So, I played a few times today and at the end of each session, as I tried to exit, the client froze. This is pretty 'normal' as far as I'm concerned so I didn't think much of it. I simply hard-reset my MacBook Pro and got on with other stuff that I needed to do. Of course I wish CCP made it easier to exit the game, but that's another issue.
What is strange is that the client won't so much as launch now. I ran the repair tools to make sure that it's not damaged somehow. It comes back as fine. I guess my resets somehow broke it. Or maybe I'm just extrapolating wildly, I don't know. Is anyone else having this problem? How do I get the darned thing to launch again? And why is this happening?
Thanks in advance.

It's an issue I used to encounter, but it's also one that I thought had been fixed. If EVE won't launch, open up the activity monitor and check whether there are any applications called 'EVE Online' still running in the background. If there are, close them all and then try starting up EVE again.

Edited by: Uma Shakti on 08/11/2010 13:24:57 Thanks Sazuka,
Your suggestion didn't fix the problem. But it did suggest an idea that paid off: I ran the Activity Monitor while trying to launch EVE. It seems that the application does make it onto the list of active processes when it's launched. Also, the Network Monitor reports both outgoing and incoming data upon launch. It's just that EVE stays on the active process list for a split second and then closes again.
So I'm stuck again. |

So things are now getting curiouser and curiouser.
The client launches fine now (with no special intervention on my part as far as I can tell). It however does not establish a connection with the server. So things are changing for the better, it seems. But a problem of some sort persists.
I'll keep running the Mac Eve Repair Tools once in a while and maybe the program will 'heal' itself over the next couple of days.
Thanks CCP if it's indeed you who has started to work on the issue. I can imagine that developing a game like this for three platforms and many hardware configurations is a huge pain in the ass. Keep up the good (if imperfect) work. Oh, and can you maybe nerf the Tengu while you're at it? |

Hello Uma Shakti,
It may seem an obvious step, but could you please file a bug report on this issue here? It is the best way to bring this problem to the developers' attention and provide them with the necessary data to fix it.

Hey Spitfire,
The problem is not with EVE after all. The program works perfectly well on my employer's network. I can play just fine.
Eve only fails to launch when I'm at home. Something changed recently (perhaps a recent patch) such that my modem/router are no longer able to talk to the Eve servers. I'm on a Thomson TG784. I wonder if anyone else is having a similar issue? if not then this is truly bizarre. Also: what do you suggest I do short of changing my ISP?
Thanks once again. |
