So, lets say that my guns optimal range is at 3500Km. But the orbiting distance only gives 2500 and 5000M. How do you use this feature so that you keep yourself at optimal range?

Right-click the orbit command on the "selected target" window. It will allow you to set a default orbit range which can be any number you choose yourself. The others are merely some default values.
Also, you will orbit further out than your given orbit command most of the time (due to agility and pilot moving).
Remember to not out-orbit your tracking. ___________________

I'd personally like to know what guns in this game have a 3,500km optimal range. ___________________________________________ The Hero of Kamela The Terror of Tararan The Executioner of Ezzara |

Also, be aware that you will usually do maximum damage at a point *further out* than the weapon's optimal. If you are really close to your opponent you might have tracking issues.

Remember the Vagabond is a very bad kiting ship (whatever others might say) since it has only around 1500m optimal range. Do not use it, EVER!

Right. But it doesn't allow you to set your own custom orbit range. I'm still back to having to resort to the game's default options. If that's the case, do I simply just try to figure out a compromise b/w the default options and my own optimal + fall off range?

Edited by: Chukin Nova on 28/10/2010 21:57:10 It is by default on the top left of your screen when you click on a target a little picture pops up and there are some comands under it. For instance: Align To, Warp To, there is also an icon next to them for orbit, if you right click this, it allows you to type in any distance you would like. I think maybe you misunder stood the first posters intent so hopfully I clear this up :)

Staying out of range of various weapon and mods.
Take the Shield Stabber/Rupture/Hurc or the Vega, you want to stay outside of webber/scram range while keeping them warp disrupted and peppering them with autocannons, using your TE enhanced falloff. Same goes for ships like the Sader, Slicer and sheild Harb(no matter what you think of it).
Yeah I know probably a troll but for people who don't know.

remember if your ship has enough agility to kite. If your ship is going to fast then your orbiting range might be more than your orbit range. ie: you click on orbit at 15km on your target. your target ship is going very fast (over 1k ms/s) and so does yours. Chances are that if you dont have enough agility then you might go lower or higher than 15km.
In other words, you could need some mods to increase it like an iStab I believe.

Sorry, you are too stupid to be helped.
"It doesn't allow you to set your own custom orbit range"
That's exactly what it does. ___________________

Ah yes. You're right. I was using the Overview tab instead of the far upper right hand corner which does allow for inputting a number. Thanks for your patient explanation rather than the immature chiding that others have given.
