Edited by: Zarnak Wulf on 10/11/2010 15:25:29 Battleship fleets in Nullsec seem to be mothballed for the time being. The reasons I see for this:
- A well-led squadron of stealthbombers can kill a large number of clustered RRBS.
- Fighterbombers tear apart BS. Especially when they turn their MWD on.
- AHAC gangs using afterburners and guardian support speed tank BS which can't track them.
Now Incursion has promised to nerf the subcap abilities of fighterbombers. And BS prices have fallen to very reasonable levels. Will these two things be enough to bring BS back out of their hangars? Is it more of adapting to a strategy change and perhaps using close range BS, tracking computers, tracking enhancers, webs, heavy nuets, drones, target painters, AB , ect? After all, the machine gun didn't make infantry obsolete - just the mass infantry charge. In the same way I feel that remote repping battleships are perhaps the wrong strategy.

Battleships can take down ahacs, it's all about adapting. One of the strengths with ahacs was the surprise.

Drake army is an effective response to AHAC fleets. It shouldn't be the only one. The biggest reason BS are not on the field is b/c fighter bombers will decimate them. This is about to go away.
After that I'm not sure more changes are truly needed. Cruisers and HACs deal w/ AB frigates through webs and nuets. Why should BS vs. AHAC be any different? RRBS were used during the age of Titan AoE weapons. BS were the only things that could be buffered to survive a doomsday. Or even two. Logistics obviously could not be on that battlefield. That has changed - but tactics have not. Give BS fleets their own dedicated logistics and use those utility highs for anti-support work. Stealth bombers will thrive when their enemies sit within 10km of eachother and circle jerk. Better fits and strategies after the fighter bomber nerf is what I'm hoping for.

As I understand it FBs will still have no problem with battleships. As a bored SC pilot I (sort-of) feel your pain. A lot of nights i'd rather be in a baddon than my alt's aeon, but that's how ship-bloat goes. Granted, SCs are on the extreme-ish end of ship bloat, but the paradigm is still more of the biggest possible ships is better. With current SC prices (I can already afford to rebuild my Aeon as I haven't lost one in a few months) I don't see things changing with the FB fixes (even if they're more harsh than I believe).
Warfare is running two distinct ways now: Supercap movement and highly agile hac/logi movement. Anything outside those two camps is taking a big risk except drake fleets (which work pretty well against hacs and is cheap enough not to worry about getting obliterated by an SC fleet with support caps/bs). So if the drake isn't actually nerfed, nothing happens and we all continue to skirmish with drakes between SC sov fights. If the drake is hurt enough by incoming changes we'll just use HACs between SC fights. I don't think we'll ever see enough of a cut-back in SC usage to bring BS' back in as a staple ship class. They'll still be great when intel assures you the enemy is in drakes, but aside from that they'll just continue to be relatively meaninless fodder.
