The manual patch download persistently reports itself as corrupted, so I'm downloading the full build. I'm curious how this build is treating any Linuxers who've already installed it.
Also, what is the minimal list of files I should backup in order to keep my display settings, overview, in-game notepad etc all intact?
Thanks in advance, penguins and penguinettes!

As far as reinstalling goes display settings as far as I know have to be redone, overview settings have the import/export feature, and the notepad as far as i can tell is stored server side. The other main thing I can think of when reinstalling is that any organization of bookmarks via folders will be lost, the book marks them selves will still be there just not the folder. Notes may work the same way.
Umm, if you have any chat logs you may want to keep, you may want set them aside.
patching has been hit an miss for me, with 3 clients, each with their own install sometimes all will patch. Other times 1 or 2 fail, and yet sometimes none will patch so I have gotten in the habbit of just d/ling the offline installer.

Edited by: Augustus Ogana on 02/11/2010 19:50:12 Sad to say that after installing the new version, the game crashes about 2 minutes into being logged in. Guess I'll try uninstalling Wine and EVE and then reinstalling.
Edit: This happens both with and without the optional client update.

I'm not sure if this is going to be a rant or a rave.
The patch didn't work - it kept reporting itself as corrupted. So, I downloaded the new offline installer, backed up my settings folder, started it installing, and took a shower.
I came back to find an error message, 2 Win XP crash windows, and a recommendation to run DXSETUP.exe. I did that last thing and then launched the client. It worked. I checked my notes, which were all still in their folders. I hadn't even had to restore my backups. The IGB still hung my client, though.
After installing the optional client update, a friend and I started chatting... and then the client hung. Three completely random and unprovoked hangs later, I became frownyface.
I removed the optional client patch, and the hangs continued.
Surprisingly, the repair app works now. I ran it. It was rather vague about whether it had found anything to be fixed.
Time to uninstall and reinstall EVE. To be continued...

Can't believe I forgot to do that. I bet that's the whole cause of the problem...
Some updates: Same error telling me to manually install DXSETUP.exe. I had -not- previously disabled Jukebox between installing the full build and complaining about it ... so I presume that was the problem.
Here's where this story becomes a rave... MY IGB WORKS NOW! Of course, it worked when I first installed EVE, and then broke... but heck, I might just keep reinstalling every time it breaks ;)
So far, no hangs since installing fresh and removing the Jukebox. Thanks for the help, I'll stfu unless it breaks again ;)

First Post!
..unfortunately its about a problem though :( I too am having no luck installing recent patch.
I'm running wine-1.1.32 on fedora 11. I've not had eve installed via wine for long but its been rock solid until this update. (I'm gutted but not despondant, I love this game).
I have got as far as downloading evepremiumpatch185699-197121_m.exe and tried running it like this: wine /path/to/evepremiumpatch185699-197121_m.exe
---------shell output below-------------- wine .wine/drive_c/users/Public/Application\ Data/CCP/EVE/Downloads/evepremiumpatch185699-197121_m.exe fixme:shell:SHAutoComplete SHAutoComplete stub fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000180 fixme:advapi:CheckTokenMembership ((nil) 0x166e68 0x33fae4) stub! err:richedit:ReadColorTbl ReadColorTbl: malformed entry err:richedit:ReadColorTbl ReadColorTbl: malformed entry err:richedit:ReadColorTbl ReadColorTbl: malformed entry err:richedit:ReadStyleSheet ReadStyleSheet: skipping optional destination err:richedit:ReadStyleSheet ReadStyleSheet: skipping optional destination err:richedit:ReadStyleSheet ReadStyleSheet: skipping optional destination wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000008 at address 0x3a43c0 (thread 001e), starting debugger... -------------------------------------
first time it offers to patch the C:/Program Files/CCP/EVE and fails like above, if I try and browse to the correct location the windows gui directory tree does not show my hidden .wine directory so I copied my EVE folder to somewhere the installer can find, ran it again and get the exact same error.
Am I running the patch incorrectly? Or doing something else thats daft? Thanks for any clue you guys can offer fellow penguinistas!

Ok all here is my findings.
I got EVE running with all my graphics maxed (including HDR, which prior to this patch I could not have on) except Bloom. I had to turn Bloom off and EVE ran great on ubuntu 10.04 .
So in short after this patch I can turn on HDR but have to have Bloom off.
Also be sure to rename Jukebox folder to avoid crash.

I found that for me the patch did not work if I had the Jukebox folder renamed. When I renamed the Jukebox folder back to its default name, the patch would apply, then I re-renamed the jukebox. |

1) Download the manual patch from the eve site 2) Make sure there is a folder named Jukebox in EVE/res/audio 3) Run patch 4) Remove/Rename Jukebox folder in EVE/res/audio 5) Start eve 6) Profit?? |

Update...
It seems after being logged in after a few hours the game froze. I was able to get it working again but this time had to keep HDR turned off and could turn bloom on high. I don't understand why it was reversed after I did a clean install but I have been logged in a while now with HDR off and Bloom on high and all seems good.

Br41n: thanks for the instructions, but I had no luck (same error). I then tried a full install, still no luck.
So, to get back in my frigate I had to:
Install the new eve offline installer onto a windows 7 VM (Sun virtualbox), ftp the Eve folder back to my linux machine (into .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/
..and it works! What a palava..
