I fear what will happen to eve after this 'big' patch.
Through all of the mini patches to the UI over the past little while, each one has introduced MORE bugs, and i have failed to see any bugs actually fixed.
The most recent example of this is the evemail windows. If you try to type an evemail, be sure to type it in notepad first and then paste it into the evemail body. Why? Because your cursor randomly positions itself inside of the body of the message (only behind-the-scenes though). When you're typing, your cursor APPEARS at the end, where youve been typing... but suddenly you notice your letters being inserted in the middle of the body. Further, dont try to correct this, as it just messes up the hidden cursor position further.
What else have they fuked with UI updates? Chat windows! Thats right, if you paste a url in, the chat window loses focus! you then need to re-select the chat window before continuing to type.
More?! Autolinking is now pretty fubar. A while back, they had a very annoying bug, where if you autolinked and then erased that link, then tried to type, it would continue typing the link. They fixed that, for a short time. Apparently its actually a feature that was lost, because now its back!
And it brought friends! drag/dropping items or names into the chat window for linkage now places the cursor directly against the text (it was nice when it placed a space at the end). Yeah its minor, but an annoying change still.
The MAJOR bugs are -not- even looked at. The major bugs being the overview sensor ghosts, where player names remain on overview even after they've left the system. And the most major bug, Blue players appearing Neutral on the overview. I usually see one blue-on-blue fight caused by this bug every other week.
Oh then theres the bug where it labels everyone in the station after you dock as neutral, i mean how hard is it to just pull that information from wherever local gets it from... (then again, as stated above, thats bugged too.)

Edited by: Buck Marui on 02/11/2010 12:56:34 Assume this big update fixes all that.
Then what is the point of this post?
At least wait until the update is released and Tranquility is live before speculating about hypothetical problems it may or may not introduce. |

Just putting it out there, I've never had a single bug from those UI updates.

Well, everyone assumed the mini UI patches were fixing the bugs, but did they? no. So what makes you think this one will?

What makes you think it won't?
FYI the updates did fix a lot of problems, they also introduced a few, a few problems like those you have listed are annoying I agree, but they are not critical or gamebreaking. |

They fixed plenty of stuff I had issues with before them

I'm hoping this will fix all of the UI bugs, like the sh[i]tty copy and paste one. I've got ocd irl and this really really grinds my gears when you cant write a description or evemail that looks good.

What the 1.1 patch and (MANY) patches of that patch fiasco showed is that the UI code is so utterly broken that the whole thing needs a rewrite from scratch.
We do need UI updates. EVE has one of the worst UI's in the MMO industry, it's outdated, archaic and uses a barely readable font that was obsolete in 1995. What the 1.1 series of patches showed is that relatively TINY improvements to the UI cannot be made without breaking the whole damn thing.
If I were in charge, the next project after fixing fleet fight lag would be to dedicate the best and brightest from doing a complete rewrite of the UI code along with a complete redesign of the UI.

Yes, by and large.
Also, what UI updates do you want them to stop? The patch currently being deployed contains exactly one new UI update. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Urm yeah, that is what they are doing, please read the patch notes before commenting on it.
FYI
Quote: The backend of the EVE User Interface has been refactored to allow for faster development and ease of programming. Because of this some UI settings, such as stacked windows, may not be preserved after the patching process.
This is required before your new fandangled UI can be made |

I Agree 100% The only reason im asking for them to stop is because they're just spewing **** out their ass at the moment, making it worse. They need to stop and look at whats coming out, to slap themselves awake and do it properly
And yeah, the UI is terrible, i mean who puts the Abdandon Drones button directly under Return to Dronebay? ****ing stupid. At least make the Abandon a submenu with a confirm button... I guess that's just asking too much.

Everyone who's used to deal with software since years should accept: "Bugs are a part of development. Bugs come and go. Sooner or later they will be fixed. Last but not least you never get rid of them. The workaround is the user's best friend."
I see no reason to emo as long as you don't use serious software killing your income and business. Patience is the path to happiness :-)

Bingo! I was right.
It is no longer possible to autolink multiple solarsystems in chat anymore once you do, you seem to lose sync with the channel, as nobody sees what you type afterwards, you cant see anyone else typing.
You CAN see your own text if you resize your chat window, but once you stop resizing it disappears again (this does not seem to help if you want to see what others have typed)
You have to rejoin the channel before it works again. It also fubars the chat window buttons, so that its not possible to open the channel search window to rejoin, unless you have a second chat window open!
I love it ccp, keep up the ****ty work!
