Just a quick grumble. So you did an update specifically for the chat windows but didnt tame private chat windows to open in the stack where the last private chat window was located?
Would be nice if they behaved instead of popping up behind/in front of local.

The issues with mail formatting have been fixed apart from one which leads to excessive indentation in the replies to EVE Mails. This is just a visual glitch that has no impact on the actual EVE Mail performance. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Erm nope, I copied a large amount of text from a previous evemail to post to a friend, I started editing it for formatting and at a # it jumped and borked the formatting adding an '#Auto hotlink#' text in it and completely messing it up, on deleting this my whole eve client crashed, hope this has been fixed with this optional.
And I just tried copy paste with the new patch and it drops the last character somewhere between cutting and pastin |

Yes it would be nice, and they should behave like that now. This is when you right-click on a character and do 'Start Conversation', right? If you join a chat channel, does it stack with the other channels?

Any chance you can provide us with more specific repro steps? I tried doing something similar to what you describe but didn't get any problems...

How it works is like containers used to until thursdays patch. If you had a station container and placed that in a stack, on closing/reopening it would return to its proper position/stack. Any new containers would then be default location in centre of screen be they bought station containers or wrecks in space.
I joined the recruitment channel and that opened in my chat stack because ive dragged it there in the past, then i opened the german language recruitment channel and that opened in bottom left of the screen because ive never opened or stacked it before, so it was in default position.
Since private chat (right click, start conversation) seem to all be new windows and not a recurrence of any old chat, every single one starts default position.
Another quick example is, if you are part of a 3 person+ chat, log from eve, come back later and are invited back to the same chat instance, it will be in the correct place where it was dragged to previously and not in default position.
What you did with container windows in thursdays patch, on face value :p, is all that needs to be done with the chat windows.

Now make with the refuncing!

It seems like many old timers have actually quit eve because of the problems that 1.1 tyranis has introduced. 1.2 has fixed a few things, but for the most part, most people would PREFER to roll back to pre 1.1
It is easily the worst snafu in eve history... it simply was not ready.
They forced a development api change, and did not finish it in time. They DID NOT DEBUG IT.
The beta testers reported all of these problems, but SOMEONE at ccp (sabotage?) decided to DUMP it on paying customers anyway.
SIMPLE FACT IS THIS:
* pre 1.1, eve client ran without crashing, without problems, 23/7
* 1.1 tyranis introduced about 50+ serious bugs, including client crashes, which makes trying to mission or pvp an excercise in futility
* 1.1 had 5 optional patches, all of which did not address the fundamental stability problems
* 1.2 + recent patch = more of the same, some good fixes, but really, all still just trying to clean up from the clusterfu[k which was 1.1 tyranis...
It's like CCP wants to pull a M$ VISTA 'upgrade' with 1.1 tyranis, and all of us DO NOT WANT IT with so many critical bugs. We will stick with XP thank you very much.
Did the 1.1 tyranis release manager get fired at least?

I would recommend you try again, since there aren't multiple reports of such an issue then it's most likely some one-off glitch.

I'm pretty sure this is not how they're supposed to behave, I tested this quickly today and saw the private conversation open in the chat stack. But I'll investigate and see if we can figure out what makes this happen.

I admit the changes they are trying to do are great for long term eve.
Can we PLEEEASE have pre 1.1 tyranis until they actually fix it?
I wish you commented on one of my points, but I guess silence is also saying something. |

Ah... I think I see what's happening there, the chat windows are opening in the default chat stack in the left lower corner. I'm guessing if you opened two private chats in a row, they would be stacked in that window. I'll see if we can't improve on this behavior.

Edited by: Jack Gilligan on 16/11/2010 23:27:46 Edited by: Jack Gilligan on 16/11/2010 23:26:55 Is it too much to ask that our $15/month go towards hiring professional programmers, Devs, and Q/A testers?
This endless stacking of patches upon patches to fix things that haven't been fixed by any of them on top of two minor game releases (1.1 and 1.2) should shame those responsible if they bother to pick up their paychecks for this sort of pitiful, amateur hour effort on Friday.
If this is the best you can put out, CCP, you had not only better delay this winter's (very thin and lacking) expansion but you better CANCEL it. And forget about DUST or Incarna, if you can't pull off a TINY little UI update like 1.1 and 1.2 nor fix it in the now nearly dozen interim patches between them you have a better chance of inventing perpetual motion and cold nuclear fusion than pulling off DUST or Incarna to any degree.
This is beyond frustrating.
If this is excellence, what would you all consider to be mediocrity?
And where the hell is our "vaunted" CSM? They should be screaming FOR HEADS by now!

Improve? Have you ever played eve before FAILranis 1.1? There is nothing to improve, only fix to the way its supposed to work and how it worked before FAILranis 1.1
There was NEVER a "default chat stack" before FAILranis. All Private convos opened in the position of the last closed private convo. Position was global for every single private convo EVER in game client. FAILranis introduced unique "position ID" for every single new instance of private chat/container/wreck - that broke default pre FAILranis behavior. Pre FAILranis EVERY SINGLE wreck shared same "position ID". Every single Container of same type shared one "position ID". Opening one new "Large standard container" and positioning it somewhere made ALL subsequent "Large standard containers" default to that position because they all shared the same "position ID". After FAILranis they all have unique "position ID", that "position ID" is reset to middle of the screen every time you repackage a container/start new private convo.
All it takes is to remember how it worked before FAILranis and reproduce same functionality, is it too much to ask?

Chat window locations were slightly broken pre tyranis. They WOULD stack where you left them as long as the stack was UNPINNED. If you last closed a private chat window from a PINNED stack any subsequent private chat would be dislodged from that stack and open in a default position or directly over the pinned stack but not stacked in it.
Im hoping they can make it so that i can pin corp chat and have private chat windows open there. That would be a slight, albeit belated improvement on pre tyranis.

My (probably wrong) understanding of "pinned" is that anything pinned is saint and cant be changed no matter what until you unpin it, so game simply couldnt add new windows to a pinned stack as pinned = locked?

Well, apart from information windows and local which i dont stack, all my windows fall into 6 stacks which are all pinned apart from corp/chat stack.
Corp chat is not pinned because i have to drag every new private chat there.
Pre tyranis my corp chat wasnt pinned because pinning had the effect of making new private conversations not open in the stack, though pinning (apart from all the recent UI issues) has never had any other effect on stacks afaik.
...Apart from preventing you from making a stack in the first place which is probably what you mean. When i talk about stacks im talking about windows that have already been stacked but forget this and open in a default position regardless of pinning.

All pinning ever did for me was make windows very transparent so im not using it.
btw This hotfix silently fixed typing while jumping - you dont lose focus while jumping anymore yay. Again - Would be nice to READ about changes like that in patch notes to particular hotfixes.

I am having this same issue when i open any new channel or convo it gets launched on the bottom left corner of my screen but does not stack with all my other windows there
Also the can issue that was solved in the previous patch "Not stacking loot or minning cans" is back for me

How many people are getting random eve client crashes still?
Please, if you sit in a station all day to chat, do not reply.
For the rest of the active players, who fight in space regularily, how often has the client crashed for you?
I noticed that 1.2 has reduced the amount of crashing, but it is still not 100% crash free like pre-1.1 tyranis was(is). |
