Quick question. I already have an account on Eve, obviously, so will I also have to pay for an account and another subscription when Dust 514 comes out? Since they'll be interconnected in the same universe, essentially, I was just wondering.

I thought Dust was going to be free to play and use micro transactions instead?
So in answer to you question, no you will not have to pay for another account. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

AFAIK, Dust will not be subscription based. If you play it on the xbox though, you're gonna need a Live account. (ps3 free online play ftw)

whoop whoop (i love my ps3).
But microtransactions? Are the MT's stuff like aesthetic stuff or will it be like pay 50$ for the biggest gun in the game?

Dust is a separate game, so yesà but as others have said: you won't have to pay another subscription, since it will be MT-based. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Will Xbox live really charge you to just go online and access a 3rd party multiplayer server. I always had the impression that Live was a portal service to XBox exclusive servers.
Its doubtful that any of the buddy functions/stat tracking etc will be provided by MS/Live unless you end up having separate servers/multi-player between the Playstation owners and Xbox owners.
CCP will need to provide their own servers, server tracking/search software and possibly their own shopfront for micro-transaction services outside both of Live and PSN if Xbox players and PS3 players are to compete with and against each other.
aside question: are their any other games for both systems that allow cross platform multiplayer?

there is no 3rd party multiplayer server except those for EA-Games..they are special somehow. besides that - everthing works within closed xboxlive network
Quote: aside question: are their any other games for both systems that allow cross platform multiplayer?
No.
some games have websites that show some stats of the player like kill/death and so one, but I think those stats can be pulled of the network...the game itself never communicates to other services than xbox live.
blur was the first game I had, that is able to post on facebook and twitter and even this goes through a special xbox-live service. and your xboxlive gamertag must be connected to a facebook account.
I do not think that CCP will have a) own servers b) the possibility to have ps3 and xboxlive gamers to play against eachothers.
I believe it will be like any other console shooter, just playing in eve universe.

Afaik it's pay for advantages, but not set in stone yet. They did say it wouldn't be pay to win, but... that's said about all p2w games. I'll be realistic, which leaves room for a positive surprise.

IT'S A DIFFERENT GAME. On a totally different platform. Of course you're going to have to pay separately.

Better question.
Certainly we know about Xbox and PS3, but will there be a PC-based version of the game?

No, at least not at first.
They won't comment on what the future holds.

Final Fantasy XI is on Xbox, PC, and ps2. XIV is currently on PC, is going to be on ps3 in March, and I believe a 360 version is in the works. All users can play on the same servers regardless of location or platform. So it is possible.

If it's hosted on third party servers that charge a seperate subscription then you only need a Silver account, not sure how an MT based service would work though. Anyways, yeah the console MMOs tend not to require a paid XBL sub as other people have said :3

Prolly both...
Go play some shiny korean MT based game... you will see a wonderful world of half gamble styled money-sucker which ruins you if your kid somehow manages to find your credit card...
On the other game there is a great system like in Puzzle Pirates where every item costs in game cash and real cash ingame monetary value. And you have a market where you can exchange real cash monetary value to ingame cash (and vice versa)... Plus system is basically designed for you to spend somewhere between 10-20$ month.

I miss the days of planetside where I paid 15$ a month to play a MMO domination type map thing. Oh well.
(TBH I was hoping that this would be something like planetside).

I had heard I one point that Sony was thinking of adding a subscription to online play, similar to Xbox Live.

Hah, yeah it actually does. You have to pay microsoft to use your xbox on your own internet connection, to view google even. Its pretty ******ed.
The 'expensive' ps3 is actually cheaper then the 360 if you factor in XB Live Service.

Do your reading first.
To the OP, there will be no sub charge for the game CCP have already said so. Players of Dust514 will be Mercs for players within eve online. You will buy the Dust game, and then those that hire you in eve pay for the equipment etc you use with ISK. This way CCP will boost subs to eve online (in theory) because Dust players will want to be able to get thier own ISK for stuff too. Which i guess is how CCP will offset lack of sub charge, they will make it back by new subs to eve.

No. They will offset the lack of a subscription by using microtransactions instead. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

This is not true at all. Phantasy Star Universe and FF11 are both 3rd party servers. You must pay a seperate subscription rate for both, however you do not need an Xbox Gold membership for both.
Other games have also had their own servers in the past. For example, Chromehounds (may it rest in peace) had it's own servers, with no additional charge. Unfortunately the servers were taken down, so the game is no longer playable online.
