I am looking for a ship that is viable for roaming solo in low-sec and that can realistically take on a single battlecruiser under gateguns.
I tried a Cynabal but I never seem to meet cruiser or bc-sized ships outside of gate or station grids and gateguns hurt too much for me to engage a bc confidently at a gate.
I gave podla/nano Drakes some thought but they seem to be very slow and have low-ish damage output.
A battleship would require me to use a scouting alt so I don't die to random gatecamps which is not really something I want to do (multiboxing is :effort: with only one screen).
What ships would be able to fill that role? I suspect that some field command ships and maybe heavy dictors might work. Are there any dark horses that I should know about? (e.g. for solo pvp in 0.0, dual-ASB Cyclones are amazing atm and get constantly underestimated) I'm a NPC corp alt, any argument I make is invalid. |

They were. Now nobody will try to engage a Cyclone in null. They are either a bait or an OP shield tanker.
Most Cyclones i have seen in 0.0 stay close to any gate waiting for any unexpecting soloer to try and engage. In case they are losing (if your friends just show up) they stop firing, wait agro timer and jump out.
Last time we tried to take one down with two HAM drakes and two hurries. He just laughed at us, and jumped out when agro finished. And still he could leave one of the drakes in hull.
Also, my Hawk tanked four other hawks for a while, while my friends were taking them down.
ASB are pretty damm good :D

I'd say T1 cruisers can do that job.
Rupture, Thrasher & Moa. Decent DPS and tank and enough speed to fly back to gate when you jump into a camp.
Look for Aldaps video's in the My EVE section of the forum for his video's. He uses a Rupute with good effect in low sec.
i am trying an arbitrator myself but I can't recommend that :D.

I'm not sure if there are any roaming sub-bs ships that can take down a competent Myrm under sentry aggro, but if there is, it's probably fitted with dual ASBs. Anyway there are easier targets to solo than the Myrm, which itself would work if the damn sentries wouldn't blap drones.
Besides the FOTM ASB fits, a Proteus or maybe an Astarte could do what you are asking due to insane buffer and nice dps... and have the added bonus of attracting even more targets :P
I ganked a PVE Sleip in an all-out Brutix under station sentries, but pretty unlikely that it would work again.

Maybe one of the Tech-3's - I've been on the wrong side of a Proteus on a roam, and it was not a pleasant experience.
Word of warning, though: if you're in FW lo-sec, battlecruisers will generally be flown by people with specific objectives in mind, not seeking out random fights - the whole nature of faction warfare is skewed more towards the light stuff. And if you aggress one BC against a gate, it's not just the gate guns you've got to watch out for; don't be surprised if all of a sudden you get a half-dozen light ships slamming into you. A lot of FW fighters live by the concept that the only "fair fight" is one in which one side or the other has screwed up; fair is fair and war is war, and the two are not exactly boon companions... |

Armor tanked dual-prop SFIs. They're cheap, flexible, and have a ton of GTFO ability (plus dat scram and web makes nano-pilots cry when they realize you're not a wannabe cynabal.) |

Nano-tempest? Single ASB fits are nice these days, has the agility to roam like a BC and the gank to burn down BC's on gate, plus the nuets are nice for GTFO. Though if you're finding solo BC's that are willing to engage on gate, they're looking for pew and sitting in belts in something smaller and waiting for them to come to you works pretty often too. |

Gatecamps are what you should be looking for! As long as you can deal with the ECM, you will probably be able to kill a whole bunch before going down. |

If you have t2 guns so you dont get outranged.....
Dual ASB with cap boosters and crystels+implants will make the gatecamp unable to kill it. |

This is very true. Not just FW LS but any for that matter. Eve for the most part is not about "fair" fights. People are about blowing others up and that is the reality of it. Learn to be cautious and look for signs of an ambush. (Drake alone on gate.... yea that's bait). Understand that if you get ganked it's ok and you will learn to adapt if you pay attention.
As far as tanking gate guns... I personally recommend not taking gate guns when solo. Let them attack you and take GCC. Make each fight happen on your terms, if you pick a tough ship to kill solo then you will most likely not get people to attack you on a gate. However if you are in a ship that looks kill-able then people will be more likely to either engage you or at least not run from you. As said before Aldap's vids are great to watch and learn this style from as the anxiousness of players will often times cause them to take risks to get a KM. Exploit that.
There is no "best" ship in eve, you will see people in awesome ships get owned by T1 stuff if flown correctly. Imo it's more about finding a ship and fit that you are skilled at and playing to the strengths it has while exploiting the weaknesses of your targets. Ideally though as others have said any ship with good speed is preferable to get out of situations when you are solo. Ships like the Curse and Cynabal have the speed and in the Curse's case, utility to handle many situations. T1 ships like the Rupture and Arbitrator are also flexible with the fits your can use. Anything bigger than a BC can easily get nabbed on a gate so stick to smaller/cheaper hulls while you are learning. Be careful, learn from others in your corp if they have experience and just have fun no matter what you fly.
Hope that helps, Mike

But , Podla nano drake (works fine for me atleast) Armor cane Dual ASB Sleipnir/Buffer sleipnir 800mm AC nado (gonna get trolled by alliance members for this one...) Nano talos should blap anything before you diaf. ASB Ferox. Dual rep hyperion Maelstrom ASB Tempest 100mn tengu Fat tanked proteus
Granted , half of these ships require "Flying skills" which most of eve doesn't have anymore =/ --------------------------------------He who dares , wins. |

Battlecruisers tier 2 are very strong (tier 3 are strong but not under sentry guns) Battlecruisers tier 1 are also good, however not compared to tier 2.
Have you considered lowering your expectations? Take a cruiser or assault ship out and look for smaller targets... Rupture, Thorrax, Vexor are all good ships and Maybe a Moa is usefull if done correctly... |

My thoughts is you need to attract an attack but repel with some sort of wildcard to win, you solo pvp your not going to have falcon, but they will so asb's is great but you'l find that's a very counter-productive picture.. sitting acting like live bait in the face of a ewar ship.
Great solution asb's for a short measure.
So eccm is a must, plenty of tank to take off the edge of sentry gun's you might need a large armour repairer.
The only past experience I have had is with typhoon, moving quickly through low security attracts attention with a global timer you can target thing's like industrials or maybe even a caracal.. mining barges (i got a 100m bounty from this once).
Keep out of the way of an equal this is never a duel to the death but a bait ship looking to knock you 2 for 6 with an alt or another player, so de-agress instantly and gate crash.
Boosters are a immeasurably good when used in conjunction with a theme.. exile for missile armor tankers local repairing ships such as sacrilege or Zealot or x-instinct for sig tanking ships like a Stabber fleet issue etc.
When engaging first time you have two choices whether to run or fight.. your asking the question therefore it's doubt and always choose to disengage probebly the best.
So if your in a gang what then? attack attack attack make the most of the game it's fun.. solo? move fast and you can almost guarantee in the probability stakes that your ahead of the people hunting for you, which they are and that you have more time to take out a target.
