This is what I do sometimes when I get bored. I run speed tests for my browsers... :)
Sunspider Javascript Test (lower is better):
1. Chrome 7: 208 2. Opera 11: 228 3. Firefox 4 beta: 260
Html 5 Test (higher is better):
1. Chrome 7: 243 2. Firefox 4 beta: 226 3. Opera 11: 186
I cant test Internet Explorer 9 beta since Im on Linux, but someone should be able to? Run the sunspider javascript test and the test at www.html5test.com and let me know... :)

Chrome is light years better than anything else I have used in the last twenty years.
Given Google knocked it together from webkit in a few months or so, kinda says a lot about the level of fail endemic in all the other software options tbh.
Firefox (for those who were there) represented a refreshing performance boost over the ageing and doggedly clunky Mozilla.
Now Firefox is ageing and doggedly clunky.
Just need to see the death of Flash and all will be well in the world.

I have to laugh out loud at that one as chrome is even farther from 100% compatibility than Konqueror.

Compatibility with what? Who cares? Frankly the reason every browser project out there sucks is because its bloatware. I don't need a browser to land passenger aircraft or make espresso. I don't need 500, 000 plugins and widgits and themes etc. I don't need forty different standards approved certificates.
I just need it to browse half a dozen websites, the same ones, every day, like 99% of other people. Those guys, myself included, are pretty happy when that doesn't **** my hard disk incessantly, gobble up hundreds of megs of ram, rely on third party content, constantly require updating, constantly endure radical project 'overhauls' and 'changes of perspective' etc.
I don't need a browser to sell me anything, or sell me a 'life style' either.
It just needs to render html, handle flash and not be a monolithic resource *****.
Thankfully Google made Chrome. Since the only search engine I use is Google, the only email I use is Google, the only media sites I visit are Google (youtube etc), the syndicated news I get from Google etc etc etc. Why would I want another company or bunch of stinky bedroom fanatics to determine what works best with Google?
Speed. Reliability. Availability. Compatible with everything it needs to be compatible with. Properly instanced/threaded. Non-******ed expansions. Win.

I use Chrome on Windows and Firefox on Linux. Both do their job perfectly. I have zero complaints.

Edited by: Louis deGuerre on 31/10/2010 21:49:12 Chrome IS fast, but it still leaves a lot to be desired. I like it to work as well as be fast. Sticking with lovely firefox for now *hugs adblock*
From a programmer perspective, a new browser that fails to work properly in yet a new way is not making my life any easier. if (isExplorer()) { hack() } else if (isChrome())( hack2(); } else if (isFoxy()) { // no hack required \o/ }

Edited by: Antihrist Pripravnik on 01/11/2010 04:11:59 Don't care much about numbers various browsers got on tests. IE can get the best results on tests (it never did tho), but that won't make me use it.
From personal experience: Chrome > Opera > rest edit:^^ that's speed I'm talking about, since the OP is about speedy browsers

There's adBlock for Chrome, and it's been around for almost a year even before Extentions got added.. Get with the times, heh. Chrome has never failed me, yet Firefox continues to be a resource hog and bloat's to insanity. Chrome offers me everything I need, and more. ---

Lol, I need to get back to working on our frontend. Suddenly Chrome becomes a lot more sexy. Still buggier than Fox tough. Sol: A microwarp drive? In a battleship? Are you insane? They arenĘt built for this! Clear Skies - The Movie
