I really shouldn't be asking this at 1AM as it should be be easier to work out in the morning but how does one set up a spreadsheet to get item prices from eve-central or another location? I have my own spreadsheet for manufacturing that is fairly basic and suits my needs its just tedious to manual fill in the prices.

Ruby script which uses the eve metrics interface and downloads the information for a list of item id's and region id's I hard code into it. It spits out a csv file which I then open up in open office or excel and copy/paste that into my spreadsheet whenever I want to update.
Ruby, Python, Perl, VB, whatever. Scripting languages are very useful!

XML is probably easier...
Get the link of the item you want (Eve Metrics) For example, Trit from Sinq Liason region: http://eve-metrics.com/api/item.xml?type_ids=34®ion_ids=10000032
So, when you select 'Data' menu -> 'XML' -> 'XML Source' that will bring a window on the side.
Click on 'XML Map' button near the bottom of that window. Copy the link above and paste it into the open file dialog. Excel will then grab the trit data for the region of sinq liason. Be sure to rename it to "Trit" or something so that you can distinguish between the different xml maps. That's it.
However, one downside to this is having to do it manually for every item. So, macro is useful in this case.

Spreadsheets at 0100 isn't much better than pvp/pve after 24 hour Eve marathon.
I can't offer advice to the latter, but with spreadsheets, check out my Eve Industrial Organiser Eve Central price sheet and link the relevant cells from your workbook to that one and...'Refresh All' on the data connections and voila - updated median prices.
Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

I had forgotten about your spreadsheet Sidrat, although I did format mine of a version of yours make when CCP made those changes to T2 components. So is there an instruction manual on how to use EIO?

Not yet no. SORRY.
Been manic at my end so haven't done much, let alone look at it for the last couple of weeks, it's good that it's still getting the downloads though as I still check my thread which is usually page 3+ still....
You want an instruction manual, you'll get one Soon (tm). I really wish I could write a deadline and stick with it but that wouldn't be fair to myself or you.
I'm going to be doing some hard drive maintenance cleaning out the old files and removing links and stuff that has filled up the last year or so and hopefully then I'll be able to get down to work on improving the suite and writing up a practical and methodical work flow tutorial.
For an author I have forgotten a lot about what it can and can't do, I think that's one of the downsides to having it split over multiple workbooks but don't worry that's not going to change, cardinal rule is to keep them all in the same directory though.
Pestering me in game and bumping the EIO thread may produce results faster. ISK Donations would be a positive influence as well.
Not begging, just painting the reality as I see it.

Would you happen to know how to do this in open office? It seems that either APIs and calling websites and what not were not around back when I did Excel training (2003-4) or I have forgotten more than I remembered.
Also it seems that the popular manufacturing spreadsheets keep freezing up on me. :(
