A subject close to my heart right now is the current implant prices. Mainly because I would like to venture into 0.0, but don't fancy risking what is currently about 600 million isk worth of implants in my head which I can't insure / can't unplug / etc.
So here's a suggestion:
Make it so that you can unplug implants, at a medical station, for a fee (say 5 million isk as an example), and the implant that pops out goes down one level.
So a +3 implant because a +2, a +2 becomes a +1, and a +1 is destroyed. I think this is a good enough penalty without risking everything, and allow players like me who have been around a while the peace of mind to go to the outer regions.
What do others think?

I think that implants are a luxury item and that the decision to plug them in is a sign of acceptance that you might lose them when podded.
I also think that 600 million isks is way too much to pay for implants and I don't believe you payed that much for them.

I didn't, I bought them at a time when they were much cheaper, and could afford to lose them.
But if I were to buy them all again, that's (roughly) how much it would cost. That's unacceptable losses in my view, and in the absence of any other ideas on the subject, the one outlined above is mine.
Oveur said a month ago that with the last patch, fixes had been put in to lower the implant prices, including the dropping of +4 implants. I have yet to see any effect of this.

Wouldn't you say that reducing implants to commodities rather then luxury items is far less desirable then fixing the drop rate?

I agree that the current implant prices are WAY to high, but compared to the amount of time you have to invest now to get enough loyality points, they seem about right.
Based on the former prices of the implants, i could have afforded to loose my full set, but now it would take a lot of efford to replace them all, which somewhat taints my pvp style...i just donŠt risk as much as before, but thats a common handicap if you use implants in 0.0
Nevertheless i disagree, you shouldnt be able to unplug an implant; however your solution sounds like a good approach to some sort of compromise.

plugging in an implant shouldnt be so final!!
Junipers idea would mean more population in 0.0 (as intended) and would free so many trapped people in empire.
The compromise is a good one

i cant see a real benefit.
when u unplug them and get +2 implants instead of +3 implants, what the aim here ?
at the current situation u will loose a huge bunch of money too for decreasing your implants. what will u get for +2 imps currently and after the next patch ? i think currently for +2 imps instead of +3 imps u will loose something around 500m isk too. no big difference so.
the devs told in a dev chat that the implant rate get increased again and more and more people are currentliy learning how to get them from their agents. luxus should be luxus and penaltied as luxus.

I don't know... I can't afford to replace my implants, yet I PvP constantly. And fly the most fragile ships. And I don't have the patience to even think about gathering money to replace the implants.
The secret: I see to it I am really good at not loosing my pod.
Better see to it there's an active market for implants than to let people safe keep them. --

Whatever "luxus" is I'm not sure, but the main benefit is not really financial, it's more a point that you can then re-plug those (lesser) implants in when you're finished doing the rounds in 0.0. So I have a choice again.
I hate that I have made this "choice" some months ago, and cannot change it without ending myself... or somehow not getting my pod warp scrambled when I hit a gate camp of four Ravens...
