First off, I'm one of those "return for five days free" players, so sorry if this has been mentioned before but...
Rigging my ship for exploration and entering a wormhole to the great unknown that lies beyond, I'm filled with a sense of wonder and excitement. These feelings are quickly dashed when I notice than every planet in this "newly discovered" system has a customs office for the new plaetary interaction feature. "Okay," I say "maybe it's like POSs and Corps have come in and built them to take advantage of these resource rich worlds."
Nope.
They apparently just appeared when the feature was deployed. The system I'm in has nine "unknown" planets that have already been found and had customs and tax applied to them? So much for discovering the undiscovered. And wouldn't it make more sense for large Corps or Alliances to have to build these stations, like moon mining, to exploit the dense resources of these planets rather than just handing it to them?
Where is the EVE I left that involved huge amounts of logistics and planning, that if you had less than ten people to a Corp you simply didn't have the man power to play with the big boys?

I've just realised that this is a massive whine/rant. So can I suggest a new forum channel to CCP?
"EVE Soapbox"
I'd fit right in there

All the wormholes were discovered and exploited long ago, there is nothing new to find.

Maybe, but the infrastructure simply isn't there to build a station for every planets. in every system of wormhole space overnight. As far as I know Concord still haven't gotten around to rebuilding their headquarters in Yulai but somehow built all these customs offices?

wormhole space has alot of unknown and undiscovered technologys and potential story arcs, perhaps you simply have not found the reason concord has managed to put a customs office on every planet.

Wrong, the customs offices are built by the first person who installs a launchpad on the planet.

So how does moving into and living in a WH, not involve huge amounts of logistics and planning ? It takes alot of this just to get your stuff in and out of one, let alone anything else, its not just fly to a WH entrance and your in everyime. At least learn something about what your moaning about before you post rubbish.

"Wrong," huh.
Funny, I don't remember carrying a space station fifty times the size of my ship along with the command centre, nor seeing it being "built" with my launchpad on an undeveloped planet. I did however see nine already there, in system, that taxes me to export/import goods. Are you saying that whoever gets the launchpad down first owns the customs office and therefore pays no tax and gets tax from everyone that uses it, taxes themselves or went into wormhole space put command centres on every planet in this system, then removed them after the station was build? Because none of the planets have command centres or launchpads now.
And don't say the Sleepers put them there for god's sake, they're the same customes offices as New Eden. I'd think the Sleeper ones would look different if they had them at all.
Which all leads back to the point of the post. It breaks immersion. Which I know some (or most) people don't care about. But damn it, I DO!

If it helps with emersion then let it be known that undiscovered planets may also support inhabitants already, that may export stuff from the planets.

At least understand the meaning of the post you are about to bash. It's about immersion, not your boo-hoo whiney tears about the difficulty of you and your mates living in wormhole space. Which isn't that difficult if you've got a cargohold full of command centres and an easy means to get the items you need to run a POS from planets that conveniently have space stations in orbit.
But fine, continue to focus on the last line of my posts and ignore the rest. in that case...
You're a ****!

The customs office are created when someone builds a launchpad. The launchpads have been uplifted and aren't there anymore (person probably doesn't have access to the wh anymore or found somewhere better) but the customs office (which they don't actually own, they just cause it to come into being as the first launchpad) remains. It doesn't actually serve any purpose however so you would think ccp would remove them when all launchpads were removed.

Planets that never had any PI activity have no customs office. Also the "people on the planet" is providing the custom office building materials just as they provide the materials used for everything else you build in PI (except the command centres).
The tax you pay for import/export is for the planets population, not you, even if it is your fault a customs office all of a sudden is in orbit.
Yes it is quite likely someone did play with PI there and then moved on leaving all the custom offices behind.

Nice, I focused on that one sentence as that was the one which showed us you dont know what you are talking about. You cant run a pos just from a planet and they are nothing like space stations. FOBTW |

This has convinced me to attempt a grand expedition into the bowels of wormholedom. With only my covops frig and two slaver hounds as companions, I will go from wormhole to wormhole attempting to find a pristine system without customs offices.
I will write blogs about what I find, thus drawing attention to myself and my mission as a brave explorer and gutsy pseudo-hero who transcends the game of Eve itself.
Once completed (if ever) I will use my notoriety as an intrepid explorer to politely remind other players of my exploits and thus bask in their respect and adoration.
By doing all this I will validate my existence and become less insecure. My fragile ego will no longer be fragile, as I have actually done something with my pathetic life that in some small way gives it meaning.
I thank the OP for sparking this idea, and will be eternally grateful.
EVERYONE SEEMS NORMAL UNTIL YOU GET TO KNOW THEM. |
