Its an idea ive been cooking up. I dont consider Hybrid Turrets to be Hybrids. The MK III line would allow you to mount it on a High Slot for regluar Range, Damage, CPU and Cap usage. BUT you could mount it on Medium for half Range and half Damage, and double CPU usage and double Cap useage. And you would need Jury Rigging 2 or 3 to use it. And if you did mount it on Medium, it would cost 1 Turret Hardpoint and 1 Missile Hardpoint to keep you from mounting your ship up with Missiles in High and these in Low. The only exceptions would be on ships with 2 or less Hardpoints for Missiles. Tell me if I am missing anything to make this idea better and add suggestions. Thanks!

No, NO. I am talking about this for everyone, not just people able and willing to shell out hundreds of millions of ISK to get expencive ships for specalized modules.

But why? What would the benefit be relative to the cost.
Death is not the answer only a means to an end. |

The term hybrid refers to the ammo they fire not the gun themselfs , hybrid ammo has a shell like projectiles but a energised core similar to energy weapons, hence the term hybrid.
that said with the OP ........sorry no
what would be the point of a gun that does half damage but costs the same as 2 guns of the same type. im all for differant ways of adding more guns to ships but this is not one of them

I really dont think convertible hybrids is a viable idea, but what about a skill set that would allow any pilot to stack turrents. I dont mean just grouping them. I mean taking 4 small turrents and stacking them together on a large high power slot, or 2 medium turrents on that same slot, or 2 small turrents on a medium sized high power slot. Initial training would require Advance Weapons 5 and Jury Rigging 5. Each level would decrease an initial 20% penalty to range and damage. As far as overall performance, allowing the use of multiple turrents to be stacked per slot actually doesn't change the DPS of the vessel in question. It does allow a Battleship to target and track faster moving frigates and destroyers. This skill set would actually allow a pilot to arm a Battleship like it should be; 2 large turrents, 4 Medium turrents, and 8 small turrents. Now normally no pilot in his/her right mind would fit a ship like this, but there are certain places where this fit might actually work. My mind is thinking PvP, but I am open for comments.
