CCP
Quote: We've primarily been working on the tools and the design of the Epic Mission System. I think CCP Molock used this metaphor before, but I'll use it here: It's like working on a car's engine, transmission, and chassis while you're racing it. For that reason, we only focused on one arc in order for us to hammer out all of the kinks in the system. In essence, the main feature we have been working on is the tools to create these arcs. In that sense, it will be done and ready for Apocrypha. But if you're talking about adding Epic Arcs into EVE as the feature, well, that 'll never be done because we'll keep pumping Epic Arcs out for forseeable future.
So Epic arcs are kinda cool. I really like the stories they tell and can be really well... epic :P
However, I haven't been around for over a year, and from what I can find, there are only 6 epic mission arcs in the game now?
The noob one One for each empire Pirate speed epic mission
I thought it was faster to add more of these to the game now? But to be honest The real reason I'm posting here to ask those of you that have been around for the past year or so a simple question. Do any of these epic mission arcs have multiple endings? I remember fanfest 2008 when they showed this awesome picture of the vision for epic arcs, with 4 to 5 endings.
While it's not a big deal I hope these epic mission arcs haven't been forgotten about. I remember one of the big things was they could be rolled out in between expansions. So I hope that maybe some of these new epic arcs have multiple endings? And I hope they haven't given up on them because they are awesome and have a fancy UI in the journal : )
Oh one last thing... how do I find the new epic arcs? I mean besides the noob one? And don't send to some website, I'm asking how to I find them using in game means only.

eh, allright fine.
I just wish eve had a way of telling it's players abuot the awesome stuff in the game.
I'm worryed that walking in stations is going to be a button on the left hand side, and thus like 30% of player will just click it on actident and be like "omg you can get out of your ship!"
another example is grouping your weapons, there is just no way for a new player to know you hold shift and drag :P
and what about PI? When you warp to a planet it's no obvious you can right click it to get into view planet mode. I mean if you click hold it's not their, and if you click on it's not in the top over the overview.
I think some sort of master agent is needed in eve. Who biscly is like your personal AI adviser, and will send you around based on what you tell it you need.
but yeah thanks for the list,
maybe that page should be linked in-game somewhere in the tutorial?

Edited by: Jowen Datloran on 12/11/2010 10:51:40 It is the lack of official documentation that makes EVE great for explores like me.
Oh, and I should have pretty much everything covered regarding epic arc missions here.

that's a fair point. :P
maybe in walking stations you could open an eve lore store where you help people find the parts of eve they never knew existed!

I agree that the game is a bit rubbish at pointing you towards the epic arc agents and explaining the prerequisites. Maybe you should get sent a notification when you reach the required standing, like when you get a new storyline mission? And I only found out quite recently ago that you can repeat the epic arcs every 90 days. It was months before I found out about COSMOS missions. And the starter agent for the Gallente epic arc gives no clue as to what he's for, is for an obscure corp that you're unlikely to be interested in otherwise, and doesn't even tell you how much standing is required to talk to him. For such a great PvE feature, CCP do work awfully hard to keep them secret.

When I decided to try epic arcs to see what they were like, it took me idk less than 5 minutes anyway with google and eve-search to research it. The EVE player-base is generally very resourceful and there are some quite good guides out there if you take the time to look. Personally, I prefer to find information than have it spoon-fed to me, and I think finding new little pieces of information when you didn't expect to is always a pleasant surprise.
It's not really that hard. However maybe if you are lazy and from a culture where advertising and patronising advice, such as instructions on how to open a carton of milk, is constantly thrown at you from every direction you can get used to not needing to think for yourself. *shrugs* |

We certainly haven't forgotten about epic arcs, and we in Content really do want to do more of them. Thing is, we are a small department, and we're the only folks who handle content for the whole game, so whenever there are features like Incursion coming up, we're the ones who have to develop it. We have several more arcs written and ready to go into the dev pipeline, but we just don't have traction on making more epic arcs atm. We have old content renovations on the horizon, plus work on Incarna coming up, etc., so the short answer is, unfortunately - we'll get to them eventually. :(
Sorry if that's not the answer you want to hear, but it is an honest one. Hope that counts for something?

Why do you only have a small department for content in a massiv game like this?

Actually the part I bolded is not entirely accurately. If you click on a planet, the item area of the Overview has a button that will let you enter planet mode (I believe it looks like an up arrow inside a circle). --Vel

it means everything CCP Molock : )
I'm sure the missions/goals in the incursions will be epic in their own right : )
However it does bring up a bigger point, maybe the content team should be expanded! more stories for all! But seriously thank you for replying, it's great to know whats going on internally at CP, any frustration by normal players usually comes from just not knowing whats going on behind the gates of CCP.
I wonder if the content team ever hire artists... hmmm.

There are no derived standings gains or hits for finishing an epic arc. You get only positive standing towards your chosen faction.
