Hi,
I'm thinking about setting up a POS in wspace - the target system is a class 4, with static connection to lower class and no static connections to kspace.
It is going to be for solo ops (at least at beginning) - mainly interested in plexing, then production/research, gas harvesting and PI - never done mining, and I don't expect to do any. I will buy all fuel in kspace - no plan to self produce.
I've never handled a POS - just read some information here and there. I would start with a medium one, as small is too easy to blow up and large looks to me too much... large.
I'm choosing laser guns so I don't have to bother with ammos. I've come up with the following configuration:
Quote: Dark Blood Control Tower Medium
Dread Guristas Ion Field Projection Battery [ 3 ] -- Online Dread Guristas Phase Inversion Battery [ 3 ] -- Online Dread Guristas Spatial Destabilization Battery [ 3 ] -- Online Dread Guristas White Noise Generation Battery [ 3 ] -- Online
Energy Neutralizing Battery [ 1 ] -- Online
True Sansha Medium Beam Laser Battery [ 4 ] -- Online True Sansha Medium Beam Laser Battery [ 2 ] -- Offline (*) True Sansha Medium Beam Laser Battery [ 2 ] -- Offline (**) True Sansha Medium Pulse Laser Battery [ 2 ] -- Online True Sansha Small Pulse Laser Battery [ 1 ] -- Offline (*) True Sansha Large Beam Laser Battery [ 1 ] -- Offline (**)
Warp Scrambling Battery [ 2 ] -- Online Warp Scrambling Battery [ 2 ] -- Offline (***)
Stasis Webification Battery [ 2 ] -- Online Stasis Webification Battery [ 1 ] -- Offline (***)
Mobile Laboratory [ 1 ] -- Online (*) Corporate Hangar Array [ 1 ] -- Online (*) Ship Maintenance Array [ 1 ] -- Online (*) Photon Scattering Array [ 1 ] -- Online (*) Heat Dissipation Array [ 1 ] -- Online (*)
When under attack, items (*) are toggled online/offline. Items marked as (**) are mutually exclusive - if one is online, the other is offline and vice versa. Items marked as (***) are for backup only
What do you think? Is it a good fit? Any comment and/or suggestion?

That looks like a very expensive set up. I'd skip the named modules. Do you have POS gunnery skills and PI alts? When you say Solo ops, do you mean dual boxing T3's?
I'd recommend the following: -Drop the large laser as any carriers will have to be built in order to enter your system. -Keep the ship maint array and corp hangar offline till you need to use them, liquid ozone is expensive -I'd add one more energy neutralizing battery as if you are attacked it's going to be a RR BS gang that does it. -I'd not recommend a C4 for solo ops
I'd suggest a WH corp first to be honest. This comes across as very new for you.

Edited by: Brian Ballsack on 06/11/2010 13:11:55 Dont use anything other than a large pos in a c4, it wont take long for a gang to burn down a medium, no amount of guns or ewar mods will help.

Pos laser turrets still consume crystals btw.

And as someone else stated, use a Large or you will find your POS destroyed one day.

Too many faction mods. You'll be a target.
Been there. Done that. System got sieged and we got wardec'd.
I wouldn't have anything more than 2x small short range and 2x small long range weapons that are faction.
Get a large tower too. Get a regular large Amarr. Don't drop a faction tower unless you have some support, and are willing to take the billion or so loss.
Other than that, make sure to read the POS fitting thread in the forum sticky if you've not already.

Hi,
I used named modules to save on powergrid... but didn't take into account their cost.
@Tea Partier: I am actually living in a WH - but the corp is moving to a higher class, and I'd want to stay
@Brian Ballsack: after evaluating costs and pros/cons, I'll definitely "upgrade" to the large tower. The price difference is not much compared to a med tower, and I think the additional fuel cost is worth the increase of defenses and flexibility
@Worgen Fratmon: just chose Amarr because it has laser bonuses - and I'd want to stick with those guns
@Tau Cabalander: I think using he large tower I won't need any named module.
Thanks you all for the good advices :)

As mentioned, drop majority of the faction guns as they make you target. I would prefer bigger pile of small guns on medium tower and only enough medium guns how many your pos gunner(s) can control.
POS lasers consume crystals btw so they are not 'ammo free'. Use faction crystals, that extra 15% damage is quite worth it altho in the case of dedicated attack will not save your skin.
E-war mods are matter of taste, few ECM batteries are quite reasonable to keep enemy logis permajammed if controlled by pos gunners. I myself prefer sensor damp batteries as well, altho I must only bocos how cheap it is to fit them - they are in general useless other than perhaps making some logis they happen upon lock a bit slower or screw over people who try to 'snipe' your tower if you goo too heavy on short range guns.
