So CCP obviously just moved those information updates into a discussion thread.
Why is the "information portal" being called information portal if the information goes elsewhere?
Why is there no link to the thread below in here? Why do I have to go follow a bit.ly - link on twitter to get aware of its existance?

Give them credit for consistency You get to load a patch before you can use the brand new build

Migrating several gigabytes of information requires time. This involves backups, data translation, then warming up the servers again (which takes a half hour anyways).
Honestly, if you have any ideas for how to actually speed up such a migration, download Python, Microsoft Visual Studio, and Microsoft SQL Server, and get cracking. If you can make it go faster, you could make a lot of money working on big-iron databases, making life better for a whole lot of people. Have fun!
And take it from me. Loosing a few hours of skill training isn't a big deal. You'll get over it. EVE is about having fun and making friends (and enemies). Skills are just a way of helping people specialize in specific things and learn how to use equipment while they train for more equipment. As any PvP junkie will tell you, a 10mil SP pilot can kick the butt of a 100mil SP pilot if the 10mil SP pilot knows what he's doing more than the 100mil pilot.
To answer your question, yes there is a much easier way to fix the time to reboot the servers.
Get away from MS, MS adds in hundreds of lines of code which are processor intensive, and destructive to a good database. I use to build databases using Apache (not the free version), and all other things you spoke about in your post.
I could get a massive database with over a million lines of data up and running in less than 10 minutes. Of course I was using Linux, but if we did that heaven forbid we actually have programmers that stop using the MS crutch to really build a great game from the ground up instead of patching flaw after flaw because of the bad code produced by MS in the first place.
You should really keep misinformed opinions to yourself. Contrary to what Linux zealots think, MS SQL is and always was years ahead of all the other database engines.

Microsoft SQL Cluster is not the issue. It's on par with Oracle and PgSQL. In EVE, you're talking about 1.5 TB of data (source: http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=817). Even MySQL will begin to degrade without careful maintenance when attacked with that much data, and that much activity. Will there be a new static database dump released as well?
Thanks!
Yes there will be a new static database dump. Look for it on patch day or slightly thereafter

My eyes must obviously deceive me I could swear i saw something about the mail-issues being resolved in this patch?
Much to my surprise they were not Trying to answer or write a new mail is still totally frecked up. God forbid if one needs to hit ENTER or DEL during the mail.
Come on CCP, seriously... wtf? How will Incursion be like if you cant even fix a text editing issue during 5 patches in a row? This is Hilarius..
