Around 200-300 mil/month depending on local fuel prices. Call it 250. _

Roughly 5 high-sec planets' worth of PI. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

More like 10+ depending on what's anchored.
A medium tower takes around 10 PI planets if you have 3 labs, corp hangar and hardeners anchored and online.

Oookà Maybe we're just building the exact right stuff on our planets, but our medium tower is fully covered by 5 planets, and the left-over goods covers the ice products cost four times over (actually, ~5× over since we only have 2 labs, a hangar, a ship maint array and a couple of factoriesà).
If it took 10+ planets, I would expect the cost of a medium tower to be in excess of 600M/month. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

I'm running a deficit of coolant and robotics as far as I can see, surplus of everything else to an extent that one planet of everything else should be sufficient. I just did a duplicate of my planets on my indy alt, probably going to ditch some of them and put up a 3rd coolant planet and a 4th robotics planet.

Is it a faction tower I heard those were much cheaper to run.

because of course you can produce ice also with PI... hm...

It is, but it shouldn't make that much of a difference. Again, those five planets have an overproduction that cover the ice product cost many times over; unless a standard tower somehow sucks up 6-7× as much of everything, you shouldn't need 10 plants to run it.

No. But as mentioned, you get plenty enough overproduction to cover those costs as well. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

How do you have your planets set up? Is each planet self contained or do you ship in materials to production planets? I've been running all of mine self contained, I have a third alt producing some of the stuff I'm short on to keep my facilities running at 100% with 24 hour cycles on everything. I also stock each planet every weekend with 24 hours of materials and run 5 hour cycles for the weekends. But like I said everything is a surplus except coolant and robotics. I don't spend money on ice products either, I mostly just ice mine while I play MW:2, and can sorta keep up with ice products minus ozone.

Ill answer this since im the one who doe's all the work!
Its a mix. Three planets are self contained making enriched uranium, oxygen and coolant. One is kinda self contained making mech part's both to be used as fuel and to be used for robotic's. One is used for robotics, where consumer electronic's is made on the planet and then mixed with imported mech part's. The enriched uranium and mech part planet's are on fiev hour cycles and the others are usually on 23.
Also, tippia is kinda wrong, Three of those are in 0.4-sec. Dont know how much difference that makes tho.

I'll have to ask the guy who actually does the main PI ù I just see the stuff flow in and out of our hangars (and see the monthly trades).
edit 1: Oh well, there you go.
edit 2: Also, Rah, you've earned yourself one podding for severe abuse against apostrophes and punctuation in general. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Lowsec makes a big difference actually if I'm not mistaken in the amounts your extractors will produce. (the first 2 tabs of that spreadsheet show how much my extractors are pulling for 24 hour cycles).
That sounds like something I might try and do with my 3 characters, except I don't have the time to do 5 hour cycles every day :P I was considering a setup very similar since my main problem is consumer electronics for the robotics producing planets.
Good tips though, as soon as the xpac comes out I plan on redoing all my planets.
Oh, and if you're interested in a little dealie I wrote over one weekend to examine your fuel consumption/production you can take a look here: http://www.randomhost.org/posmanager/ I haven't fooled with it or used it since the API upgrade though. It actually downloads your assets instead of needing jEVEAssets now (didn't update the page with that info).
