an alliance where I'm the only female member, I can say that I don't have the problems you describe - I think the larger problem stems from the lack of maturity of the men involved rather than the women themselves. It is an unfortunate fact that some people lack the social development of an ant colony, and that they are freakishly annoying to the rest of us (male or female). If that drives people to quit the game, then all I can say is that's really too bad. Eve needs more good players (whether or not they perchance to have boobs).
Edit:

This, No need to restrict the KOS to fleet ops only though, As CEO of your corp it's your responsibility to stick up for your members, male or female and if they're being harrassed, well, deal with it, If it leads to having to leave the alliance, Fine, Your corp members should come before the alliance anyway. ------------------------- I'm not shirtless damnit! |

I am female and in all the corps I have been in have NEVER had a problem like that.
I can have a laugh and a good joke with all the guys and listen on TS etc to all the women jokes and stuff without any problem. I like a bit of banter and I talk to anyone, be it in local or corp/alliance etc.
If she is getting convo'd 20 times a day I would be highly surprised tbh. If you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen.

Surely you meant "stay in the kitchen"?
Seriously given it only take a few forty something in mid life crisis to be a pain I wonder if a "don't ask don't tell" policy isn't the best one for the few female players, I don't see why anyone playing Internet spaceships should give a damn about RL race/gender/political orientation of other people in Internet spaceships.

Two comments: #1 pics or stfu #2 by your own account the number of females in this game is low, yet miraculously you happen to know quite a few of them, now ...., either there aren't many females in this game, or you just happen to know quite a few of the few ..., I will leave it up to the readers to decide which is more likely
Also, did you link her his thread to boast how you are defending her e-honor?
Bottom line is that every player, male or female, has the ability to completely ignore/block another player on any and all communication channels. I suggest that she stops being an attention***** and makes use of those features. |
